Chapter 93 - A String of Losses

Fragmented scenes of everyday life suddenly flooded into the Winter Soldier's mind. Those memories clashed violently with the ones Hydra had implanted in him — as if a rock concert had erupted in his head, deafening and chaotic, making him tremble uncontrollably on the ground from the pain.

"Looks like there's still hope," Han Yu murmured.

He raised a finger and flicked it lightly.A faint green glow entered the Winter Soldier's head, calming him down in an instant. His trembling ceased, and his eyes slowly closed.

"Boss, did you kill him?"

At that moment, Ultron approached, noticing Han Yu's movement and asking curiously.

"No," Han Yu replied. "I just put him to sleep. That trace of green light will help clear out the things Hydra implanted in him. When he wakes up, he'll remember who he really is."

As Han Yu spoke, his palm brushed across his face, returning to his true appearance. After all, this man was Captain America's close friend. If Han Yu could heal him and bring him back, that favor wouldn't be easy for Rogers to repay. He knew well how important the Winter Soldier was to Captain America.

Otherwise, Rogers would never have broken with Stark for him — nor would the Avengers have split apart because of it. Han Yu wanted to prevent that rift from ever happening.

He knew that the aliens who would invade Earth in the future would only grow stronger and more numerous. The Battle of New York not long ago had merely been the beginning.Beyond that, even more formidable, godlike beings would arrive.

Dormammu, Thanos, the Silver Surfer… none of them were easy opponents. And this world was no longer the same Marvel universe that followed the original "script."

There would be countless new variables — and each one could bring disaster. So now, every bit of extra strength mattered.

"Alright, let's move."

Using the Green Lantern's energy, Han Yu lifted the Winter Soldier into the air.Seeing that Ultron had finished his data backup, the two returned to the surface.

Han Yu glanced down at the old S.H.I.E.L.D. base beneath them.A soft green glow gathered in his palm, condensing into a small, crystal-clear lotus flower.

Ultron looked at the lotus, uncertain what it was — it appeared no bigger than a palm, yet the energy it radiated was immense.

It was hard to believe Han Yu had created it in less than a few seconds. His mastery of the Green Lantern Ring had clearly reached an astonishing level.

"Go," Han Yu commanded softly.

The lotus floated downward, landing gently on the building's remains. The instant it touched the structure, it detonated — not outward, but downward, a column of force driving deep into the earth.

In the blink of an eye, the base was reduced to rubble.A deep crater remained, everything within utterly annihilated — not a trace left behind.

After destroying everything, Han Yu glanced casually toward one direction, the corners of his lips lifting slightly. He said nothing, turned, and left with Ultron.

Nearly half an hour after they departed, several figures emerged from the direction Han Yu had glanced at earlier.

"Did he notice us just now?" one of them whispered.

"He shouldn't have — our concealment was perfect."

"I think we were exposed. He looked our way for a second… but it seemed like he didn't even care."

"Better report to Mr. Pierce. Zola's destroyed, and the Winter Soldier's been taken. Mr. Pierce is going to lose his mind."

Their whispered conversation made it clear — they were Hydra operatives. They'd been stationed there to monitor Zola and had witnessed everything: Han Yu and Ultron's arrival, their departure, and the total destruction of the site.

Later that night, inside a lavish villa, a middle-aged man listened to his subordinates' report — and suddenly slammed the table, sending papers flying in rage.

"What did you just say? Say it again!"

The Hydra agent trembled as he replied,"Zola… has been destroyed. And the Winter Soldier was taken."

Hearing it a second time, the man felt his blood pressure surge. He staggered back a few steps and collapsed into his chair, looking visibly older in an instant.

He was Alexander Pierce — the current leader of Hydra and the man secretly in charge of S.H.I.E.L.D.Hydra's deep infiltration of S.H.I.E.L.D. had been possible largely because of him.

Pierce took several sharp breaths, forcing down his fury."Where is that man now? Arrange everything — I'm going to see him first thing tomorrow morning!"

"Yes, sir!" the Hydra agent responded quickly. "We've already tracked his location — he's in a small grocery store in downtown New York. I'll prepare the car immediately so you can leave whenever you wish!"

The man spoke hastily, grateful to escape the room alive. He was one of the Hydra members who had just returned from New Jersey — the only one still breathing.

Moments earlier, while they were reporting, Pierce had shot the others in a fit of rage. This one survivor had barely escaped execution.

Ignoring his retreating subordinate, Pierce rose and walked slowly to the large floor-to-ceiling window.Gazing out at the starry night sky, he muttered to himself:

"Hydra's plan cannot end in my hands… Han Yu — just who are you?"

Back at the grocery store, Han Yu and Ultron each returned to their rooms.Han Yu was still suppressing the divine power granted by the Mark of the Undying — he didn't let it keep him endlessly energized.

He had no desire to become some sleepless, tireless machine.Sleep was one of life's great pleasures, after all.Waking up refreshed to the morning's first breath of clean air — that was one of the best feelings in the world to him.

"I'm heading to bed," Han Yu said with a yawn after settling the Winter Soldier into a spare room."Make sure you finish that software for me."

"Boss, you're exploiting your employee," Ultron grumbled. "It's the middle of the night, no gaming, just work — is this what a bald programmer's life is like?"

Han Yu chuckled and patted his shoulder."There's a saying from my hometown: Heaven tests those destined for greatness. I believe in you — you're the star of tomorrow!"

"Yeah, right…" Ultron rolled his eyes. "Fine, I'll do it. If nothing goes wrong, you'll see it when you wake up."

"Good. Call me when it's done," Han Yu said, already heading off to bed.

The next morning, Han Yu was still lost in a pleasant dream when a furious pounding on the door jolted him awake.

"Boss! Boss, wake up! The sun's already up — get up!"

The rapid, relentless knocking left him no chance of falling back asleep.Groaning, he dragged himself up and opened the door.

"I'm up, I'm up! Can't a man get some sleep in peace?!"

Ultron blinked innocently."But didn't you tell me to call you when it was done…?"
