Blue woke up in the hospital. Colt sat beside her and straightened up the minute she awoke. "How'd I end up here?"
"This is where you go when you're stabbed three times and lose enough blood that you pass out."
"Lila?"
"She's fine. Mr. Boo handed over Billy Flood, who admitted to killing Mrs. Whitmore's cats and tying up Lila in the basement.
"Mr. Boo is real," said Blue.
"He sure is," agreed Colt. "And thanks to him, you and Lila are both alive.
"Billy was working up to killing her," said Blue. "Did you see what he did to those poor kitties?"
"A psychopath in the making."
"No in-the-making to it," said Blue. "The boy was already there." She looked around. "How long am I stuck in this joint."
"A few days," he said. "You've got a concussion from getting whacked in the head. And you have about four new holes in you."
"Crap."
"Your mom went to go get coffee."
