Chapter 45 - Bucky: Steve, Go to Hell for a While First

In the simple thought process of the Hydra base commander, the principle of war was straightforward: win if you can, and if you can't, prevent the enemy from achieving their goal. Although he didn't know what the enemy's goal was, blowing up the base was always a good option, ensuring all traces were erased.

With a sliver of hope, perhaps he could even blow up the intruders.

Clinging to this expectation, the base commander was in the midst of a spectacular escape…

Inside the base, the Humanoid Automaton knights wandering around repeatedly encountered Hydra soldiers laying mines everywhere.

Humanoid Automaton sees ≈ Tony Stark sees.

Laying mines everywhere, are they planning to blow up the base?

Tony Stark raised his right hand, stroking his metallic chin, producing a 'creak, creak' sound of metal friction.

Dismantling bombs?

Five Humanoid Automatons, unknown number of bombs, the bombs are timed explosives, and there's a high probability they have remote detonation devices.

Simply put...

Too many, can't dismantle them all, goodbye!

Three-step escape.

"Have you rescued Steve?" Since they'd decided to run, efficiency was key. Tony immediately inquired about Steve's rescue progress.

"Still needs some time..." Ethan replied.

"Bucky, tell Steve to hide in Boss Mu's shop. Hydra is planting bombs everywhere. We're retreating first." Tony turned and led the way down the passage.

Ethan immediately stopped what he was doing and followed Tony. Bucky sent a message to Steve while keeping pace behind them.

Having a teammate with elemental abilities made selling things incredibly convenient. There was no psychological pressure whatsoever. Even if the base collapsed, the teammate could emerge from the rubble unscathed.

"Let's pick up some tech products to exchange while we're at it,"

Tony Stark said to his two teammates, adhering to the principle of not letting the trip go to waste. He also directed the Humanoid Automaton to move tech products towards the base entrance while guarding it, preventing the enemy from destroying the entrance and trapping them inside.

At the base's exit, a large number of vehicles were neatly lined up. Most of the remaining members of the base had gathered there, orderly boarding them one by one.

Having experienced the base being breached twice, Hydra's other bases naturally designed countermeasures. Therefore, the efficiency of the base members' retreat was very high.

After most of the members had evacuated the base, the base commander, sitting in a pure black SUV, pressed the detonation button.

As for the soldiers still remaining in the base, they were merely expendable, easily replaced. They weren't valuable research personnel, so there was no need to care about them.

Following the activation of the detonation button, the bombs located throughout the base began to detonate one after another. Intense flames surged through the corridors in all directions. The surging airwaves were like powerful ocean waves, one after another, relentlessly impacting the surrounding walls and glass.

Glass shattered, walls collapsed, and support pillars snapped. A series of tremors followed, and terrifying cracks rapidly spread.

At the base's exit, everyone had boarded the vehicles. Amidst the violently shaking ground, the vehicles started, their engines roaring. A long convoy drove across the desolate wilderness, kicking up clouds of dust as it sped away.

At the base's entrance, Tony Stark and the others stared at the depression left by the collapsed ground.

"Can Steve get out of there?" Ethan asked, a little worried.

Bucky's tone was uncertain, "He should be able to, right? Steve can turn into a fire drill and come out."

Tony Stark was calm, "But don't forget, earth can put out fire."

Steve won't be suffocated to death, will he? Bucky's scalp tingled.

If the famous Captain America died from being betrayed by his teammates, buried in the ruins and suffocated, that would be too messed up!

"Contact Steve, tell him the situation outside, and have him try to dig his way out from underground," Tony Stark commanded.

Bucky contacted Steve while simultaneously asking Tony Stark, "What if Steve can't get out from down there?"

Tony Stark looked at Bucky speechlessly, his expression making Bucky feel like an idiot.

"If he can't get out, then we'll have to find a way. We'll just buy three excavators and slowly dig him out."

Tony Stark felt quite unlucky.

After the team was formed, their first planned operation went poorly. Not only did they not earn much money, but they might also have to spend some to buy excavators later.

Speaking of which, how does one operate an excavator?

A scientist's mind is always full of leaps. One second he was lamenting the bad start, and the next he was pondering how to operate an excavator.

To be honest, that was indeed a problem.

Tony Stark considered himself to have a wealth of driving experience. The vehicles he'd piloted included, but weren't limited to, various sports cars, motorcycles, helicopters, and the Iron Man suit...

However, he'd never driven an excavator...

"Do either of you know how to drive an excavator?" Tony asked Bucky and Ethan.

Bucky was confident in his ability to pilot helicopters, transport planes, and fighter jets, but an excavator...

"No." Bucky didn't even look up, staring at the virtual screen projecting the message, quietly waiting for Steve's reply.

He only knew what an excavator looked like.

"No." Ethan followed suit.

He was something of a scientist, and he'd had neither the need nor the opportunity to learn how to drive an excavator.

Very good! Excellent!

Tony couldn't help but want to applaud. Luckily, he'd brought the Humanoid Automaton this time. Otherwise, it would have either cost money or taken a long time to learn.

While he was speaking, Steve had already tried once, failing to get out and retreating back into the shop.

"Steve, go play in Hell for a while. When we've dug a tunnel with the excavator, you can come out again."

Steve: "..."

The more he looked at the words in front of him, the more wrong he felt. He had the feeling that Bucky and the others wanted to dig all the way to Hell to rescue him.

Shaking his head, Steve activated the teleportation function. After a 120-second countdown, Steve arrived at the camp inside Hell.

There were quite a few people in the camp at this moment.

At the main entrance, a black-haired middle-aged man and a blonde young man were speaking seriously to a black-haired youth and a blonde youth, both of whom were hanging their heads.

The rest of the people were gathered in front of the shop.

Steve walked towards the shop; a crowd would make it easier to get information.

Just as he approached the shop, ready to casually ask someone for information, he heard voices coming from inside.

"Boss Mu, why can Chakra eliminate Wandering Souls, but Five Elements Release can't?"

"Chakra is a mixture of life energy and spiritual energy, and life energy counters Wandering Souls. However, Five Elements Release has already been converted from pure Chakra into other properties, and Wandering Souls are immune to physical attacks and some elemental attacks."

"Speaking of Wandering Souls, if you exchange for a Talisman, the Wandering Souls won't attack you anymore. One Talisman costs 500 gold."

"Why didn't you say so earlier?"

"I told you, you wouldn't necessarily appreciate it! Only after experiencing the endless harassment of the Wandering Souls will you understand how precious a talisman to dispel them is. Only then will you know it's worth the price, and you'll be willing to buy it."

"You're absolutely right!"

Tsunade, whose arms ached from fighting the Wandering Souls, along with the others who were dizzy and had throbbing headaches from the attacks, gritted their teeth.
