"Otto!"
Dr. Octopus's wife, Rose, couldn't hold back her tears when she saw Otto being subdued.
She was brought by the tardy police to the area near the patrol car. Hearing Tony's explanation, she finally understood what had happened.
She felt both relieved and sorrowful.
Relieved that Otto's violent attack was caused by his mechanical implants controlling his mind, but also saddened because this incident had destroyed not only his reputation and landed him in legal trouble, but also ruined the career he loved most.
Whoosh!Cyborg carried Otto — unconscious after the strain of violently removing the inhibitory chip from his brain — toward the gathering of police officers.
"Cyborg!"
George, looking at Cyborg, was momentarily at a loss for words. Just a few days ago, he had gone to watch the Cyborg movie with his family.
"…Thanks to you this time!"
After a few seconds of silence, he finally managed to say the words.
"He's in your hands now."
Cyborg handed Otto over to George and the others, then glanced toward Green Arrow under the Manhattan Bridge.
Whoosh! To everyone's disbelief, Green Arrow bent his bow and shot an arrow at Cyborg. Cyborg remained motionless, hovering about two or three meters above the ground, watching the arrow whiz toward him.
Just as everyone thought a fight was about to break out between the two heroes, Cyborg casually caught the arrow, then without pause, ascended into the sky holding it.
Boom!Jets from his feet expelled massive air currents, propelling him skyward at an incredible speed, becoming a tiny black dot against the blue sky.
Green Arrow followed, drawn along by the same arrow!
Everyone then realized: a nearly invisible steel wire was attached to the arrow, allowing Green Arrow to fly after Cyborg toward the sky.
"Call the salvage team!"
George watched Cyborg and Green Arrow disappear and instructed nearby officers:"That mechanical arm that fell into the Hudson is important. Don't let anyone get it before we secure it in the precinct's storage."
"Understood!"
An officer nodded, but after a few steps, paused and looked at George.
"What is it?" George frowned.
"I was just thinking…"
The officer hesitated, glancing at the four turtles nearby — bored and frustrated, having missed their first real mission because Cyborg and Green Arrow swooped in.
"They're turtles… they can swim… right?"
George suddenly understood and looked at the turtles.
The four turtles exchanged glances.
Their first big mission had failed. They hadn't recovered anything, and now they had to dive into the river to retrieve the villain's weapon…
Such a dismal outcome!
Yet without complaint, they immediately took action to replace the salvage team and recover the mechanical arm from the Hudson River.
The most enthusiastic and eager was Donatello.
As a tech geek, he had a deep fascination with Dr. Otto's mechanical arm.
...
Meanwhile, the reporters, having witnessed the Bat-like arrival and departure of Cyborg and Green Arrow, reluctantly said their goodbyes.
They rushed to finish their articles before competitors, aiming to break the news quickly.
This was unquestionably headline-grabbing news for New York — and even the world.
Those left behind, whose cameras were damaged or sucked away by the magnetic field, quickly redirected their attention to Anton, who had come for the public experiment.
Anton, after all, was the head of DC Comics.
His DC company had long published works about "Cyborg" and "Green Arrow." Thus, everyone already had a foundational understanding of these superheroes when they suddenly appeared.
Moreover, Anton himself was the director of the Cyborg film.
One could argue that Anton's value in this event was second only to Cyborg, Green Arrow, and Otto.
However, when journalists attempted to interview Anton, a few police officers instructed by someone intercepted them. They could only watch helplessly as Anton chatted with a red-haired woman, unable to approach.
...
Near the patrol car:
Tony noticed that from arrival to departure, Cyborg and Green Arrow never interacted with Anton, not even a glance.
Yet Tony was certain:
These three definitely knew each other!
Tony dismissed the thought momentarily. After all, Anton directed Batman and Cyborg and his company had Green Arrow as a character. It wasn't impossible.
What Tony focused on was a dangerous impression he got when Cyborg approached the patrol car.
Cyborg's specialized equipment was terrifying.
It reminded him of Cyborg's movie design.
He frowned instinctively.
Could alien technology actually exist?Though humanity hadn't found extraterrestrial life, Tony firmly believed intelligent beings existed elsewhere in the universe.
And their attitude toward Earth might not be benevolent.
If there were an alien like Darkseid eyeing Earth, as in the movies, humanity would be in grave danger.
Lost in thought, Tony's brow furrowed.
He looked at Anton, casually chatting with a red-haired woman, feeling helpless.
Tony couldn't fathom how someone like Anton could be so closely connected to Batman, Cyborg, and Green Arrow — three superheroes. It was unbelievable.
...
"Anton, we need to talk."
Natasha's gaze fixed on the smiling man in front of her. Despite two weeks of contact, she felt like she was facing a fog, understanding nothing.
"Sure."
Anton didn't hesitate. He nodded, smiling: "I've been waiting for you to say that, Natasha."
"You really know everything!"
Natasha's face remained expressionless.
"Since you know my connection to Batman, how could you not realize that I also know what Batman knows?"
Anton shrugged: "Perhaps I know more than Batman about what he doesn't know."
Natasha frowned, sensing Anton's implication but unable to decipher its meaning.
Soon, Coulson met with Anton.
"Anton, I'll be direct."
His expression serious: "Cyborg… what's the story? He's like Green Arrow — part of your people?"
"Batman should have told you. He formed a superhero team."
Anton paused, then continued: "I think you probably know its name, right?"
"The Justice League!" Coulson answered.
"Exactly."
Anton nodded: "Cyborg is a member of the Justice League, and one of its founders."
"What about DC Comics?"
Coulson asked further: "Currently, all DC publications — Superman, Flash, Aquaman, Wonder Woman — are they also members of the Justice League? And DC is preparing three films, besides Cyborg, there's Batman: The Dark Knight, and a new Superman film?"
He paused: "Don't tell me the next superhero from DC will be Superman!"
He could hardly believe it.
On one hand, the film settings: Cyborg was a partially mechanical human using alien technology. Superman, on the other hand, is fully extraterrestrial.
Coulson, having studied DC, doubted the reality of these characters.
Yet one thought lingered in his mind: What if it's true?
If these characters truly are Justice League members, the organization would surpass national military power.
If so, why had it only just appeared?
And why had S.H.I.E.L.D. never heard of them before?
It was a mystery.
"I cannot answer your questions about this."
Anton shrugged casually: "Coulson, time will tell. Many things, only time will provide answers."
Coulson frowned.
Was Anton implying that the truth would reveal itself later?
Besides the Justice League, Coulson had identified others: Venom, Spider-Man, the Ninja Turtles, and possibly Daredevil, who hadn't been seen in a long time.
These individuals already formed a considerable force.
Now, with Green Arrow and Cyborg appearing…
"Alright."
Coulson didn't press Anton further.
S.H.I.E.L.D. knew Anton was either Batman or closely connected to him, and likely a confirmed member of the Justice League, in contact with all its members.
He reluctantly said: "I'll report this to the higher-ups. Anton, others will come looking for you."
After saying this, Coulson realized he wouldn't get any useful information and politely left.
"Come looking for me?"
Anton touched his chin, surprised.
"You didn't go after Batman, you came for me? Why? Is it because my identity is exposed, or because S.H.I.E.L.D. thinks I'm easy to handle?"
"Anton, looks like their agency has its eyes on you too!"
Suddenly, Tony's voice rang in his ear, gloating.
Tony had seen Coulson — that high-forehead man always left a strong impression.
"You're in the mood to mock me, Tony. Perhaps think about your own troubles first."
Anton smiled lightly, showing no anger, and left.
The Dr. Octopus incident was over. Staying at the scene was pointless. Better to return to the office and tally the gains.
[Arrest Dr. Octopus Otto – System Reward: 3,000,000 Justice Points][Current Justice Points Balance: 13,000,000]
Last time, the balance was 9,000,000 — how did it become 13,000,000?
Anton checked the details and realized the system had rewarded him 1,000,000 points after dealing with Bigfoot's gang, but he hadn't noticed.
Though small, every bit counts. Anton accepted it happily.
Meanwhile, behind him, someone was staring blankly.
"My own troubles?"
Tony watched Anton leave, his expression darkening.
He was sure Anton knew something! Considering Anton's connection to Batman, it made sense.
"Hmph!"
Tony snorted and, feeling frustrated, had Happy drive him away.
The reporters, having seen the most newsworthy pair of wealthy heirs slip away under their noses, could only sigh to the sky.
...
At the edge of the experiment table:
Seeing the aftermath, Obadei glared at the ruins, imagining the failed Otto, his anger nearly bursting through his chest.
"Useless!"
Obadei ground his teeth: "All useless!"
It wasn't about money — it was about the potential he had invested in Otto.
Yet Otto had backfired, giving him nothing, like fetching water with a bamboo basket.
Obadei could already imagine Stark Industries' stock plummeting tomorrow.
Stark Industries was his lifeline. His power, wealth, life, and dreams were tied to it.
The only way to advance was to eliminate the obstacle before him.
Previously, he had reached his limit and made his choice.
In some ways, aside from lacking talent and charisma, he was indeed more suited than Tony to be chairman.
But some things aren't achieved by effort alone.
Everyone knows Tony Stark is the one who can revive Stark Industries.
Obadei had realized this, reluctantly accepting reality.
His gaze turned cold as he thought of the "Iron Tyrant" suit in the secret New York lab.
The only way to restore Stark Industries' stock was to secure massive military orders, proving Stark was still the major arms manufacturer it once was, not weakened by Tony's withdrawal from weapons.
Although a weakened camel is still bigger than a horse, that wasn't the outcome Obadei wanted.
"Tony…"
Obadei clenched his fists and, escorted by bodyguards, entered his car.
As he rode, he looked at the passing cityscape with unfocused eyes.
The driver could sense the murderous aura inside the car.
"Tony!"
Obadei whispered, audible only to himself: "I thought this would be a chance to work with you properly!"
He then closed his eyes to rest.
...
Later that day, at DC Comics:
As work ended, Anton was about to go home when Natasha walked in.
Anton was about to speak when he noticed someone else behind her.
A person he had never met but could instantly recognize.
Anton raised an eyebrow.
"A rare guest!"
He turned back to his chair, smiling: "Director of S.H.I.E.L.D., I wonder what brings you here?"
