Eric sat in the driver's seat, one hand casually resting on the wheel while the other drummed to whatever song Kai had insisted on blasting.

 

Lance occupied the passenger seat, half-turned as he argued with Kai about something completely pointless—probably food.

 

Ren and I were squeezed in the middle row.

 

Kai, of course, had taken the entire backseat like a king claiming his throne—legs stretched out, arms behind his head, utterly unbothered by the concept of personal space.

 

And me?

 

I was very bothered.

 

Because Ren's fingers were intertwined with mine when no one was looking.

 

Casually.

 

Naturally.

 

Like it was the most normal thing in the world.

 

My heart slammed so hard against my ribs it nearly crawled up my throat. I swear I could hear it—thud, thud, thud—like some dramatic background soundtrack.

 

Ren, meanwhile, was perfectly calm.

 

Of course he was.
