Chapter 15:

Reilard Veilkerhurst could not help but be confounded by the reports he had received from his father. He had followed through with his obligatory correspondence with the head of Veilkerhurst and now he had to question if there was a possibility that maybe, just maybe, that the older man may be suffering some strange form of senility. Yes, he was the most powerful man in their world, but he was still just a man. even if he maintained his training and upkeep his health, he would continue to age. He could only keep at bay what have always befallen men such as him for centuries. That was a horrible part of aging, but it was to be expected.

"Wipe that look from your face," his father ordered him. He watched as his eldest schooled his features back into its usual blank stare. He still saw that his eyes was alight with concern. He knew that his eldest son would not easily believe such an outlandish tale. He himself had not put much stock behind it. That was until his beloved wife started to show actual concern about what was happening with the youngest. He was already planning on questioning the youngest about his new ploy. Then his daughter came to his office, bypassing the proper measures of request to inform him of her own worries. It did not end there. He had witnessed the some of the strangeness himself.

Once again, he has become witness to that strange display of anger by the youngest. He grew alarmed when he heard the sound of a whistle. The he saw the reported blur near his youngest son's face. He had gone up to the youngest Veilkerhurst, seeing him tremble in fright as he got closer. He was finally able to see the "magic sheet" clearly when he brought the child closer to his face, he could see more of the details clearly. He did not gave away how much suspicion he had felt when he saw the miniscule version of his portrait.

He saw the information of his physical attribute appear, one by one descending order with the categories that corresponded with them appeared to the right of the sheet. It was when the information faded and was slowly being replaced with information about the youngest Veilkerhurst that the child in question grew sick. Calling for a servant and covering the child with his coat, Vlaus could only stare at the vomit now decorating his carpet as his frustration increased. It was only for a moment, but he saw the words that had spread for a second across the youngest's information sheet.

Youngest Veilkerhurst fears his father. AP: -98%

It was not hard to gather that those words rang true. The youngest son of the Veilkerhurst family was terrified of his father. He would cower every time Vlaus would enter the room. At times preferring to deal with Brakus's explosive anger if it meant getting away from him. He volunteered to help his sister with her potions or would follow after his mother to her own tasks if it meant that he was still following the obligation of not wasting time at the Veilkerhurst castle. He would do anything to get away from him.

From the few minutes he had spent conversing with his eldest, and from his confused reaction, he was able to determine that he was not subject to this new magic. It may have to do with the distance he had with his family as he was a resident at the most powerfully guarded magic tower in their world.

The ability to manipulate mana.

A strange glowing square that held their information.

And now a fractured voice introducing itself to them as a system.

His family must be going through some kind of crises right now. Reilard did not know hw he would be able to get to the bottom of it. One thing that was certain was that he had to find a safe space for the youngest.

Summoning: Members of the Veilkerhurst family.

Maybe it was the fact that his father had already warned him about the strange occurrences as he was able to prevent any outward appearance of his alarm. That was not the only thing that was out of place. Somehow, his consciousness was slowly being ripped away from his body. The only thing he could compare it to was an astral projection of some kind. A difficult skill for many to accomplish as it makes one's physical body vulnerable to physical attacks. Reilard had never been as grateful for this accursed family's training as he was now. He had enough presence of a mind to move on autopilot, having enough control where he was able to guide his slowly stiffening body towards one of the seats in the lounge he had taken up residence in. He sat down a bit harder than usual, drawing some strange looks from his colleagues. Fortunately, the self-centeredness that was common from most mages caused them to turn back to their own business.

In a blink of an eye, he was forced into a mind space. All around him was darkness. No matter where he looked, he could not detect a source of light. But it did not feel like he had become blind. More like it had not been set up yet. He then heard a whoosh, prompting him to look to his right. He saw that the new visitor was his mother. Then his sister appeared. Next was Brakus, who tried to summon a mana sword. Only for the weapon to dissipate into nothing. The last person to appear was his father, the Head of the Veilkerhurst family. Wherever they were, it was something that could subdue his father and summon him against his will. And it had to do with his younger brother, the only member of the Veilkerhurst family to not be there.

They had to be on their guard.

The voice came into existence with ascending decibels. It was mostly monotone, but it was not hard to detect a hint of amusement. Reilard noticed from the corner of his eye how Priscilla reared back in shock. before she could say anything, the voice continued.

I will send you back to your proper places. There you will receive the proper information about your Affection Points.

Maybe this lifetime will prevent time from turning back.

"What do you mean, prevent time from turning back?" Reilard could feel his lips moving moving in the real world and sensed that many of the mages had turned to, once again, look at him. He felt his face flush and was grateful that he had enough control over his arm to wave off their concerns. he was not looking forward to gong back.

But the voice answered. Time has been reversed 76 times at the death of the youngest Veilkerhurst. It is to the point that it has caused rifts to appear and the disturbance has made the magic beast much more unhinged.

Nobody said anything. One they were unsure of how to answer the voice without appearing to look insane in the real world. Not only that, how were they to know if the voice was telling the truth about time being reversed?

I will send you back to your proper places, it repeated. I know how dangerous it would be for you to remain in this vulnerable state.

And with that, Reilard felt his consciousness slip out of the space with a pop! He looked around, seeing the concerned gazes of his fellow mages. He did not have the time to answer any of their inquiries. Instead, he made an announcements.

"I have to go home."
