"Erik, are you okay?" Charles was about to step forward to check on Erik, but Han Yu stopped him with a slight shake of his head.
"Not yet. His ability has awakened, and it's in an uncontrollable stage. He needs to process it himself first."
Han Yu's psychic energy surged massively toward Erik, forming a barely-there "cocoon" around him to prevent him from damaging anything outside.
Hearing this, Charles was a little surprised — so the explosions and breakages around were caused by Erik!
Charles was worried, but he was not impulsive. Seeing Han Yu's calm explanation, he stepped back, though a deep concern remained on his face.
"Come on, Erik. Don't fail."
Watching Erik curl up on the ground, trembling, Han Yu clenched his fists tightly and whispered to himself.
Charles glanced at Han Yu curiously. This was their first meeting, yet Han Yu seemed more invested in Erik successfully awakening than he was himself.
Could he be lying?
No. Charles could tell. With one of his PhDs in psychology, he could analyze subtle expressions and know when someone was being sincere.
On Han Yu's face, Charles saw only genuine concern and expectation. That was what puzzled him — why was this stranger so eager for Erik to awaken? They had never met before.
Actually, Erik, the Magneto of Marvel, was one of Han Yu's favorite characters. He had never intended to hurt others. In the comics, he turned "bad" only because of the horrors of World War II and witnessing humanity's extreme persecution of mutants.
Only reluctantly did Magneto rise up to lead mutants in resistance. Compared to Professor X, who wanted peace, Han Yu preferred Magneto. If he were a mutant, he would have joined Magneto without hesitation.
They were not wrong. They just wanted to survive. Humanity couldn't accept the "different," and any mutant posing a threat would not be allowed to live in peace.
Time passed quickly. Erik's trembling gradually slowed. Nearly twenty minutes had passed since the initial violent shakes.
When Erik's body stopped shaking, Han Yu lifted the psychic cocoon and approached him, helping him to his feet.
Charles stepped up as well. "Are you okay?"
Gasping for air, Erik, soaked in sweat, smiled weakly. "I'm still alive. This feels way worse than a hangover."
Seeing him joke like that, Charles exhaled in relief — if Erik had suddenly gotten serious, he might have scared them.
"Here, eat this first." Han Yu handed Erik a "Senzu Bean."
Erik examined it carefully, even sniffing it, until Han Yu, half-laughing, assured him it wasn't poisoned. Then he swallowed it.
"Whoa! What is this? I'm full of energy again!"
Erik stood, stretching his limbs. His body, previously weakened by extreme pain, was now fully recharged.
"Don't get distracted. Show us what your ability is."
Han Yu's words excited Charles as well. Both focused on Erik, eager to see his mutant power.
"I'll try."
Erik concentrated, sensing the changes inside him. Then he looked at Han Yu and Charles. "I think this is my superpower."
He didn't speak aloud — the words went directly into their minds!
"So it really is telepathy. Their powers are switched? Interesting." Han Yu thought. Seeing Charles' magnetic field control, he had suspected Erik might have telepathy. This made things very interesting.
In their previous lives, these two had "loved and hated each other," each causing trouble with their powers. Now, seeing their abilities swapped was fascinating.
"Is this like mind reading or something?" Erik projected into their minds.
"No. Your power is telepathy. You can enter someone's mind without physical contact, read and even modify memories and thoughts, and control their actions," Han Yu explained slowly.
"That powerful?"
Erik couldn't believe his own ability had such destructive potential. Though less flashy than Charles' metal-bending, it was an extremely strong power.
"Good. Now that you both have your abilities, let's start the plan early. We need to gather mutants before the world notices, to avoid chaos."
Han Yu didn't let Erik dwell on the strength of his power. He explained the plan. Both listened attentively, occasionally offering suggestions, which Han Yu accepted and improved upon.
After all, this plan was originally customized by these two. Han Yu had brought it from another world and shared it. Naturally, they would have ideas.
By the time they finished discussing, it was already 8 PM. If not for classmates knocking, telling them the café was closing, they might have talked all night.
"Oh no, the stuff in this room…"
They suddenly realized that during Erik's awakening, many items in the room had been broken. The psychic cocoon had kept the noise from being heard outside.
How could they now explain that so many things were broken? They couldn't just say "it happened by accident."
"No problem. I'll handle it."
Han Yu smiled. For him, restoring the room was easy. Using a "shop system," he spent one upgrade point to return everything to its original state. Charles and Erik were astonished — what kind of trick was this?
Outwardly, Han Yu acted casual, but inside he was silently fuming, scolding the shop system: "Just to restore a bit of a room, you want one upgrade point? I'm the shop owner! Do you have to exploit your host like this?"
Perhaps the system had a conscience. It suddenly triggered a mission.
"Ding! Branch mission activated: Collect the abilities of two mutants. Mission source: [The Power of the Debt King]."
Hearing this, Han Yu relaxed. While Charles and Erik weren't paying attention, he used two Decade cards on them, acquiring cards containing their abilities.
"Branch mission complete! Reward: 50 upgrade points!"
Han Yu glanced at the cards. Their names had changed:
