Chapter: 27 Winston
In July 1943, acting on your previous speculation, you subjected the vampire monkey to vita-ray radiation. The experiment was a success. After being injected with the super-soldier serum, the vampire monkey not only survived but saw its strength and agility vastly improve. Its size increased to nearly two meters tall, and even more astonishingly, its intelligence grew rapidly while its thirst for blood disappeared. It quickly learned human language and could hold brief conversations with you. You named him Winston; he viewed you as his father and remained completely loyal.
In August 1943, Winston's intelligence continued to grow at an incredible rate. Perhaps the claim that the Super-Soldier Serum could increase brain power by 100% was true. After just one month, he had fully mastered human language and could serve as your lab assistant. With his help, you finally decided to inject yourself with the serum.
In September 1943, after undergoing vita-ray exposure, you received the injection and successfully survived. The effects were remarkable. Tests revealed that your strength and agility had tripled, with room for further improvement. Your mind was also clearer than ever before. You took a Mensa test, and your IQ reached 168—eight points higher than Einstein's. Winston's IQ, however, was a staggering 170.
In November 1943, with Winston's assistance, you continued to refine the Super-Soldier Serum, eventually creating a stable version diluted to a 30% concentration, making it suitable for direct injection. You locked the highest-quality dose in a safe. (You received the item: Super-Soldier Serum.)
In late November 1943, the leaders of the Soviet Union, the United States, and the United Kingdom met in Tehran, the capital of Iran. The meeting resulted in the Tehran Declaration, announcing an agreement among the three nations on a plan to annihilate the German army and work together to create peace after the war. Captain America finally ended his days selling war bonds and headed to the European front. And you, as a member of Project Rebirth and one of the most renowned scientists of the era, were drafted into the Strategic Scientific Reserve and sent to the front lines.
In December 1943, you brought Winston with you to the European front, introducing him to everyone as your assistant. His arrival initially caused a panic, but Winston's kindness and intelligence soon endeared him to everyone. Half a month later, Winston, whose combat prowess surpassed even Captain America's, naturally joined the Howling Commandos.
From January to August 1944, Germany suffered a series of setbacks after the Strategic Scientific Reserve joined the war. Without the Tesseract, even Red Skull and Hydra were unable to stop the advance of the Howling Commandos. Your outstanding combat skills and command abilities made you a shining star of the war, and you gradually gained command of the SSR.
From September 1944 to March 1945, under your command, the SSR successfully captured Arnim Zola, Hydra's chief scientist and mastermind. Using intelligence provided by Dr. Zola, the SSR began to systematically thwart Hydra's plots. During the war, Steve Rogers also taught you that human wisdom and courage could overcome any limit, and the two of you forged a deep friendship.
On May 8, 1945, thanks to the efforts of countless patriots and people of noble character, Germany announced its surrender. On August 6 and 9, 1945, the United States dropped two atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Japan announced its unconditional surrender, and World War II finally came to an end.
[In November 1945, Steve Rogers and Peggy Carter were married. You served as a witness at their wedding, and your gift to them was two serums that could delay aging.]
In December 1945, the Sorcerer Supreme, the Ancient One, appeared before you. She warned you that your actions had caused a divergence, leading to the emergence of a new parallel universe. You could only laugh at this. So what?
From 1945 to 1946, you and Winston became household names across the United States. Upon returning home, you helped establish the secret headquarters of the SSR, which was renamed the Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement, and Logistics Division—S.H.I.E.L.D. You became its first director, though in reality, your position was unchanged. Some even nicknamed the agency the "Starry Sky Agency." (Legendary Level +1)
From 1947 to 1948, your relationship with Einstein grew closer in the postwar years. You lured him into joining your work with promises of access to the Tesseract and an anti-aging serum, and he began to devote himself to its secret research. During this period, your company, Starry Sky Industries, also developed rapidly, especially in the field of integrated circuits. Your subordinates, John Bardeen and Walter Brattain, were both renowned experts in the field. Under your leadership, CMOS technology was born. To this day, over 95% of integrated circuit chips are based on CMOS technology.
[In 1949, at your invitation, Dr. Zola also joined the Tesseract research team. With his inclusion, the four smartest people in the world, with the exception of Howard Stark, were gathered in one place.]
In 1952, your research on the Tesseract finally yielded results. You extracted a new, stable isotope from within it—a powerful energy source with limitless potential. It was the same new element that Iron Man would one day use to replace the palladium in his arc reactor. Unfortunately, the technology of the era was not yet capable of synthesizing this element. Even a time traveler like you was powerless, forcing the project to be shelved for the time being.
In 1953, you built a library next to your mansion. No matter how busy you were, you always found time to read.
[From 1953 to 1960, you were issued more than 140 invention patents, including epoch-making creations such as the personal computer. The scale of Starry Sky Industries had far surpassed that of Stark Industries.]
In 1961, after five years of development, you, Einstein, and Winston created an arc reactor capable of producing two gigajoules of energy per second. This reactor could meet the energy needs of Starry Sky Industries and could also be used to power the Iron Man suit.
In 1968, you were nominated for and won the Nobel Prize in Physics for your invention of the transistor back in 1941.
In 1970, you resigned as Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. and appointed Steve Rogers as your successor. Although he was reluctant, he eventually accepted the position.
In 1972, you began to retreat from the public eye and rarely participated in the management of Starry Sky Industries. However, you still held 85% of the company's shares.
Even with the anti-aging serum, your friend Einstein died in 1975. Still, he had lived to a rare old age.
In 1983, you began the process of manufacturing the Tesseract isotope. In an era of limited technology, this was an extremely lengthy undertaking. That same year, Dr. Zola approached you with a request: he wanted to become a vampire to extend his lifespan. You fulfilled his wish.
In 1999, your friend and rival Howard Stark passed away. His 29-year-old son, Tony Stark, began to take over Stark Industries. You had a premonition that a new era of chaos was about to begin.
