Percy's first shot hit the body of the first wolf, the second blasted into its skull with a spray of blood.
The wolves were black beasts with terrifying white fangs, muscles rippled under their fur as they raced across the field, hunting down the people in the caravan. Spiritmancers appeared in flashes and explosions of spirit energy.
"Let's get closer," Thalos yelled, running a bit slower to let Percy catch up.
George jumped out of his carriage, steel axe in hand, and ran to join them. Flynn screamed from behind.
"Be careful, Dad, Thalos, Percy!"
The loud howls, crashes, and dust rolled over them as they encountered the first wolves. Thalos surged ahead of them with a sudden burst, Marrowbiter flashed twice with crimson light, his body blurred, and four wolves fell to the ground.
A wolf approached from Percy's left, tearing through the dust with powerful leaps. George disappeared and appeared on his left in a flash, and his axe met the wolf.
