Chapter 104 - A Shocked Coulson

Hawkeye landed from a backflip, half-kneeling, his eyes fixed on the Batman before him—and the man in the green suit, bow in hand, who had just stepped out from behind him.

There was something familiar about this man's aura.

"…Your opponent is me!"

The man in green stated calmly, stepping forward past Batman, his gaze cold and unwavering on Hawkeye.

"Who is he?"

Behind Hawkeye, Natasha and Coulson exchanged a glance, both clearly surprised.

"Who are you?"

Hawkeye's voice was cool, his tone measured.

"Green Arrow," the man replied evenly.

"Wait… this guy looks familiar!"

Natasha, having worked in the DC company for some time, immediately connected the green-suited, bow-wielding figure to a new virtual superhero recently pushed by the company.

"Green Arrow!"

Hearing the reply, Natasha's eyes widened in shock. "He is Green Arrow!"

"Green Arrow?"

Coulson didn't keep up with comics or novels for entertainment; he had no familiarity with the name.

"Who exactly is Green Arrow?" he asked.

"Oliver Queen," Natasha explained, regaining composure. "In the story, he's a wealthy young man who's stranded on a deserted island, learns incredible skills, and returns home to fight crime as a superhero. You could think of him as a low-tier Batman."

"Sounds somewhat similar."

Coulson recalled watching The Dark Knight Rises to better understand Batman, so he now had a slight understanding of this sudden Green Arrow.

"So… it's not just Batman, even Green Arrow isn't a fictional character?"

Coulson was astonished, eyebrows furrowed. "Who is his real identity? Batman is one, Green Arrow is one… DC seems to hide many secrets. What exactly is Anton up to?"

He muttered under his breath, face serious.

He had thought Anton, while mysterious, had already revealed part of himself. Now, however, it seemed Anton was hiding even deeper. Perhaps what they'd seen was just a nose hair Anton intentionally exposed.

Coulson even began to suspect: Could Anton be Batman?

Indeed, as Anton had anticipated, S.H.I.E.L.D. had, over time, almost confirmed that Batman's identity might be Anton, even without definitive proof. But just as they were about to act, another virtual superhero appeared—Green Arrow.

These people seemed to think this was all a game of roleplay.

The more you know, the more chaotic it gets.

Coulson resolved: after today, he would investigate Anton's DC company in detail.

"Green Arrow?"

Hawkeye ignored the chatter behind him, focusing entirely on the man before him.

His muscles tensed. Green Arrow's presence pressed down on him in a way that was entirely different from Batman.

Batman was a different class of person. Green Arrow, however… felt like a peer.

Among peers, only the strongest comparisons matter.

The tension in the air was palpable, a hint of gunpowder lingering. Their eyes met, sparking as if electricity crackled between them, a fight imminent.

Hawkeye pulled an arrow from his back, taking a battle stance.

"Leave the battlefield to them," Batman said, seemingly unfazed, ignoring the tension entirely.

He walked toward Coulson and Natasha, avoiding eye contact with Hawkeye.

"We need to have a proper discussion, Coulson," Batman said.

Anton's gaze lingered on Natasha for a moment before settling on Coulson.

"Please, come in."

Coulson opened the door, welcoming Batman inside. Natasha glanced at Hawkeye but showed no worry, following them into the house.

Hawkeye and Green Arrow's duel was inevitable. The frustration Hawkeye felt toward Batman—and Batman's dismissive attitude—could only be vented on Green Arrow.

I can't beat Batman… but I can beat you.

Hawkeye was unwilling to admit it, but the gap between him and Batman was undeniable.

Just as he prepared to test himself against Batman again, Green Arrow stepped forward, intercepting him. He looked like a subordinate obeying Batman's orders.

A subordinate can't be stronger than Batman. If I can't beat you, I might as well go home and babysit.

Hawkeye adjusted his thoughts and drew another arrow from his quiver, aiming at Green Arrow.

Simultaneously, Green Arrow did the same.

Swish!

Both arrows shot at the same instant, whistling through the air.

Yet, neither flinched. They approached each other, stepping forward as arrows passed, heads tilting to dodge, drawing new arrows from their quivers in perfect sync, aiming and firing again.

Swish, swish, swish, swish!

Arrows whizzed past their ears, yet neither backed down. Eventually, the duel reached a point where their faces were nearly touching.

Bang!

They stopped shooting and engaged in close combat.

Meanwhile, inside the house, Batman, Coulson, and Natasha began their conversation in the living room.

"I'll be direct," Anton said firmly. "I'm not interested in your S.H.I.E.L.D. plans. Whatever you intend, you don't need to count me in."

"Technically, you can refer to us by our abbreviation, S.H.I.E.L.D.," Coulson replied with a smile. "Our director is planning to assemble a superhero team, and we'd like you to lead it. Regardless of your stance, we hope you'll consider it."

"A superhero team?"

Anton remained calm, revealing a major secret.

"I've already joined another team. Current circumstances prevent me from joining any other superhero team."

"What?!"

Coulson was stunned, unable to contain his shock. "When did this happen?"

"Not long ago," Anton replied evenly.

"Can you disclose anything?" Coulson asked hesitantly. "For example, the purpose of your superhero team?"

"Our purposes align—to deal with necessary crises," Anton said lightly. "Just as you worry… about threats from outer space, extraterrestrial dangers."

His words had barely finished when Coulson's pupils contracted in shock, staring at Batman in disbelief.

He had only heard of these events from Nick Fury—a massive crisis in the 1990s, classified as top secret by S.H.I.E.L.D., with only a handful of agents authorized to access the files.

Clearly, as a partial participant in that incident, Coulson knew much of the truth.

Moreover, there seemed to be an understanding between the current director and the mysterious superhero who resolved the crisis—Batman. Coulson fully realized this now.

Yet he never imagined that Batman himself would know about it.

Impossible!

This was top-secret information. Only a few in S.H.I.E.L.D. could speak of it. Perhaps fewer than a handful truly understood.

Who exactly is Batman? Where does he get his information?
