Chapter 126 - Things We Don’t Say Loudly

Ren finished the routine with a sharp final movement, chest heaving as the music faded. He bent forward slightly, hands braced on his thighs, breathing hard.

 

That was my cue.

 

I was at his side instantly, handing him a towel and a bottle of water like a well-trained assistant—or a devoted girlfriend with priorities.

 

He took the bottle, gulping it down like he'd crossed a desert, coughing lightly as he swallowed too fast.

 

"Slow down," I laughed, gently pressing the towel to his neck and dabbing away the sweat. "You're not trying to drown."

 

He let me fuss over him without complaint, which was rare enough to make my heart swell. His breathing gradually evened out as he leaned back against the mirrored wall, eyes half-lidded.

 

"I guess," he muttered, voice still rough from exertion, "the rumors about you died down on their own."

 

I chuckled softly. "I told you they would."
