Chapter 10 - A Contract With A Koru...

I raised my hands, shaking them from left to right. "No, no, I should be the one saying sorry." My confused face turned into a grin, "You were just trying to keep me safe back there, weren't you? And I called you something I shouldn't have." I said, apologetically.

I'm guessing she was talking about what happened back then at the adventurers' guild, and in that case, it really was my fault. She was simply trying to keep me safe, Emilia doesn't deserve to feel any remorse for what happened.

"No, Chris. I'm sorry for-"

She paused, leaning toward the side of my face.

"Too close." I whispered, as she smirked.

mwah.

Her lips reached close, towards my right cheek as I felt the kiss. I didn't even know what to say really, I just stood there, in shock.

"For this." Emilia said, giggling.

Then, she gave me a wink, and whispered in my ears. "See you at the cabin!"

As I watched her begin running back towards the direction from where we came from, my heart started pounding, over and over and over and over, non stop. So she's the first person I fall in love with, not a bad choice Chris, not a bad choice at all.

I smiled, as I heard the creak on every wooden branch I stepped on. As I started walking back towards the cabin, something attacked me.

Memories. Memories I've never knew started flooding my head in a white beam that I can't explain, zooms of arrows started coming at me inside of a white space.

"Don't hurt Mimi!" Where did that voice come from?

"What a poor kid, he's only eight, and yet, he has no remaining family left." Did that come from a corner in my head?

"Failed the awakening trial? I knew you would never become powerful enough to venture inside of dungeons! Haha, loser!"

Oh, I understand now. So this was the original Chris Jackson. The one that existed in this world prior to me coming here. And these memories… they're his.

As more and more memories appeared, I acknowledged that profile, I now have two memories, from two Chris Jacksons… but in a different, multiverse. That's my conclusion, this… is a multiverse, with a fantasy catch.

As I continued to walk back, the light above slowly started setting. But this… it's huge. Why though, it didn't give me memories of his family, why's that? For now, I should just move on with this information, my priority for now is to make a name for 'Police' in this fantasy world.

A while Later

"Finally arrived!" I stretched my arms out, letting out a yawn.

The door of Vly's estate… more so a cabin, was now right in front of me, and I was ready to go in, prepared for tomorrow's training after today's day off.

Bam!

The door stretched open without me even knocking yet.

"Hey, Chris!" Vly greeted me, "The royal capital of Areanthia is summoning all cleaners within the continent to the head estate." She smiled, but it looked more of a forced one. "Finally, your lazy ass can do something productive for once."

I grinned, slipping passed the entrance. "I know you'll miss me, no worries, I'll come back…" I paused, and let out a slight laugh. "Maybe."

"You better come back or I'll kill you-"

"Yeah, yeah," I said, cutting her off cooly. "But where's Emilia?"

Vly calmed down, "Oh, Emilia? She's just sleeping on the couch, nothing new."

That's what makes her, her. It isn't Emilia if she doesn't get half a days' rest.

Bam!

Vly slammed the door shut from behind as I made myself comfortable, laying eyes on the sleeping beauty, Emilia. I still can't believe she kissed me. That thought made my heart pound again. Yeah, I am in love.

"Pack your things! You and Emilia will leave first thing tomorrow!" Vly yelled, giving me no time to catch my breath.

"Already? Can't wait to see what other cleaners exist on this continent." I said, whisperingly.

There was nothing for me to pack, honestly, other than my Policeman outfit, which I will once again get to wear.

"Dinner's ready, grab it and eat on the couch!" Vly never stops yelling, she's always so… what's that word? Enthusiastic, yeah, that's it.

I walked up to Vly, took a metal plate with what a metal spoon gently off her hands. Even in a fantasy world, plates and utensils never change.

She gave me an aggressive look, "Don't forget to clean it when you're done." Not yelling after a sentence? That's new from Vly.

The Aroma of the sweet-scented rice with what looked like curry makes me feel so hungry as I walk to where I was originally sitting.

Scoosh.

The bottom of the couch felt even comfier than before. Now, let me try this out.

Crook.

The slight sound of the spoon placing the food in my mouth feels amazing. "Yum," I said, eating more and more.

Vly took a seat on the other couch, Emilia still sleeping.

I looked at her seriously, now knowing more about this world from the memories I received from Chris Jackson on Htrae. But it wasn't a lot of memories, just about his character, and what he was like. Being made fun of for being weak, being attacked while trying to protect Emilia as kids, and stuff like that.

"Vly," I put the spoon back on my plate to ask her something, "What could the royal capital want from cleaners? Last I heard, we're just insignificant glorified Janitors, so why bother summoning us?"

She lifted one of her legs to cover the other, a typical old woman sitting, "There's a war…" she took a deep breath. "If I were to assume so."

A war. Sounds like just what I need to make a name for myself here. Especially after learning about the first form of secret technique. I'll try it out in battle.

"But," no, there's no way, "We can't send Emilia."

"Haha." She whisperingly laughed, shifting her attention towards Emilia sleeping on the couch, "She'll be just fine, while training you, I've also been training her."

Oh, alright, if she says so. "Great, and who's going to be our ride there?"

"Your ride, hmm…" She said, pondering on that though, "I'll send another cleaner, about your age, he'll be taking you."

One of my age sounds cool, but how will he navigate around this place. I've been here for almost a month and I still can't find out where we are.

"How will he navigate… exactly?" I asked, intrigued.

"Well, in truth, he's not a cleaner." She continued, "But he'll be one starting by tomorrow."

That's easy. A cleaner is already by just a word. I guess we really are glorified janitors and barely policemen.

"It's just something about the royal capital on Areanthia that doesn't sit right with me," she added, "He also just signed a deal with a Koru, a demon bird basically."

So, you can sign contracts with creatures in this world. I wonder what would've happened if I had signed a contract with that Lantern Moth. Just that thought disturbs me.

"He's my age, as you said, but is he more powerful than me?" I asked, another question to the tally.

"Oh, him…"

Tap. Tap. Tap.

Knocking. Coming from the entrance.

Vly paused, "He's here already. I just sent the message, what a guy."

I stared at the door, as the knocking stopped. I smirked, "Let's see this… Koru."
