Chapter 22: Hometown Hero

August 20th, 2000, marked a triumphant return for Holmes as he brought his music to his hometown of Chicago. He announced a concert at the United Center, the city's largest indoor arena, with a seating capacity of over 20,000.

Ticket Sales:

In the era of 2000, ticket sales were primarily handled through traditional methods:

1. Ticketmaster Outlets: Fans lined up at Ticketmaster outlets, located in department stores, record stores, and other retail locations, to purchase tickets in person.

2. Phone Orders: Ticketmaster also offered phone ordering, but lines were often long and frustrating.

3. Limited Online Sales: Online ticket sales were still in their early stages, but Ticketmaster's website offered a limited number of tickets for purchase.

Despite the limited online availability, tickets for Holmes's concert sold out within days, a testament to his immense popularity in Chicago. Scalpers quickly emerged, selling tickets for exorbitant prices on the secondary market.

The Concert:

The atmosphere at the United Center was electric as fans eagerly awaited Holmes's arrival. The crowd was a diverse mix of ages, races, and backgrounds, united by their love for Holmes's music.

The lights dimmed, and the opening chords of "New Player in Town" filled the arena. Holmes emerged on stage, dressed in a black leather jacket, a diamond-studded chain, and a confident swagger. The crowd erupted in cheers as he launched into his first song.

Holmes performed all of his hits, including "None Like Me," "Street Dreams," and "The Game is Mine." His energy was infectious, and he commanded the stage with ease.

Surprise Guests:

Midway through the concert, Holmes introduced his special guests. "Chicago, I want to bring out two people who have been instrumental inmy success," Holmes announced, "First, please welcome the incredibly talented, the one and only, Mariah Carey!"

The crowd went wild as Mariah walked onto the stage, looking stunning in a shimmering gown. She and Holmes embraced before launching into a breathtaking performance of "Lovely." Their voices blended together seamlessly, creating a magical moment that the audience would never forget.

Next, Holmes introduced his brother and right-hand man, Teddy. "Chicago, I want to bring out my brother, my best friend, the one who's always had my back. Please welcome Teddy!"

Teddy joined Holmes on stage, and the two brothers launched into a high-energy performance of a new, unreleased track. Teddy, who had always been a talented rapper, held his own alongside Holmes, showcasing his lyrical skills and stage presence.

The concert was a resounding success, solidifying Holmes's status as a hometown hero and a force to be reckoned with in the music industry.

Deepening Bond with Mariah:

Throughout the concert, Holmes and Mariah shared several intimate moments on stage, exchanging smiles, glances, and heartfelt gestures. Their connection was palpable, and it was clear that their bond had deepened significantly since their collaboration on "Lovely."

Backstage after the concert, Mariah and Holmes talked for hours, discussing their dreams, their fears, and their future plans. They found solace in each other's company, realizing that they had found a true kindred spirit in one another.

Boss's Approval:

News of Holmes's successful concert and his growing influence reached the ears of his boss, a powerful and respected figure in Chicago's underworld. The boss summoned Holmes to his office for a meeting.

"Holmes," the boss said, his voice gruff but approving, "I've been watching you. You've done well. You've taken over the Northside, you've become a music star, and you've made a lot of money for us. I'm impressed."

Holmes bowed his head respectfully. "Thank you, boss," he replied.

"Don't get complacent, Holmes," the boss warned. "There are always new threats, new challenges. You need to stay focused, stay hungry, and keep rising. Youhave the potential to become a legend, but you need to earn it."
