Chapter 28 - Chapter 28 – You Look Like You Just Got Beaten Pretty Badly

Damn it!

A furious curse echoed through the void.

"I hate this taste!"

Clatter—

The five chains binding Bibi Dong all tightened at once, forcefully severing the consciousness she had just managed to stir.

From the darkness, two scarlet eyes, huge like lanterns, slowly emerged.

Those blood-red pupils, narrow and cold as blades, gleamed with a deathly chill as though the gaze of an abyssal reaper had locked onto Bibi Dong.

"Bastard!"

Suddenly, those scarlet eyes trembled, their glare lifting toward the darkness above. A voice filled with venom and rage shook Bibi Dong's entire spiritual world.

"That disgusting aura again… this time, it really was close!"

Just then—

From the depths of the endless dark sky, a speck of light appeared. It grew brighter… and brighter… until it burst forth like a rising sun, flooding Bibi Dong's spiritual world with blazing radiance.

The blood-colored chains hissed as though corroded, releasing her and retreating into nothingness.

Even those scarlet eyes vanished without a trace.

In the outside world—

The oppressive Rakshasa Domain around Bibi Dong completely dissipated, leaving only the chaotic energy of Qian Xunji struggling violently within her body.

Gold, purple, and green streams of spirit power clashed and devoured one another. Without the Rakshasa's will suppressing it, Qian Xunji's remnant power now raged unrestrained, driving Bibi Dong into unbearable torment.

After all, Qian Xunji had once been a peak-level Douluo at rank 95. Though Tang Hao had grievously wounded him, leaving barely sixty to seventy percent of his power, the spiritual might of a peak Douluo was nothing Bibi Dong could easily refine.

What's more, the Rakshasa's will had only moments ago devoured much of his strength as fodder. Yet even the remnants were beyond Bibi Dong's ability to completely absorb.

"From here on, it's up to you."

Su Linfeng sat quietly at her side, just as she had once stood guard over him.

"This trial won't be easy… and the next will be even harder."

He raised his head, eyes turning toward the Wuhun Hall at the front of the mountain.

Though it was already deep into the night, the entire hall was still brightly lit.

With Qian Xunji's death, the forbidden barrier vanished. The Angelic Holy Idol dimmed, and even the Sacrifice Hall—usually dark at night—now bustled with shadows of people.

If Qian Xunji had fallen, then surely Qian Daoliu must have sensed it.

Even if he didn't know of the forbidden ground, he could easily trace the remnants of Qian Xunji's aura here. It was only a matter of time.

"Hm?"

Suddenly, Su Linfeng's eyes narrowed in surprise. He turned sharply to Bibi Dong.

"Her aura… is it stabilizing?"

"How can this be?"

And then—

His pupils constricted. Around Bibi Dong's body, black currents began to rise, suppressing Qian Xunji's berserk energy.

"The Rakshasa's will has returned? No… wait."

That wasn't Rakshasa energy.

It was pure evil—evil without a trace of Rakshasa's bloody taint!

Su Linfeng's heart raced. Could it be that the cunning God of Evil had acknowledged Bibi Dong?

Yet just as he felt a spark of joy, that pure evil aura abruptly vanished, suppressing Qian Xunji's energy in a single instant before disappearing like smoke.

"What's going on…?"

Su Linfeng muttered in confusion. "Did I guess wrong?"

Indeed—

He could no longer sense that evil aura at all. It was like a fleeting illusion, gone without a trace.

She must not have fully gained his recognition yet.

After a moment of thought, Su Linfeng concluded. Since the Rakshasa's will still lingered within her, she could not have completely broken free, and thus could not fully obtain the God of Evil's acknowledgment.

That fleeting assistance was no more than a whim.

Still, there was hope.

The God of Evil believed that all humans bore the Seven Emotions and Six Desires. Under different desires, their responses shifted, and in the face of overwhelming desire, emotions alone meant nothing.

Just moments ago, Bibi Dong had killed Qian Xunji to protect him. Even under the Rakshasa's control, her unwavering attachment to Su Linfeng kept her from yielding. Surely, that stirred the God of Evil's compassion.

As long as she could refine and purge the Rakshasa's will, another chance would surely come.

Seeing her aura gradually settle, Su Linfeng finally rose and headed to the lake. Whatever was coming from the Sacrifice Hall—he'd simply face it when it came.

At the lake, he bathed quickly, then caught two Jade Dragon Carp to roast over the fire.

Now, all he could do was wait for Bibi Dong to awaken.

It didn't take long.

Near midnight, Bibi Dong finally stirred.

"Lin Feng!"

The moment she opened her eyes, her first thought was to search for him.

When she spotted his familiar figure not far away, tending a fire and roasting fish, her tightly strung nerves finally relaxed.

He's safe!

As that realization sank in, Bibi Dong slumped like a deflated balloon.

She had killed Qian Xunji. Truly killed him. It was over.

Her gaze grew dazed, thoughts drifting.

Su Linfeng smiled faintly, trying to suppress his amusement as he turned the fish on the fire.

"What are you laughing at?"

Bibi Dong's brows knit, her icy demeanor returning.

"Elder Sister," Su Linfeng said, lips twitching, "you… kind of looked like you got beaten pretty badly just now."

"You little brat!"

She snorted coldly, wiping the blood from her lips, glaring at him with frosty eyes.

"You think that's funny?"

Uh—

Not funny!

Su Linfeng quickly shut his mouth, though inside he couldn't help but think it was.

Her temper was as sharp as ever—one line was enough to silence him completely.

Why's she mad again?

Feeling awkward, Bibi Dong turned away and headed into the courtyard. In her current state, she really did look a bit pitiful, and it irked her to appear so weak before that little brat.

After a quick wash, she changed clothes and sat in her room, dazed.

Just then—

Su Linfeng walked in carrying the roasted fish. Without a word, he placed the larger one before her.

"I'm not eating."

Bibi Dong didn't even look at it. She huffed coldly, "Take it away."

Why's she still so prickly?

"If you eat, you won't overthink."

He left the fish there as he turned away. "When I was little and starving, when you weren't around, Big Sister always roasted fish for me."

The words fell softly.

Bibi Dong's body trembled. She stared blankly at the roasted fish before her.

Yes…

She had gone to the City of Slaughter for three years, leaving those two children behind. She didn't even know how they had survived.

Was it guilt? Or self-blame?

In the end, she picked up the fish, slowly bringing it to her lips, chewing bit by bit.

"Don't dwell on it."

Su Linfeng finished his fish in just a few bites, then wiped his mouth.

"What's done is done. Face it head-on. Worst case, I'll face it with you."

With that—

He flopped onto the bed, sprawling out with a long sigh of relief.

Bibi Dong shuddered, glancing at him.

What?

Could she be touched by him? Su Linfeng felt a hint of pride.

"Get down."

But her next words crushed him instantly.

Go wash up, or you're not sleeping in here tonight.
