Chapter 16 - Hunger and Fire
Days bled into nights and nights into restless haze.
Xavier was restless, no matter how many warriors he sent to scour the lands, no matter how many packs he threatened, no trace of me. His temper became a storm that never broke.
Women tried to slip into his bed but none could fill the hunger burning within him.
He could still feel my scent, my breath, the way I would look at him like he was my Alpha and my curse.
Seraphine continued her flawlessly performance, smiling at the pack, acting every inch of the future Luna but even she could see it - the way his gaze would drift past the crowd for someone who wasn't there.
The pack felt it too, their Alpha wasn't whole, and when an Alpha wasn't whole - He was dangerous.
Warriors limped after every encounter with him, Seraphine, like a poisonous flower, leaned in his door way, faking sympathy.
"She's gone Xavier, if you think she's really in silco's territory for this long, don't you think, she warming his bed every night?"
He said nothing, his knuckles bled as they dug into the wooden table.
Meanwhile, in Silco's territory....
I moved like a shadow now, faster, harder, sweat dripped down my spine as I landed a final blow to the training dummy as it finally snapped in half, Silco's warriors watched with shock.
My strength was no longer in just my claws, it was in my stance, my aim, my refusal to fall.
Silco watched from the edge of the training pit, on unreadable expression on his face. He liked what he saw. Maybe too much.
"You're getting good" He said, stepping into the pit. "Really good, we'd be unstoppable if you worked with me.... fully"
My hand tightened around the staff, my eyes narrowing. "I already am working with you"
His smirk was slow and dangerous. "Not the way I want you to".
My body tensed, and I knew exactly what he meant. He'd been patient so far, biding his time, sharpening me into a weapon, but the way his gaze reeked over my body, his patience was running out.
"You'll get nothing from me", I spoke, my voice cold as ice.
Silco's smile didn't falter as he stepped close. "Oh little wolf, everyone breaks eventually, even you.
I didn't answer him, I was already wiping my blade, ny mind drifting of to where I didn't want it to.
Xavier.
No matter how much I tried to bury him in my mind, filled with hate and betrayal, his face clawed through, his voice, his touch.... his scent, my heart betrayed me in many ways, my mind hated.
Meanwhile back at Xavier's pack house....
He gathered his best warriors, as he dressed in armor as Jayden rushed to him.
"Alpha, where to?" He snapped at him, his voice sharp enough to cut. "To the devil's pack, I'm going to bring back my girl myself".
As night fell on Silco's territory...
I was mid - swing, sparring with a tall warrior when the heavy doors to the courtyard opened, as a patrol guard stumbled in, gasping for air.
"A-Alpha", he said, looking straight at Silco. "We've found Alpha Xavier's hunting party, they've crossed the border and heading straight for here.
Every muscle in my body froze. His name was now a dagger to my heart, as I tasted anger in my tongue.
Silco's smirk was slow and dangerous. "Well then.... let's give them a well deserving welcome " I gripped my blade until my knuckles whitened. My pulse pounding loudly in my ear.
Part of me wanted to run.
Part of me wanted to fight.
And a part of me.... wanted to see his face again.
I swallowed hard, forcing the wall inside me into a single breath, before I whispered.
"Let them come".
