Silver stared at the dress hanging on her closet door and wondered if it was too late to fake food poisoning.
The Winter Athletics Gala wasn't optional. Not really. Not when Americus had personally texted her three times with increasingly threatening messages about attendance. Not when the figure skating club was expected to show up in force to justify their budget allocation for next semester. Not when avoiding it would make her look like a coward.
Still. Food poisoning was sounding better by the minute.
"You have to go," Maya said from her position on Silver's bed, where she was doing absolutely nothing helpful. "Americus will literally hunt you down."
"She can try."
"She will succeed. Have you met her?" Maya scrolled through her phone. "Besides, it's at the Lawn Club. Free food, open bar for the over-21s, and I heard they're bringing in that DJ from the Spring Fling last year."
"Thrilling."
