Unknown number flashed on Leo's screen.
However, Leo knew the call was from Miles Xu. It seemed that he quickly figured it out.
"Who is the call from?" Leah questioned, entering the room. Her hazel doe eyes stared at her husband in curiosity.
The corner of Leo's darkened eyes softened when he faced Leah. A gentle smile made its way on to his face. He muted the call and pushed the phone away on the table.
He couldn't let his innocent wife know about it.
Leah would be too scared to sleep at night.
Her timidity and kind heart made it impossible for her to hurt a fly. He was afraid she would be disappointed when she learned how vicious he could be.
More than that, he wanted no darkness in the world touched her. Leah could go on feeling how the world was a fairy tale.
"No one important," Leo replied then proceeded to ask, "What are you holding behind your back?"
Leah extended her hands, wearing a bright grin on her face. Dimples settled on both of her cheeks.
"A slice of fruit cake," Leah answered. Wearing a subtle pout on her face, she added, "After all that, you didn't get to try the cake."
Leah made her way over to him. Standing in front of Leo, she dug her fork into the soft cake, picking up a piece and bringing it closer to his mouth.
As he lowered his head to take a bite, emotions surged in his heart. He closed his eyes to suppress his emotions.
In his previous life, Leah made countless meals for him only to get disregarded by him. When he returned home after a long day at work, he would always find her sitting under the warm light in the dining room.
Leah's head shook as she almost fell asleep. But the girl tried hard to keep herself awake. At times, she would resort to slapping her cheeks.
Upon hearing Leo's footsteps, those hazel eyes of her sparkled in expectation, and a soft smile formed on her face. She greeted him.
"Leo, you're here! I have made dinner. It must have gotten cold by now. Let me warm it up."
Leo's eyes shifted to her bandaged fingers and burn marks. Noticing his gaze, she showed an embarrassed smile and hid her hands behind her back. A growl left her mouth meanwhile, letting him know how she hadn't had a meal yet.
Leo sneered. "What makes you think I will eat what you cook? Stop doing these unnecessary things. What a bother!"
He indifferently watched Leah's expression drop. The luster in those eyes were gone, turning dull. Turning his back on her, he walked away, ignoring her sinking mood.
This was a regular occurrence. No matter how many times Leah had been let down by him, she would persist. Every night, he came home to warm meal prepared for him and Leah trying to please him.
Regret clenched his chest.
How could he have remained so heartless in his previous life?
Leah frowned. "You look bad. Does it taste that bad?"
Suppressing in his bursting emotions, Leo shook his head, and the corner of his lips curled up.
"It is delicious," he commented, "the best thing I ever had in my life."
The praise caused Leah to shyly lower her line of sight. As she shifted her weight between both of her legs, she raised the plate and presented it to him.
"It can't be that good, but thank you. If you want to eat more, it's there in the kitchen," Leah babbled on in her nervousness. "It's a large cake. And also, whenever you want, I will bake it for you. Not only this, but many more cakes also."
Leo received the plate of cake from her hand and vocalized, "Didn't you promise me to not enter the kitchen?"
Leah blinked her eyes.
Then, she cleverly pointed out, "I am strong. I can easily lift the oven and bring it out."
A glint in her eyes showed how proud she was for coming up with it.
How silly and cute!
Leo truly wanted to lock his wife inside the house, hiding the treasure to himself.
Although his heart melted on the inside, he maintained his composure and tapped the fork on her forehead lightly.
"Don't get too smart with me."
Following that, he picked up his phone. He glanced at the screen and noticed the ten phone calls made. It seemed that Miles was really impatient.
"Go to sleep. I have a call to receive," Leo said before stepping out of the room.
As another one of Miles's call came, Leo picked it up this time.
"What did you do to Henry? Where did you take him away? Do you think you will be able to get out of this safely? I will report it to the police!" threatened Miles.
Unfazed, Leo coldly asked, "Do you think you son and business will remain unscathed if you report to the police?"
Henry Xu consumed the illegal drugs on his free will, instead of coercion. Once this matter was brought forward, all of the dirty past that the Xu Family tried to hide regarding their son would surface as well.
Not only that, Henry would also end up behind the jail with the media tearing him apart. With this, even the secrets Miles tried to hide about himself would be touched too.
"What do you want?" Miles asked through his gritted teeth. "Henry has no enmity with you. Do you think it is worth it to offend the Xu Family for a fool?"
Leo's eyes darkened.
Although he called his wife a fool, no one was allowed to do it. He knew they held malicious intent in their heart, looking down on Leah.
It seemed what he had done wasn't enough.
"I have already made my condition known."
That reminded Miles of the five percent shares he wanted. Miles grip on his phone tightened, thinking how he had a big appetite.
"Impossible! Since you hold no fear, I will show you what happens you mess with the Xu Family," Miles retorted.
Now that Leo Zhen had lost all his power, he didn't think Leo could forever hide his son from him. And since the man dared to act so audaciously, Miles was determined to teach him a lesson.
Leo didn't expect Miles to agree so soon. It would be boring otherwise. He wanted to have that bastard son of his tortured more.
"Don't catch me calling my wife a fool again," Leo warned. His sinister thoughts were easily expressed through his deep, low voice. "I am a vengeful person."
