Chapter 29 - The Race to Save Them

Amara's POV

The gunshot exploded through the basement.

I threw myself at Chairman Crain. The bullet missed my father by inches. It hit the wall behind him, sending chips of concrete flying.

"Stop!" I screamed, wrestling with Crain for the gun.

He was stronger than me. He pushed me away easily. I fell hard on the cold floor.

But Elijah was already moving. He tackled Crain from the side. They crashed into one of the machines.

Alarms started blaring. Warning lights flashed red.

"The equipment!" Marcus shouted. "You're damaging the life support!"

Crain shoved Elijah off him. He raised the gun again, pointing it at my father.

"This ends now," Crain said.

But before he could fire, my mother screamed again. The sound stopped everyone. It wasn't just fear in her voice. It was rage. Pure, burning rage.

She broke one arm free from the restraints. Her muscles must have been weak from eighteen years of not moving. But anger made her strong.

She reached for Crain.
