Pierce didn't believe it. He thought Han Yu was just trying to scare him, so he directly pressed the button hidden in his palm.
A burst of fiery light ignited within the pile of bombs. At the instant they fully detonated, Han Yu reached out his hand toward them. A massive surge of Green Lantern energy burst forth from his palm, instantly enveloping the entire cluster of explosives.
The enormous explosion occurred within the green construct but never dispersed. The smoke and flames were wrapped tightly by the Green Lantern energy, compressed until they vanished completely.
Pierce stared at this scene and genuinely felt like he was the clown. The mania on his face finally faded away, replaced entirely by fear.
Earlier, when he went to the convenience store, Wanda had suppressed him, but once Han Yu and the others left, Pierce's men reported that Wanda hadn't followed. So he planned to use the lives of everyone in the building as leverage—maybe he couldn't kill Han Yu, but he could at least make him suffer for a while.
He never expected that Han Yu had someone so unnaturally fast by his side—a man who could locate every bomb in the entire building in the blink of an eye, without even giving Pierce the chance to press the button.
"You're not talking? If you won't talk, I'll do it myself!"
Brilliant green light burst from Han Yu's eyes. His black pupils were covered by a crystalline emerald glow—the ring's ability: telepathy.
Han Yu entered Pierce's mind, flipping through his memories as though watching a movie.
"Strange. This guy never ran into anyone like the Joker, nor has he ever played GTA. Then why is he wearing clown makeup? And why does he act exactly like the Joker?"
Han Yu frowned. Normally, the telepathy of a Green Lantern ring was impossible to resist. Unless the target possessed a cosmic artifact like the Mind Stone, or was a Skyfather-level being, resisting this kind of mental intrusion was impossible.
Let alone a normal human like Pierce—there was absolutely no way he could resist the mind of a Green Lantern. Which meant he really had never encountered the Joker.
"Boss?"
Although they didn't understand what was happening, Ultron and Quicksilver stepped forward, standing on either side of Han Yu protectively.
"Steve, I don't want to keep this guy alive. Kill him. That won't bother you, will it?"
Han Yu's cold voice came out. Captain America blankly agreed—he didn't understand why Han Yu's mood had shifted so drastically. The last time they met, Han Yu had been gentle and warm. Now his distant, icy demeanor gave off oppressive pressure.
His words sounded like a question, but his tone made it clear nothing Steve said would change the outcome—Han Yu was going to kill Pierce no matter what.
As soon as Captain America responded, Han Yu tightened his grip and snapped Pierce's neck. He would never show mercy to an enemy.
If someone still had the mindset to repent, Han Yu might consider letting them go. But he understood the Joker very well—and how terrifying people like him truly were.
The reason the Joker was Batman's eternal nemesis was because Batman refused to kill. Despite capturing the Joker countless times—even when he had the opportunity to end him—Batman always chose to take him alive.
Batman wanted to prove that Gotham, swallowed by darkness, could still be saved, and that he himself was the last glimmer of light. If he let the Joker push him into killing, then that final light would vanish.
Han Yu didn't have to worry about any of that. For villains like this—kill them and that's the end of it. He felt no psychological burden. He didn't need to prove anything to anyone.
"With just this level, you dare come out? You're nowhere near his league."
Han Yu casually tossed aside Pierce's limp body, then checked Nick Fury and Natasha's injuries. After simple bandaging, he had Captain America send the two to the hospital.
He then sat alone in a chair, watching others clean up Pierce's corpse.
"Boss, aren't you going back?" Ultron asked.
Han Yu didn't respond for a long time. Only after Ultron called out again did he snap back to reality.
"Ultron, keep a very close eye on Pierce's body. Don't overlook anyone who comes into contact with it," Han Yu said.
He had to keep everything within his control. He hated dealing with things passively—it irritated him, and it could lead to irreversible consequences.
"Don't worry, boss. I've already connected a portion of my consciousness to S.H.I.E.L.D.'s satellite system. I'll monitor everything strictly," Ultron replied.
The group headed back to the convenience store. Han Yu didn't notice that the pool of Pierce's blood on the floor—still uncleaned—was slowly evaporating. The scarlet blood turned into green particles and drifted away on the breeze.
...
Back at the convenience store, Han Yu lay on his bed, replaying the details of Pierce's memories.
"He clearly never encountered the Joker… so why did he turn out like that? Was it really just a mental breakdown?"
No matter how he thought about it, he couldn't figure it out. Just as he was about to give up, the system suddenly rang out.
"Instant Mission Triggered: [Save Gaia Brand]. Mission rating up to SSS. The host may choose the mission style:
Complete the mission easily. Reward: 100 upgrade points.
Complete the mission cautiously. Reward increases depending on the host's level of caution."
Han Yu sat up, confused. "What does that mean? System, repeat that."
This was the first time he had encountered a world he didn't recognize. It surprised him—but he knew that no matter what world the system sent him to, it would always be from an anime or movie. He simply didn't know which one this time.
"Please listen to Goddess Lythrande explain the situation. Good luck."
"What the—? Oh, come on!"
Before he could react, a burst of radiant light appeared beneath him. In the next instant, he fell straight into a spiraling portal of space-time.
...
Boom!
A golden pillar of light descended from the sky, landing inside a luxurious and magnificent temple. Its impact stirred up thick clouds of dust.
"Hiss—ow, ow, ow… What's wrong with this system? It didn't even finish explaining before dumping me here. It's getting worse and worse. Why does this mission feel completely passive this time?"
When the dust cleared, the man inside the golden pillar was revealed—it was Han Yu. At the moment, he was clutching his lower back, sucking in a cold breath.
Don't be fooled by how imposing his descent looked. Inside the golden pillar, he had been tumbling the entire way down, and ended up landing flat on his back.
Luckily, he reacted fast—when the dust rose, he executed a carp flip and sprang to his feet, barely avoiding looking completely ridiculous.
"So… so handsome…"
Not far away, a golden-haired girl couldn't help saying aloud, hearts practically visible in her eyes.
