Chapter 17 - Further Testing

So now that my emotions are in place and I have not gone into further depression. I will continue forth with trying out different types of techniques just to see which sticks with me.

Basic sword and shield movements would do it, but I have zero to no knowledge about it whatsoever. So in a sense, I will have to make use of the Arnis techniques once more, which are the basic strikes such as forward, upper, horizontal, and the combinations between the three.

Next would be shield placement, which is to aim the shield at the right angle so that it would be able to block any attack that gets to me. My "shield," though, is more of a buckler shield now that I have a closer look at it. The spikes add a layer of protection to it as well, but it might cause me damage as well if I am not careful with it.

So no non-professional movements until I am confident enough to move with control and grace...how on earth would I be able to move in grace if I am just a crab? Something to think of later on, I guess, cause I have not yet seen a crab move in elegance befitting of a combat dancer. Don't know why I said that, but I know for sure that it sounded good in my head.

Anyway, I guess I should first try a few practice swings for the time being.

I began by first stashing my weapons back in my lair. After that, I then search for a perfect-sized tree with the right shape and size for it to become my practice weapon for the time being. Next for my shield, so I guess a root should be the right size. Plus, the roots would be perfect for a "safe" pseudo spikes that my shield is covered in, side to side.

This took a while, especially for the club one, since I had to make sure they were the perfect fit. Some were brittle, some were too small, and then some were even a combination of the two, which only made me annoyed. The roots were easy, as they were more durable than the club part of the tree that I wanted.

Minutes go by, and I have yet to see one that is perfect to be my practice club. Then it became hours as I tried a few, only to get a face full of wood on my face. Then, once it was almost getting dark, I simply gave up and went back to my lair and slept for the night. I will just continue it tomorrow.

Then came tomorrow, and I have yet to find the right tree to become my practice weapon. At that point, I slowly but surely began to get angry as I continued my search.

Again and again, only to find myself buried in wood and splinters at this point. So enough was enough as I gave up and simply used another thing as a practice weapon.

I do not know what has gotten into me to come up with this plan. I guess I was just annoyed by the sheer waste of time it was for me to simply search for something that was just a practice weapon and wasn't even something that I would use as an actual weapon.

What was this thing that I made into my practice weapon? Well, the one thing that is abundant in my lair and seems to be growing and spreading a lot...those coconut things. I grabbed one and started to swing it up and down in a practice motion similar to the frontal strike of Arnis.

Honestly, it was a macabre sight as I didn't even cut off the top part due to my sheer annoyance with the situation that I was in during my search. But it worked to a degree, as I guess I was slowly getting used to the motion as a crab.

Next, the side swings with the left one first, as that was a familiar one to do. Even done it too much, which caused me to spin due to the force and my footing, which to say is none. That and the fact that I was standing on sand only made it worse, as it took a while for my momentum to stop.

At that point, I had to stop and gather myself as I was getting dizzy with how much I spun. My head hurt a bit because of that, so I took a rest for now as my vision was still spinning. It even hurt my eyes as my sight was trying to get used to what I had gone through.

This taught me something, and that something is the fact that I will never ever try and do a spin attack for as long as I live in this world.

Now, during such a thing, I finally realize why I was queasy with doing that. I have really bad motion sickness. As in a car ride from one place to another would mess me up to the point that I would throw up either in the car or on the road.

Now I remember a certain detail from my memory that was so bad that I vow not to do it again. That was not to drink tons of water even if I was badly sick, as the last time that happened to me, my entire body had to expel an excessive amount of fluids out of my body...

So yeah, no more spin moves. For now, I will have to practice a stance for me to use for now.

Once I was fine and didn't feel sick. I now put my attention towards my footing or stance, as that mishap happened due to my not having a proper stance. But the thing is, though I have about 6 legs, and the stance I knew was for bipedal beings, so those wouldn't work for me. So I guess I'll use the Shiko Dachi stance or the Sumo Stance, since that would allow for a more grounded and stable stance fit for defense.

For a lunge, I'll use four of my legs to jump and then shift the middle one, and then use my front legs to stabilize myself as I land in front of me.

With that, I started to do just like that. Once I did the first part, I rechamber by going back to my previous position and then doing it over again until my body got used to it.
