Chapter 8 - Chapter 8 Magic is not easy

"Is that enough?"

George took out a bulging cloth bag, which contained more than four hundred Galleons.

He chose such a large owl mainly for two reasons.

Firstly, an owl of this size already possesses considerable offensive capabilities, which could provide him with significant help if he truly encounters danger.

Secondly, he valued its flying ability. If a normal magic owl can carry more than ten pounds, then an owl this large should be able to carry over a hundred pounds without issue, right?

If he encounters trouble and can't win in the future, he can also let the owl carry him away. It's not just a pet; it can also serve as a flying mount. Why choose anything else?

"Since you are sure, then of course there is no problem."

As soon as the clerk saw that George was genuinely rich and not joking, he immediately enthusiastically helped George move the eagle owl onto the cart, fearing George might change his mind.

This owl eats a lot every day; if no Wizard came to buy it, they would lose money.

With the pet bought, George then arrived at the last and most important store, Flourish and Blotts.

Today, he not only needed to buy all the first-year textbooks but also many other magic books, especially those concerning wandless casting.

Because if he couldn't learn wandless casting, then his main body in the Marvel World wouldn't be able to properly utilize his magic abilities before making a magic wand.

Today is August 3rd, eighteen days before Gilderoy Lockhart's book signing at Flourish and Blotts, so there weren't too many people in the bookstore, and finding books was relatively simpler; he could just ask the clerk directly.

"Wandless casting? Those kinds of books stopped selling a long time ago. Nowadays, everyone uses wands. Who would still learn such an outdated casting method?"

The clerk shook his head.

George did not give up on this and continued:

"I am very interested in that outdated casting method. I wonder if you can help me find a copy?

I can pay extra!"

To show his sincerity, he first took out twenty Galleons.

The clerk hesitated upon seeing this, then held out four fingers:

"It requires a special order, and the cost is very high, forty Galleons."

"No problem."

George directly took out forty Galleons and placed them on the table.

He knew he was definitely being overcharged, but as long as he could get the magic book on wandless casting, let alone forty, he would pay four hundred Galleons.

"Three days, it will definitely arrive within three days."

The clerk immediately smiled and accepted the forty Galleons upon seeing this.

"Then I'll pick it up in three days."

After another round of browsing and paying the marked Galleons, George, pushing a fully loaded cart and humming an unknown tune, began to return to the Potion shop in Knockturn Alley, preparing to self-study magic.

On the way back, the huge and conspicuous eagle owl attracted many curious glances.

"Be good and don't make noise."

Upon arriving at the shop, he placed the eagle owl on the table in the bedroom, fed it a wild rabbit bought from the owl shop, and George instructed it, then began to organize the magic books he had just bought.

And that eagle owl, upon hearing George's words, actually nodded very obediently.

For ordinary young Wizards, eagle owls are too large to carry and are dangerous, making them unsuitable as pets.

But for George, it was different.

His body was even stronger than that of a normal adult, and though the eagle owl was large, it didn't pose a challenge to him.

As for danger, his psychic ability inherited from Professor X was only level two, having little effect on complex human minds, but it had a good effect on simple animals.

He could not only communicate with animals easily but also influence their behavior to a certain extent.

Sometimes George wondered, if he spent time on the study of magical creatures, he probably wouldn't be worse than Newt and Hagrid in the future and could also become a master of magical creatures.

"'Standard Book of Spells, Grade 1' and 'Magical Theory', let's study these two first."

He pulled out the two most important books from a pile of magic books and began to study them intently.

Currently, the most important thing is to master practical spells. As for other subjects like History of Magic, Herbology, and Potions, they can be put aside for now until the crisis of his Marvel main body is over.

He studied until evening.

"As expected, it's not that simple!"

Putting down the magic book, rubbing his somewhat dry eyes, George picked up the bread he had bought in Diagon Alley and began to munch on it.

When watching movies, it felt like Wizards could cast magic by just waving their wands, as if it were very simple.

But when actually learning it, he realized that successfully casting a spell was not that easy.

This is the same principle as cooking.

It looks like just a few steps, but when it's your turn, you're at a loss.

Even if the steps are the same, the taste varies.

According to the magic book, to successfully cast a spell, first, you must have Wizard Bloodline and magic, otherwise, even if all subsequent steps are correct, it will still be useless.

Secondly, there is the incantation. The incantation must be clearly enunciated, and different spells have different speeds, emotions, and other aspects. If they don't meet the standard, the magic effect will either be greatly weakened or simply not work.

There is also a very small possibility of producing some unexpected effects.

Finally, there is the wand movement. Waving the wand is not random; different spells have different trajectories when cast.

Of course, these are all for beginners.

If you truly thoroughly understand and master a spell, and even its fundamental principles have been deeply researched, then casting that magic wandless and non-verbally is not difficult.

Truly top-tier Wizards can instantly cast most magic wandless and non-verbally.

"Softening Charm, Severing Charm, Alohomora, Levitation Charm, Locking Charm, and Repairing Spell. Let's focus on learning Alohomora first."

After finishing the bread, George turned to the page in "Standard Book of Spells, Grade 1" that explained Alohomora.

The spells in the first-year textbook are the most basic and easiest to learn, and at the same time, they basically have no power.

Just like that Severing Charm, even if he learned it, at his level, he could at most cut a napkin or something; cutting a person probably wouldn't even break the skin.

Rather than that, it's better to learn Alohomora first, so that his Marvel Main Universe self can open the Mutant ability inhibitor bound around his neck, thereby exercising his abilities.

He can also open various high-tech doors in the experimental research lab and escape successfully.

If there is any extra time, it's not too late to learn some other spells.

Actually, he thought Deformation Curse should be more useful than Alohomora, especially against high-tech weapons. As long as one part can be destroyed, it can be rendered inoperable.

But after thinking carefully, he still gave up.

As a separate major category, Deformation Curse is definitely much harder to learn than other spells. Even a genius like Hermione couldn't learn it before school started. He didn't think he could learn it in a short time without guidance.

Even if he did learn it, the effect probably wouldn't be that significant, so there was no need to take the risk.
