Chapter 2 - Getting to know eachother?

As Nandini prepared for another potentially grueling day at the office, her mind swirled with doubts about her new working relationship. "The next day would be hard enough," she thought, "I don't know if we'll get along, but maybe I can manage." The uncertainty lingered as she rushed through her morning routine, hastily getting ready to leave.

Just as she was about to dash out the door, her mother intercepted her. "Where are you running off to without eating?" Nandini nervously laughed and apologized, "I'm sorry, Maa, I'm running late." Her mother handed her a lunch box. "At least take this," she said, and Nandini gratefully accepted it before hurrying out.

Upon arriving at the office, Nandini knocked on the door, and a cold yet soothing voice bid her enter. "I'm sorry for being late," she apologized. Vyom, her colleague or superior – she wasn't quite sure which – looked up, his expression unreadable, and merely hummed in response.

As they began the meeting, Nandini noticed Vyom's intense focus on his work. After the meeting concluded, as she was about to leave, Vyom called out her name, "Nandini Singh." She turned to face him, "Yes?" He murmured, "Nothing, take care," before returning his attention to a file. Nandini was left standing there, confused, wondering what to make of his enigmatic words.

Nandini, a 24-year-old woman with long hair and brown eyes, had achieved a great deal in her short career. Her brown skin glowed like gold in the sunlight, and she was undeniably beautiful. However, she had one insecurity – a small scar above her lip.

Vyom, on the other hand, was a man with a cold personality, known for his ruthless pursuit of revenge. His dark brown eyes seemed to bore into those he met, and his tall, handsome frame exuded an air of danger. He was like a spark of fire on a spicy tongue, leaving a lasting impression on those around him.

Despite their differences, fate seemed to have brought Nandini and Vyom together. As they navigated their working relationship, Nandini couldn't help but wonder what the future held for them.

As much as I was shocked, I was even more confused about his behavior. Our first meeting, our interaction, and all of his presence were hard to digest all at once. I sat down, put all my thoughts aside, and started working on the concerns of my place. The concerns of the people were my concerns too; the things they worried about were the things I needed to try my best to fix. And for a few hours, I gave it all my efforts and completed the file and the work.

I headed down the stairs when I saw my family at the dinner table; I went towards them and sat with them. I served myself, and the food healed my stress – the smell of it and the taste of the delicious dishes. "How's work going?" – a simple question that came from my dad. But what shocked me the most was that he tried to communicate with me, which was a rare thing, not as rare as him smiling. Maybe it's been years since I actually heard him laugh. "It's going good, but I hope that man will cooperate with me." I didn't want to take his name, but everyone knew at the dinner table who I was talking about. My dad hummed at my answer, and that was it – complete silence. My mother smiled at me a few times, and there were some random questions from my grandma, and that was the end of the day, but a good end because I loved the food and the unexpected question from Dad.

I woke up to the sound of heavy rain and wasn't surprised because I already knew the universe was ready to ruin my important days, and the fact is I couldn't even cry about it. I completed my morning routine and reached the meeting on time. In my imagination, cheerleaders were already cheering for me for reaching on time despite the stupid rain that came out of nowhere. The meeting went smoothly, not exactly as I imagined, but yes. I didn't make any mistakes, thankfully.

"So, about the file, here it is, sir," I moved the file on the table towards him. He looked at me, took the file, and started reading it. And he looked hot, genuinely hot while reading, but we aren't going there – please, no, I couldn't and didn't need to find someone from work hot. "Are you thinking of ways of how to make cows fly?" he said. "I have been calling your name for a while now, and you have been zoning out." My cheeks turned red from the embarrassing moment I caught myself in. I coughed before speaking, "Not really, I was just... thinking about lilies." No, not the dumb answer I gave just now.

"I think you worked nicely on the file, Miss Lilies admirer," he said. I smiled because the nickname sounded ridiculous, but he was definitely right – I did work hard. "Yes, thanks." A small smile appeared on his lips, which looked... amazing, maybe.
