Chapter 17 - Clash At The Border

The ground trembled beneath my boots as Silco's warriors assembled, their black armor gleaming under the moonlight. The air was thick with tension as my heart raced, I couldn't believe it, he had the nerbe to come after me.

"They're close". Silco murmured beside me. His hand brushing against my arm, lingering too long to remod me of his 'claim'.

I didn't flinch, I simply stepped foward, my eyes narrowing on the darkline of the forest beyond the dark line. And then they entered. Armed, sharp and disciplined.

His warriors emerged first - sleek and trained, their growls thrugh the air like distant thunder. And at the center of them, a black astrid horse emerged, tall, elegant, and then him...

Xavier.

The sight of him ripped from the air from my lungs, his hair was wind shoot, jaw clenched, his eyes burning with that same intensity that once pinned me down beneath him.

He laughed - short, dangerous, cold. His eyes softening for a brief second. "Come back Merida. Now.

The entire battlefield seemed to hold it's breath, I tilted my chin, meet his gaze. "I'm not yours anymore".

The word tasted like ash - Because a part of me knew it was a lie. His jaw clenched - Then I'll burn this place down to the ground.

The growls of both packs erupted, the air crackling with the promise of violence, Silco's wolves shifted, and Xavier dismounted in a smooth, predatory motion.

And then -

A wolf howl shattered the air. Everyone tensed. From the trees behind Xavier, shadows began to move -

fast, feral, too many to count.

Not his warriors.

Not Silco's.

Something else....
