Chapter 44 - Hydra's Usual Tactic: Blowing Up Their Own Base

While Hashirama Senju and the others were adventuring in Hell, Tony Stark and the others were also fighting hard as they stormed the Hydra base.

In the base's monitoring room, two or three dozen people were staring at the screens that covered three walls, monitoring every corner of the base and giving real-time instructions to the personnel within.

"Targets have been identified. Initiate the 'Fire Man' capture plan. All departments, execute the original plan."

A man in a black suit, who appeared to be part of the management, sneered as he looked at the screen showing Steve Rogers.

A month had passed since Steve Rogers first attacked the Hydra base. Hydra had long since formulated a perfect plan to capture the ignorant mutant who dared to impersonate Captain America and repeatedly provoke the mighty Hydra.

"Understood."

"Understood."

The replies crackled over the comms, and various departments immediately mobilized, heading towards the weapons storage. However, before they could get far, the voice of the commanding officer crackled through the headsets again.

"Situation has changed."

The base commander in the monitoring room stared intently at the display screen, watching the middle-aged man advancing deeper into the base alongside Fire Man. Although he was considered a mid-level figure within Hydra, he wasn't aware of the Winter Soldier, Bucky's, existence.

Therefore, the reason he was fixated on Bucky wasn't because he'd discovered his identity, but because he was captivated by Bucky's abilities.

On the monitor, the burly middle-aged man's right arm was encased in thick ice, its edges glinting with a chilling light. He ignored the barrage of gunfire, which simply turned him into a sieve of shattered ice, only to reform and continue his fearless advance.

Could this be a similar ability user to Fire Man?!

The base commander was startled. Then, he shifted his gaze to the other surveillance screens.

In five different views, identical-looking Armored Men were sprinting at high speeds, their movements far exceeding the limits of human reaction and incredibly complex. They frequently utilized walls and ceilings to move, making it impossible for the base's combat personnel to effectively target them.

Looking at the enemy, they charged into the crowd at high speed, directly knocking some people away, and then used their powerful strength to deal with the rest. Even if they were hit by a shot or two, it didn't matter much; the Kamen Rider's surface armor was enough to defend against ordinary firearms.

The remaining image showed the presence of an Armored Man and an Iron Man.

The Iron Man was about two and a half meters tall, with a shoulder width of over one meter. Six mechanical arms were embedded on its back, with the tips of the arms being gun barrels, cannons, and laser cutters, respectively. Its firepower was quite fierce, and its defense was also particularly strong.

The Armored Man, who was acting with the Iron Man, hadn't made a move yet. There was no intelligence, but judging by its appearance, it was similar to other Armored Men. High-speed movement and great strength were likely.

'Seven Iron Men, two elemental ability users.'

'I feel like…'

The base commander's eyelids jumped. He covered his chest with his right hand, and his heartbeat was slowly accelerating. Although he was a little panicked, he still gave orders in a calm tone: "…Modify…"

"The number of enemies invading the base is large, and their strength is strong. First, we will divide them, and then we will deal with them in a targeted manner."

"Units One and Two, guide the intruders to the target location. Units Three and Four, escort the researchers to the emergency exits. The remaining troops, change your equipment and await further orders."

With the order given, the various departments sprang into action once more.

Units One and Two, armed with submachine guns and a few grenades, flashbangs, and smoke grenades, followed the instructions from their comrades in the monitoring room, heading toward the intruders wreaking havoc throughout the base.

After two instances of the base being breached, Hydra had revised its evacuation plan, speeding up the researchers' retreat.

At the same time, Steve Rogers and his team, the invaders, noticed the change in the enemy's tactics.

"The resistance has lessened." Steve Rogers could clearly sense that the Hydra soldiers attempting to stop them were rapidly dwindling.

Were they preparing to flee, or was it a trap?

As a veteran of the battlefield and someone well-versed in Hydra's methods, Steve immediately considered these two possibilities.

Either Hydra intended to retreat and detonate the base, which would be great if it killed the intruders. If not, it didn't matter, the base was gone anyway. Whatever the intruders' purpose for invading the base was, the goal was to stop them from achieving it.

As for the base... using funds diverted from S.H.I.E.L.D., it wasn't a big deal to rebuild.

Or, there was a trap inside the base designed for them, and the enemy wanted to lure them in.

In either case, Steve was unafraid. He could escape into Boss Mu's shop with a single thought. If they fell into a trap, they could just slip away.

Thinking this, Steve gestured to Bucky and took the lead, chasing after the enemy.

On the other side, Hydra soldiers used grenades to attract the Armored Man's attention, then used flashbangs and smoke grenades to hinder his pursuit.

Unfortunately, flashbangs and smoke grenades had no effect on the robot. Relying on heat source perception and infrared scanning skills, the Hydra soldiers in charge of luring the enemy suffered heavy losses.

Tony Stark and Ethan completely ignored the Hydra soldiers luring them. They attacked when they saw them and dodged grenades, wandering around on their own.

Over time, the command center gave up on luring the two into the ambush, deciding to deal with the others first.

Steve and Bucky chased the enemies deeper into the base, but they still encountered very few of them, and there weren't any decent attacks either.

This Hydra commander is no good!

The intention to lure them in was too obvious. I don't even know if I should keep acting along.

Steve's expression was very stiff, and Bucky's expression was speechless. They both wanted to quit acting, but they thought they had been acting along for so long, they should see it through to the end.

So, the two continued to cooperate with the performance, chasing the enemies, until Steve ran into a room. The iron door slammed shut, separating Bucky outside.

Inside the room, three Hydra soldiers stopped fleeing, shouting "Hail Hydra" and charging towards Steve as if they were ready to die. At the same time, white gas began to spew from the walls.

Feeling the chill, Steve Rogers ignored the attacks of the three and instantly understood the enemy's plan.

Having quickly dealt with three enemies, Steve began to look around the room, thinking of a way to escape his predicament.

Outside, Bucky effortlessly took down three Hydra soldiers armed with flamethrowers. He then turned his gaze towards the alloy door, pondering how to rescue Steve, who was being held captive.

Unable to come up with a solution, he decided to privately contact Tony Stark for support.

Upon receiving the message, Tony immediately rushed to Bucky's location and instructed Ethan to use a laser cutter to open the door.

Seeing his crude plan about to fail, the base commander in the control room immediately ordered soldiers to place timed bombs throughout the base. As for himself…

The best strategy was to run.

Gotta go!
