Selena was genuinely furious.
Victor had saved her life, helped her eliminate all the werewolves that had hunted her, and even took her in as his adopted daughter. He had elevated her status within the Blood Clan and treated her with unquestionable favor.
And now Lin Chen dared to slander Victor?
She glared coldly at him."You bastard Daoist—don't you dare smear Victor's name!"
Any goodwill she had felt toward Lin Chen vanished instantly. In her eyes, this man clearly had ulterior motives.
Lin Chen watched her walk away and simply shook his head. He had expected this outcome.
After all, Victor had treated Selena as a replacement for his deceased daughter. Two days of acquaintance could not outweigh years of protection and trust. Being doubted was only natural.
Suddenly—
"Ah—!"
A sharp scream rang out from downstairs.
It was Meier.
Lucian, the werewolf leader, had seized him and bitten down savagely. The moment Lucian tasted his blood, his eyes lit up with excitement—his body surged with strength.
"It's you," Lucian laughed wildly. "I finally found you."
Bang! Bang! Bang!
Selena leapt down and fired several shots at him.
Lucian waved his hand, and several werewolves immediately surrounded her. In the next instant, he rushed forward, a hidden blade sliding out from his sleeve, stabbing straight into Selena's shoulder.
"Ah!"
She cried out and staggered back.
Lin Chen appeared in a flash and caught her.
Before the werewolves could close in, silver needles shot from Lin Chen's hand. Each needle pierced precisely—several werewolves collapsed to the ground, twitching violently.
Lucian's skin was far tougher. The needles failed to penetrate deeply, but even he was startled.
Grabbing Meier, Lucian smashed through the window and leapt away.
Lin Chen did not pursue him.
Protecting Meier? That had nothing to do with him.
He lifted the unconscious Selena by the waist, jumped out the window, got into the car, and slammed the accelerator.
After stopping at a secluded corner, Lin Chen checked her wound. Blood was still flowing.
"That blade is poisoned?" he frowned.
He immediately used the Mysterious Gate Purification Technique.
But—
"Ah!"
Selena screamed in agony.
The technique was extremely harmful to vampires. Instead of healing, her wound worsened.
"Bastard!" Selena snapped awake, furious. "If you're going to kill me, just do it—why torture me like this?!"
"I'm saving you," Lin Chen said calmly. "Believe it or not."
She froze when she saw the charred wound left by the purification technique.
Lin Chen sighed, pricked his finger, and pressed it against her lips.
Blood flowed into her mouth.
Instinctively, she swallowed.
Only a few drops—but the effect was immediate. Warmth surged through her body. The pain vanished. The wound on her shoulder began to regenerate, new flesh forming smoothly.
Seeing her stabilize, Lin Chen tried to pull his hand away.
Selena suddenly grabbed his arm with both hands and sucked harder, nearly biting down.
"Are you crazy?!" Lin Chen yanked his hand back. "You're the one injured—why are you draining me?!"
"More," Selena said bluntly. "I'm not fully healed."
"You can't even find the wound anymore!"
"Stingy," she muttered. "It's just a dozen drops."
"So this is how the Blood Clan repays kindness—by bleeding people dry?" Lin Chen shot her a glare.
Selena checked her shoulder and realized she was completely healed. She looked slightly embarrassed.
She stood up, opened the car door, and jumped lightly—
Her eyes widened.
"I'm stronger. At least fifty percent stronger than before!"
She stared at Lin Chen with bright eyes."You're a treasure, you know that?"
Lin Chen waved his hand dismissively."The werewolf who stabbed you—do you know who he was?"
She shook her head. "No."
"He's Lucian. The legendary werewolf leader who was supposed to be dead."
"What?!" Selena was shocked. "No wonder he was so strong… Damn it, Kraven lied to Victor!"
Lin Chen snorted."You've really been brainwashed if you still think Victor is a good person."
Selena opened her mouth to argue—
Lin Chen waved his hand."Forget it. Let's go back."
"And you?" she asked.
"I have nowhere else to go," he replied casually. "I'll stay with you. Two pillows would be a waste."
She rolled her eyes but said nothing and took him back to the castle.
The moment they entered, Kraven rushed over anxiously.
"Selena! He can't stay here!"
"I brought him," she replied coldly. "You don't get a say."
Lin Chen arranged the quilt, patted the pillow, and said lazily,"What's wrong with letting someone sleep?"
Kraven nearly exploded.
Selena pushed him out and slammed the door shut.
Lin Chen smiled."Good. No more interruptions."
"Go to sleep," Selena said. "I'm checking information."
Lin Chen didn't argue. He washed up, climbed into bed, sniffed lightly."Smells nice."
After staying up almost all night talking with Lorna, exhaustion finally caught up with him. He fell asleep quickly.
Later, Selena approached quietly and stared at him.
"This guy is unbelievable," she muttered. "He just steals my bed and falls asleep?"
Her gaze drifted to his neck. She wiped the drool from the corner of her mouth.
"Just one bite… He won't die if I take a little."
Reason won.
She turned away, worked on the computer for a long time, and eventually lay down beside him.
Morning came.
The room was still dark. The castle's windows were specially treated to block sunlight—fatal to vampires.
Lin Chen woke and found Selena sleeping beside him.
Her pale face was close. She seemed to be dreaming, tiny fangs showing as she murmured:
"Just one bite… let me drink…"
Lin Chen stiffened."Even in your dreams you want my blood? That's terrifying."
He shifted slightly.
Selena woke instantly and jumped back.
Lin Chen laughed."So much for two pillows. Why did you squeeze over and drool?"
Her face turned red."It was early! I'm used to sleeping in bed—I forgot you were here!"
"No need to explain," Lin Chen said lightly. "I understand."
"You don't understand at all!"
Ignoring her, Lin Chen washed up and pulled out his phone.
"I'm going to livestream."
"It'll be noisy," Selena said lazily.
"Oh. Then deal with it."
She nearly spat blood."Then why did you even ask?!"
Lin Chen ignored her and started the stream.
Within minutes, over a million viewers flooded in.
He waved at the camera."Fellow Daoists—did you miss me?"
"Master, you're finally online!"
"Where are you streaming from?"
"Is it just me, or does this look like a girl's room?"
"Weren't you supposed to be fighting monsters?" Catwoman typed.
Lin Chen smiled calmly."No money for a hotel. I'm staying with a friend."
