Chapter 11 - 011. Eddie 2

"That question..." Eddie squinted his eyes at Clyde.

"Why do you ask that? Is there a particular reason for the question? You don't seem like the curious type," Eddie asked, interrogating Clyde a bit before answering his question.

"No reason, I just find it mind-blowing, that's all. And so I want to know if it's possible, since beast tamers awaken their core by taming or subduing beasts, can it be the same in the reverse?" Clyde gestured as he spoke to add more emphasis to his words.

Eddie placed a hand on his chin, giving his words some thought. It didn't take much time before he raised his head to Clyde with a more curious face.

"I can't actually say for sure, I mean, it's possible, but I can't say without any real evidence or back up to my claims." He answered.

'I unfortunately have evidence, but I can't show it to you, to avoid the dragon eating me alive,' he sighed nervously.

"You did say you have an awakened soul core, right?" Eddie asked.

"Yes, I did a while ago. What about it?" He responded with an uncertain look.

"Hmm, since this is your question, it can't be answered by me. Why don't you ask a professor? I am one but not in beast taming. Join the school, so you can have the freedom of asking one yourself," he offered, killing two birds with one stone.

Clyde slipped out his surprised expression before composing himself and controlling his facial expression.

'Hmm, what should I answer him? I'm not very good at interactions. Also, I think I will do quite well learning on my own compared to being controlled and ordered around.'

[Accept the offer] a voice sounded within his mind scape, startling his already calm composure.

"Is there anything wrong?" Eddie asked.

"No, everything is fine. I need some time to think about it, but I will give my answer before you leave," Clyde added with a smile.

"Well, you have until then. Because I would actually like to know the answer to your question myself, so I would like you to follow me back to the academy." Eddie said with a curious glance, fixing his glasses properly.

Clyde nodded, standing up and leaving the living room for the room he had been given by Jonathan.

After closing the door shut and making sure no one was listening, he sat on the edge of his bed and sank into his mind scape.

'Hey! Dragon!, you there?' He called out.

[Didn't you hear me the first time?] The dragon answered back.

'Sorry, but it's not cool to just bump into my head without permission!'

'By the way, what did you mean earlier? Why do you want me to accept the offer?' He asked, lying down on the bed and staring up at the ceiling.

[Isn't that already obvious on its own?, You have absolutely no chance of levelling up on your own and you do recall you have a time limit to impress me or be ready to be erased?] The dragon reminded him with a slightly oppressive voice that rattled his skull.

'Tsk!' He held his temple with both hands like it was about to burst open.

'Can you not try to pop my head with your voice? Also, I do have a chance of levelling up on my own.'

'The only issue is, it won't be as fast as when someone is teaching me because they have experience or have already gone through the process before, but aside from that I very much can level up just fine on my own,'

[Then it's an order. Accept the offer before he leaves the place or you leave this world.] Its last words echoed within his head, leaving that menacing tone.

"I actually just want to avoid seeing people's faces, especially kids my age. I don't like the way they think and behave immaturely towards others, but I guess now it's inevitable," he sighed.

He rose from the bed and opened the door, stepping out of the room to head downstairs, since it's been over thirty minutes since he had climbed up.

'Time does fly fast at times, doesn't it?'

He walked into the living room, and they were both deep in conversation when he arrived but immediately changed the topic upon his arrival.

"Clyde, you came down late, and now your tea is cold. I can't make another one since the jasmine flowers are finished," Jonathan spoke as Clyde walked into the living room.

"Hmm, no worries, I'm alright." He answered, stepping back a bit to let the grown-ups speak.

"You're done thinking about it? Or you need more time because the next time I might be here would be in a month's time," Eddie said to Clyde, expecting a positive response from him.

"Yeah I'm done thinking about it, and well, I guess I could use a bit of help learning and controlling my abilities," he answered with a stern look because it wasn't his decision afterall.

"Hmm," Eddie nodded in agreement.

"By the way, what did your soul awaken? What class?," he finally asked after already deciding everything.

'Should I tell him I'm a beast tamer?, yeah i should afterall they'll ask the same at the academy and I'll have no choice but to answer correctly if I want to be taught well,' he shrugged, leaning on the wall behind him.

"Beast taming." He answered plainly, his face devoid of any signs of emotion that relate to jokes.

"Beast taming?," Eddie repeated, fixing his glasses properly.

Even the word made Jonathan turn around on his sest, facing Clyde with a full-blown shocked expression on his face.

"I can't believe you actually awakened that class. Does it mean you tamed the Mireling?" Jonathan asked with a curious face.

"Obviously not," Clyde chuckled to hide his nervousness.

'Is beast taming that bad? Or is this an expression of shock from the fact that I awakened a rare ability?,'

"That means you definitely have to come to the academy. We need a student like you. Your class is a rare one and needs utmost attention in order for you to grow through the right path," Eddie said, fixing his glasses again.

"Well, it's fine by me, so far as there isn't any ulterior motive behind it." Clyde informed with a stern look.

Eddie nodded in response, "Understood, just leave the rest to me."

"We can set off now, so we can get there before headmaster charles leaves for the summit." Eddie fixed his glasses again as he rose to his feet.

"Now? I haven't even gotten myself ready yet. What about Jonathan?" Clyde panicked as he stood up.

"Just take what you need. The rest will be provided by the academy. As for Jonathan, he has been managing all by himself, I don't think he will mind, will you?" He turned to Jonathan, fixing his glasses again.

"Of course not, I can manage all on my own. It's alright, sunny, don't think so much about it. And if you see my son there, tell him to visit sometime!" Jonathan said enthusiastically.

'I guess i have no other choice,' he sighed inwardly.

"Fine, let's go then."
