Chapter 62 - 1

Hiding from road traffic on the far side of the concrete building, you strip, bundle everything into your jacket, and leave it next to the garage door. One of the windows is already cleanly broken, but it faces the road, so you'll have to move fast. It's less cold than your first day here, but your feet are sinking into the cold mud, so you hurriedly climb onto the roof. Then you lie down and transform.

An agonizing moment of dislocation as your veins and capillaries expand and rewire themselves around a quadrupedal body plan. It's the pelvis, that's where it always gets tricky. But your blood starts flowing the right way again, and your tongue lolls as you rise on all fours. From the roof, you wiggle to the window. But while your lupine form runs and jumps better than your human self, climbing is tricky, and you find yourself struggling to crawl through the window. You finally get your front end inside, but then you end up stuck, half in and half out. Only after a great deal of undignified kicking and wriggling are you able to drop into the building.

You're in, but you're not going to be able to do much as a wolf, so you slowly regain your homid form and rise, steam rising from your skin. Then you cross to the rolling garage door and open it just enough to retrieve your gear. You put your clothes back on and stamp your feet in the freezing cold storage room.
