Chapter 15 - Ray’s Rising Influence: The Inventor’s Path Begins

It has been three days since Ray created his first wristwatch device for communication. Ray gifted the wristwatch to Selene and Angelina. They were both really happy. Now they could communicate with each other whenever there was a need.

Angelina would call just to enjoy the toy she received from Ray. She would call her mother and Ray constantly. Finally, Ray had to create a silence system in the end. This helped both Ray and Selene. When they were busy, they would keep the device on silent and call back Angelina later to make her happy.

Ray also gave his wristwatch to Aunt Mary. She didn't want it since she was always beside Ray. But Ray gave it to her anyway and told her not to show it to anyone. It almost got her into trouble, so she returned it to him. Ray could only accept.

He took it back and thought of giving it to his mother, and she happily accepted it. She has four personal Black Guards who have protected her since she was young. She gave the remaining four wristwatches to her personal guards and planned to give the last one to her father.

After hearing what happened with Aunt Mary, Ray made sure to add a security system—requiring a drop of blood to bind the device to its master. He had upgraded it in the past three days. So even if someone stole it, the watch would not work for anyone else. And if someone tried to open it, it would automatically explode, ensuring that no one could uncover its secrets.

In these past three days, he had been cultivating soul techniques related to talismans and formations. Then he would sleep. He would be awakened by Aunt Mary and forced to train in swordsmanship under Ken. He would learn formation techniques and talk a lot with his mother. They became the best of friends.

Sometimes he would go to Selene and learn talisman techniques. She had become even gentler with Ray after receiving gifts and slowly getting to know him. Lastly, he would try to modify his wristwatch every now and then.

Today was the day he had to go visit his maternal grandparents with his mother. So Diana and Ray prepared some gifts and stored them in his mother's storage ring. He became envious of his mother's storage ring. She explained that he needed spiritual energy to use such a ring. Ray tried to invent his own storage ring using soul energy, but it was useless.

While traveling in a chariot, Diana asked, "Did your world have any better ride than this?"

Hearing the question, Ray gave her a look, as if looking at a country bumpkin. Diana had seen this look so many times that before he could say anything, she gave him a chop on the head.

Ray then said, "This carriage is quite strong, and the wild beasts pulling it are also strong. They're quite fast as well. They must be going at least 80 km/h. But that's not fast enough. There are cars and other vehicles in my world that are 3 to 4 times faster than this."

Diana replied, "These are just normal beasts. If we used stronger ones, you would think your world's vehicles are slow."

Ray said, "That's possible. In my world, there is no such thing as magic or growing stronger using it. I mean, imagine—you can teleport using formations. That's cheating."

Diana chuckled, understanding his point. He was only speaking from the perspective of invention and technology, so she enjoyed seeing Ray's dark expressions.

Ray then said, "Now that I'm in this world and have memories from my past world, I'm going to change everything here. Mother, I need to meet all kinds of inventors. Please introduce me to them. I heard they are not the king's men—they prefer to work individually."

Diana chuckled at her son and then said, "We're here. Let's go."

After getting down from the chariot, they saw both grandparents waiting for them. Seeing his grandmother, who dotes on him the most, Ray ran toward her shouting, "Grandmother!" His grandmother, gentle and kind, was currently wearing a simple white dress. His grandfather, who was waiting for a hug, looked gentle on the outside but had fire on the inside. He was wearing a white shirt and black pants.

His grandmother is an alchemist, second only to the Montclair leader. His grandfather is a formation master, the top in the kingdom. He also holds the title of Marquess.

As they were about to enter, they saw a huge door labeled "Spencer Family." In the family, Diana has three elder brothers and two elder sisters—Diana is the youngest. Suddenly, it turned into a reunion, as all the sisters arrived with their children as well. Their husbands were not present since they were busy with work.

After entering, they had a feast. Everyone was enjoying the food when a servant came and interrupted their fun by saying, "An honored guest—your best friend Rick—has come."

Hearing that, Grandfather told the servant to invite Rick to the feast as well. The servant went out to bring him in.

Rick entered with a smile and said, "How do you eat so much and still remain thin, William?"

Grandfather smiled and replied, "I work out a lot. So what brings you here?"

Rick said with a teasing smile, "I've come to see my snotty childhood friend after years, and this is how you invite me?" Rick didn't care about the formal invitation. He took a seat at the table and began digging into the food.

William chuckled and said, "Do I need to invite you? You already invited yourself."

Diana, watching from the side, said, "This is one of the greatest inventors in this world. He is the inventor of the flying weapon and teleportation formation. He also has his own pride. He's not controlled by anyone. It's said he's trying to create a flying transportation vehicle for travel."

Ray gave the biggest, most evil smile he could. Diana felt a chill seeing that. She thought Ray was giving Rick the same "country bumpkin" look—with that evil grin. Seeing that, Diana chuckled. She hoped Ray wouldn't do the same with Rick.

Ray already had a few plans on how to make such air transportation—but why would he give those ideas away for free? He needed a share in this. But to get there, he needed to join the conversation. Maybe through Rick, he could meet other inventors as well.

Rick might be able to create a flying vehicle in a day—or in hundreds or even thousands of years—or maybe never. With Ray's help, he might achieve it faster.

Ray then asked for the wristwatch that his mother planned to give to her father. Ray then spoke a bit loudly, "Grandfather, I've invented something. Do you want to have it?"

William, who was enjoying his conversation with Rick, shifted his gaze to Ray and said, "What is it?"

Ray then walked over and brought the wristwatch to his grandfather, asking him to drop a bit of blood on it. William did as he was told, and then Ray strapped the wristwatch on his grandfather's arm. Then he explained all the functions to him.

At first, William chuckled, but then his eyes widened—because this invention was huge. It worked.

Seeing that it worked, even Rick became interested in getting one. But Ray said that was the last one. He had already given the rest to his closest people.

Rick got frustrated and asked if Ray could make more. Ray said the tower he created that allows the device to work only functions by luck, and the tower has a limit of connecting with 10 wristwatches only. He didn't know how to make another one. Ray half-lied, since his soul could only create one tower that is connected to him.

Rick pestered William to give the device to him, but William was definitely not giving it away. They fought for a while until Ray explained that it wouldn't work for others anymore. Since William had dropped blood on it, it was bound to him. Only he could use it. If someone killed his grandfather and tried to use it, it still wouldn't work. If anyone tried to open it, the device would self-destruct.

Hearing that, Rick finally gave up. He then told Ray that if he managed to make another one, Ray should give it to him. Ray replied, "It won't be for free."

To which Rick said, "I'm willing to pay."

Ray then said, "I heard you want to make flying transportation for people. I have some ideas that could help you. But for that, you'll need to invite me to your shop."
