Chapter 11 - deuteragonist... Renji Ardent

Swoosh.

Creak.

The wooden door slowly began to open, slowly and slowly and slowly… until I saw him.

"Hey, elder…" The figure fully stepped into the house, shutting the door behind him. "I'm here."

He shifted all of our attention towards him, except for Emilia since she was sleeping.

This couch feels harder, strange. The dude's aura, in simple language, began to infect the objects.

It was black and slimy and horrid; the polar opposite of my own.

Step. Step. Step.

"Well, if it isn't Renji Ardent." Vly paused, smirking as he made his way towards me through each step, "This is the kid you're going to be with, enjoy."

She's talking about me, of course. From this boy's behavior, I could guess—even bet a few coppers that I don't have—he was up to no good.

He placed his hand on my left shoulder.

"Nice to…" He said, grinning, "Wow. You're weak."

Shake.

I got up from my chair, looking at him without a care in the world, both of us smiling.

"Let's take this outside, then." I whispered.

I won't tolerate any of that disrespect. Never again, from this fuckass, a bit too good-looking, dude.

He was your typical teenager, probably about my age, black hair like wet ink, with faint silver streaks that shone from the lantern light above. . .This dude has special effects! Generic Mr. Ken Kaneki here gets a halo?

The top of the hair, gesture of gravity's great assist, fell over his forehead in a loose sweep, while the sides were cut short, showing the sharp line of his jaw.

He's, if I were to guess, an arrogant type. But his black boots barely make a sound, his dark coat is simple but neat, like he put it on with care. Black jeans on top of all of that.

His eyes were gray, and maybe blue, more so both at the same time. His ears, elven; he was definitely related someway to Vly.

"Hold up!" He screamed right in front of my face.

Bam!

Smacking his forehead against mine, I felt the pain, almost like a rock, but I shrugged it off. The physical and mental training that I went through felt much worse.

Much more.

"Well." He started backing away, turning his head around to the exit, "I guess he is strong after all."

"What…" Emilia awoke from her slumber. "What's going on?"

I'm standing, while, I believe his name was Renji, began leaving the cabin, without greeting Vly.

"Well, Emilia." I smiled. "It's time for us to leave."

I found it quite disrespectful that Renji didn't decide to greet Vly.

I'll go ask Vly, while Emilia gets herself ready.

"Hey Vly…" I paused as I shifted my attention towards Renji, opening the door. "Why didn't he greet you?"

"Oh, him…" She let off a little giggle, "He doesn't greet until after the mission is complete."

If that's part of his personality, who am I to judge? But I want to view this royal capital already.

Click!

Smack!

He pushed the door open, the night sky oozing inside, as Emilia started to get up from her chair, Vly placed her hands out.

"Here is your outfit, Emilia already has hers on, so go, get ready quickly." She took a deep breath, "He was supposed to come by tomorrow morning, I guess he's too eager. He's eighteen, you teenajers should get a long."

I took the police outfit, held it in between my waist and arm, "Thank you Vly." I said, in a heartfelt voice, "I'll come back to learn about the other two techniques."

She's smiling, I know I see Vly Vanesca smiling, "Go!" Yeah, my brain was playing tricks on me, "Go before I smack you on your head!"

Typical Vly. I guess I'll just pop on this Policeman outfit when I arrive. Also, how about Emilia. She's unaware of what's going on… isn't she?

"Hey, Emilia." I turned back, but she was already at the front door, Renji waiting just outside.

"Hey, Chris." Emilia paused, looking at me. "I've already been informed before you, let's go, silly."

Of course she did, and of course she's already a step ahead of me.

I slightly jogged to the exit, ready to make my leave. But wait… Vly… a tear, yes, a tear just flowed down her face. "Don't miss me!" I screamed towards her, giggling slightly after.

"Why would I ever miss you, you old fart! Just don't die or I'll kill you myself!"

Quite ironic, the woman who's two hundred years old calling me the old one. Guess emotions really hit when they matter.

Emilia led the way, outside. I grabbed on the door handle, slightly opening it wide as I put my slides on, still surprised how they have slippers in a fantasy world.

As I fully stepped outside, I just saw myself, Renji and Emilia.

Bam!

I slammed the door shut, as I was the last one to come out.

And there goes my one and only mentor, a true sensei until the end. But time for a new arc to start, let me think of a name.

"Hey." Emilia calmly walked up to Renji. "How are we going to get there?" She asked.

"Watch this." Renji lifted one of his hands upwards, his fingers reaching the same level, maybe a quarter of a foot away from his face.

Emilia, just as myself, started to stare at him intensely.

He circled his fist, making a slight hole in it, bringing it towards his mouth.

The wind swifting, moon and stars shining, leaves from trees falling, bushes tangling, as he stood there, still nothing… still silent.

"Koru…" He paused. I could've sworn he blew through that whole, "Contract procedure number one: Awaken."

He finished. As the winds started to get heavier, me and Emilia tried to hold our balance on the ground, while Renji simply stood there. His coat was shaking from left and right, but he just stood there. . .

Mother fucker, aura farming so much for no reason.

Wind started swirling up in a tornado just in front of him, as something started to appear from thin air.

So this is it… What Vly called. A-

"Well, guys…" He paused, cutting my thought, "This is a Koru. My Koru, to be exact."

The Koru was black, very black, and even almost a shadow. Amethyst streaks glowed by the underbelly, all to the neck, more night than nightlight.

It's big, really, large enough for three people to ride. I became less inclined to call the bird "a giant monster of terror and night." Instead, I whispered: "sturdy black wagon with wings."

Its feathers were smooth and glossy, catching faint purple lights when the moon hit. The beak was hooked and sharp, and its eyes glowed soft violets. A peaceful bird, a peaceful life. Four strong claws on each foot grip tight when it lands, and to keep that peace too.

I started walking up towards Renji, "Hey, dickface."

"Wait, what did you call me-"

"You heard me," I cut him off, "So, we're going to be hopping on this thing?" I asked, smiling while now placing my hand onto his shoulder.

He slowly began to drag my hand downwards, aggressively, "Thing?!" He screamed, looking at me, "Koru is my beloved demonic pet who I love so much, fights battles with me, we venture dungeons together, we even…" He paused, snorting emotionally, "Bathe together!"

How does an oversized bird even fit inside of a shower, unless he can either change its size or bathe in the ocean. And just like that, every nonchalant master has their weaknesses. And I found his, now, finally I can use something against this guy.

"Yap, yap, yap. We get it, you have romantic relations with your pet." I said, walking to the front of the bird, looking at his Koru intensely. "Let's go, I'm too eager to wait."

But now, I knew what to call this arc.

This new beginning…

I stared at the bird more viciously than ever, while the Koru finally placed his attention towards me, "Let's call this… my royal glory."

Yeah, I'm so good at naming.
