Starlight shimmered.
Brilliant stars rained down from above, illuminating the entire Indigo Plateau.
On this breezy, clear autumn night, tourists and competitors at Indigo Plateau were deep in their dreams. Only the League Headquarters still beamed with light—the region's bigwigs burning the midnight oil, huddled in groups around a replay of Silas and Gary's daytime battle. Not that anyone could ignore it: with a Legendary Pokémon involved, they had to take it seriously!
Speaker of Parliament's Office.
Shingen Oak, the Elite Four, and a crowd of family heads sat riveted before the screen on the wall, awe flickering across their faces. When they saw how Mewtwo shut down that giant vortex, they just sat there in utter shock. That kind of brute-force solution was just unreal.
Stopping a ten-meter-high twister with nothing but Confusion—how terrifying was this Mewtwo's mental power?
Once the footage rolled to an end, Lance immediately turned to Shingen Oak. "Shingen, I should've become your apprentice. Tell me how you raise kids like Silas and Gary—each one better than the last!"
"Get out." Shingen Oak rolled his eyes and ignored Lance's antics, focusing instead on Lorelei. "Lorelei, you traveled with Silas for a while. Did you know how he caught Mewtwo? Why didn't you report it to us at the time?"
Honest question. All eyes turned to Lorelei, and she could only give a wry smile. "Don't look at me. Ask Professor Oak. When I was traveling with Silas, his only Pokémon were Tyranitar, Charizard, Gastly, Dragonite, and Pikachu. There was no Mewtwo. I'm guessing he got it in the last two months."
Everyone's gaze shifted straight to Professor Oak, who nodded, confirming her account. "Yes, Silas caught Mewtwo recently. According to Silas, back then Mewtwo wasn't yet a true Legendary Pokémon—he only had the potential. So Silas ganged up on it with four other Legendary-level Pokémon before it achieved true Legendary status, and he managed to catch it that way."
Four Legendary-level Pokémon?!
There was so much hidden in Professor Oak's words that everyone drew a sharp breath… Back then, Mewtwo wasn't a real Legendary. But now? Even if still technically not considered a full Legendary Pokémon, it was absolutely Legendary-tier. Combined with Silas's four other Legendary-level Pokémon, that made five—on the belt of a ten-year-old!
Five Legendary-level Pokémon…
What did that even mean?
That was the definition of absolutely unbeatable!
Sure, the Pokémon League had seen a handful of Legendary-level Pokémon over its history, but no one had ever controlled five at once! But here was Silas, only ten years old, already wielding five—and one of them destined to become a true god among Legendaries.
When everyone processed this, their mouths went dry. Some of them had lived a whole lifetime without ever even seeing a Legendary-level Pokémon, let alone owning one! Next to Silas, it felt like their lives amounted to nothing more than that of a Growlithe.
"Shingen!" The room had gone silent when the Blackthorn clan's patriarch spoke up. He suggested, "Let's convene a League meeting! Lay all of Silas's abilities on the table. No one could possibly oppose his rise after that. He's probably the most powerful Trainer under the stars! If we mess this up and he storms off to Sinnoh to become Champion, we'd be the biggest joke in League history."
Valerius's words hit everyone hard. Sure, everyone cared about their own interests, but at the end of the day—they were Kanto people. Letting Silas get away would be a loss like nothing before. Still, no one liked the idea of giving up more clout, so they hesitated.
"Right!" Lance jumped in first, staring the crowd down. "I know everyone's worried about their own piece of the pie. But if Silas leaves—will you be able to face the citizens of this land? You want to go down in history as a disgrace? Besides, if Silas becomes Champion, Kanto will get more resources, not less!"
"Do it." Agatha nodded, her voice as icy as always. ""I'm about to retire. If we don't have this meeting, by then, not only will we not have a Champion, we won't even have the Elite Four. Then Kanto will never be able to hold its head up high again!"
With both Lance and Agatha taking the lead, everyone else fell in line.
When Shingen Oak saw how quickly everyone got on board, he allowed himself a faint smile. "There's one other thing to address: even if Silas rises to the top, it might be more in name than in duty. He'll step up when needed, but for daily operations, I'll need everyone to help carry the load."
This made several eyes light up.
What Shingen was really saying was: more power to spread around. And where there's power, there's always profit!
Sure, the Oak family and Silas would keep the big slice, but the crumbs were plenty enough for others. And with Shingen Oak's reputation, everyone was sure whatever they gave up now would come back to them double. Any lingering grumbles vanished; everyone showed their support:
"No problem! Silas just wants his freedom—chasing strength is a good thing. All the daily grind, let us handle it!"
"Agreed! Silas only needs to focus on getting stronger—the rest is what us old-timers are here for!"
"Relax! We watched that kid grow up. If we won't help him, who will?"
...
The next day.
Eight in the morning.
Silas had no idea about last night's events. Even if he had, he probably wouldn't have cared, since every bit of his attention was snared by the Top 64 list Lorelei had sent him that morning. The odds of an upset were slim, but curiosity made him tap it open anyway.
What he saw nearly floored him.
Sure, Professor Oak had warned him that the Kanto tournament would draw a crowd of top Trainers determined to block him. What he hadn't expected was that there were thirty-three such top Trainers, with five of them specially marked by Lorelei herself!
The first was named Conrad Stone, a scion of the Stone family—a clan new compared to the ancient Oaks, but they'd produced a regional Champion recently and were famous in Hoenn. Conrad himself was the little brother of Steven Stone!
This time, he'd come in with Metagross, Shiny Absol, Empoleon, Wailord, Aggron, and Blaziken!
These Pokémon's abilities ranged from Elite Four, Champion-tier, to even guardian deity-class. The Elite Fours were likely Conrad's own, the Champions probably Steven's, and that guardian, likely the Stone family's own Hoenn protector—borrowed for a shot at nabbing a Kanto guardian deity!
Second on the list was Kyouya, not the heir of any famous family but a notorious bounty hunter. If the money was right, nothing else mattered—not even the law. His Pokémon lineup: Gardevoir, Alakazam, Espeon, Lapras, Milotic, and Salamence; these ranged from Elite Four to Champions.
Third was Sasaki Ono, of Kanto's Sasaki family—a respected lineage, if not as ancient as the Oaks. The biological big brother of the famous James from the original story, and the Kanto tournament Champion six years ago. In the six years since, he'd swept top finishes in leagues all over—and was now an Elite Four candidate for Indigo!
His Pokémon: Arcanine, Gliscor, Metagross, Serperior, Milotic, Lucario. All fell between Elite Four and Champion-tier!
The fourth, Teppei, had no blueblood lineage, but trained under the same master as Bruno of Kanto's Elite Four. Teppei was the senior; Bruno, the junior. If not for Teppei's refusal to settle for anything but the Champion throne, Bruno wouldn't even be an Elite today!
His Pokémon included: Slaking, Machamp, Primeape, Hitmonchan, Mienfoo, and Snorlax. The weakest was peak Elite Four, the strongest—firmly mid-level Champion.
The last was a Trainer named Soma—his origins unknown, because his team was weirdly diverse: the Kanto trio of Legendary Birds, Hoenn's Walrein, Sinnoh's Froslass, and Glalie. All were Champion-tier!
Even scarier—Soma was the same age as Silas!
According to Lorelei's notes, Soma was probably the son of some powerful house, his team put together by two or three factions. Together they gave this Soma a full Champion squad, hoping he'd win, split the Kanto guardian deities, and launch Soma to fame!
Jackpot!
Gazing at all this, Silas's eyes literally sparkled, three words floating through his mind: Hit the jackpot! Most people would see these names as problems—but not Silas!
With his Elemental System, the more top Trainers showed up, the more crystals and gold he'd rake in. Beating all these guys might not net him two thousand pulls, but a thousand was a lock! And a thousand draws? That meant a shot at a Legendary! And even if not, just the Top-grade crystals would keep him loaded for ages!
Suzie, sitting across from him, jumped at the look of greedy excitement in Silas's eyes.
"Silas…" she asked hesitantly, worried, "are you all right?"
"I'm good." Silas shook his head, barely resisting the urge to call up Shingen Oak and beg him to add even more names to the blacklist. As calmly as he could, he said, "Just think the next round's going to be really fun."
"'Fun'?" Suzie was left confused.
"Yeah." Silas pushed the laptop over to her, grinning, "Take a look for yourself."
"So many top Trainers?!" Suzie gasped, taking in the names.
"Yup." Silas squinted, a confident smirk on his lips. "Told you—the rest of this Kanto tournament's gonna be super interesting."
"Do you think you'll win?" Suzie asked, still concerned.
"Duh!" Silas rolled his eyes, in such a good mood he even laid it on thick: "You know who you're following, right? A few Elite Fours or Champions? Please. Send them all at me—I'll flatten the whole League!"
"Really?!" Suzie's eyes sparkled, like she genuinely believed it.
For a second, Silas was speechless—he hadn't expected Suzie to trust him so much. He wanted to nod, but when he pictured five Champions and twenty-three Elite Fours, even he started to sweat. That many top Trainers… just the effort might kill him!
But seeing Suzie's eager, trusting gaze, Silas gave a mysterious little nod and said vaguely, "Probably… I guess… shouldn't be a problem, right?"
