Deputy Kutter showed Roger and Missy Pierson into Blue's office and quietly shut the door behind them. Blue extended a hand toward the two chairs in front of her desk. "Please, have a seat."
The couple sat down. Missy hung her purse strap on the corner of the chair. She was unusually quiet, staring at her hands folded together in her lap.
"Everything okay?" asked Blue.
"Something arrived in the mail today," said Roger. He glanced at his wife. "And Missy has something to tell you."
Roger pulled a small manila envelope out of his coat pocket and placed it on Blue's desk. "It's a thumb drive with an audio file on it."
Blue didn't touch the envelope, knowing it needed processing for prints. She could see the postage mark, though—Dallas, Texas with an October 31, 2019 date. The top corner didn't have a return address, but Roger's name and address was written in permanent marker in the center of the envelope.
