Lina's POV - One Week Later
I'm getting stronger every day. My throat still hurts when I swallow, but I can eat solid food now. My legs are steadier when I walk. And most importantly, my mind is clearer than it's ever been.
I'm sitting on the couch working on my laptop when Rio comes home with Jennie. She's carrying designer bags from expensive stores. She's laughing at something he said, and they look comfortable together in a way that should make me jealous.
But I don't feel anything.
She sees me on the couch and her smile changes just slightly. Like she wasn't expecting me to be awake and alert.
"Oh, Lina," she says, walking over and kissing my cheek. "How are you feeling? You look so much better."
"Thank you," I say, keeping my voice warm but distant. "I'm doing much better. I hope you two had a nice time."
"Just some shopping," Rio says casually. "Jennie needed a few things. I thought she deserved to treat herself."
