Chapter 18 - Chapter 18

//AN: Realized the Quirk assessment is the only thing that happens during the day that was supposed to be orientation.

Just pretend everything that happened after orientation day was the next day.

—Class 1-A—

Chatter echoed through the classroom as people began funneling in after lunch. It was time for Hero Training, but their teacher had yet to arrive.

"I wonder who's teaching Hero Training?" Uraraka asked, a finger on her chin.

"It could be anyone." Iida replied, turning around in his chair.

The others talked amongst themselves, all trying to guess who it could be.

Renji just watched in amusement. He already knew who would be teaching this class. In fact, he literally stood next to a frozen All Might just a second ago. The Number #1 Hero was actually standing right outside the room hyping himself up.

In an instant, Renji cut off all conversation by speaking in a commanding tone. "He's here."

The door burst open, and a thunderous voice shook the classroom. "I am—!"

All Might strode inside with his usual larger-than-life presence, finishing with a grin. "—coming through the door like a normal person!"

The students gasped in shock as soon as they saw who their teacher was.

"It's All Might!" Kaminari said excitedly, eyes shining like he was looking at the sun.

"Awesome!" Kirishima exclaimed, pumping his fist into the air, "He really is a teacher!"

Meanwhile, with a croak, Tsuyu noticed the costume he was wearing. "Isn't that a costume from the Silver Age?"

All Might strode over to the podium in the center of the stage. Arms placed on his hips and an inspiring grin on his face.

"I teach Hero Basic Training." He said in a loud voice. "In this class, you'll train in different ways to learn the basics of being a hero!"

"Let's get right into it—!" All Might spun in place before producing a small sign. "With Combat Training!"

"COMBAT?!" Bakugo yelled enthusiastically. The past few classes were quite boring, but no way would he pass up an opportunity to fight.

About time. Renji thought silently, eager to test his enhancements in action.

All Might swung his arm and pointed to the side of the classroom where multiple containers popped out from the wall.

"Don't forget your costumes! They were made based on your Quirk registrations and requests you sent in before school started."

"After you change, gather in Ground Beta!"

—Ground Beta—

All Might watched as his students filed in through the entrance to Ground Beta, all of them sporting their new custom-made costumes.

"Now that's what I'm talking about!" All Might bellowed at the crowd. "Appearance is the first step to becoming a great hero!"

The crowd of students buzzed with excitement, each eager to show off their new looks. Bright colors, bold designs, and flashy accessories filled the courtyard.

Renji walked in near the back, hands tucked casually in his pockets.

At first glance, his costume looked like a sleeker, more refined version of the jacket he always wore, but the details revealed the upgrades.

His silver tech jacket shimmered under the sunlight, its surface traced with faint geometric panel lines that pulsed with soft light whenever he moved.

The pockets had been redesigned into modular compartments, magnetically sealed with thin glowing outlines, as if each one contained a gadget waiting to be deployed.

Reinforced gloves and gauntlets extended seamlessly from the sleeves. His black tactical pants were fitted yet flexible, with silver streaks that matched the jacket's glow. Heavy-duty boots grounded the look, their design hinting at room for modifications to be made.

All Might clapped his hands together, his booming voice shaking the ground. "Excellent! I see passion, spirit, and creativity in each of your costumes! Now… let's see how you use them!"

The class straightened up, some trying to look more impressive in their new gear.

He paced back and forth like a drill instructor addressing his troops. "This exercise will pit you against one another in mock battles. Half of you will take the role of villains, while the other half will play heroes tasked with stopping them. You'll be fighting indoors, to simulate scenarios like raids, hostage situations, and urban threats!"

Kirishima practically vibrated with excitement. "We're gonna fight for real?!"

"Of course!" All Might replied, slamming his fist into his palm for emphasis. "But remember, this is not about mindless brawling. It's about using your Quirks strategically, working with your teammates, and achieving your mission objectives!"

Renji folded his arms, a faint smirk tugging at his lips. He'd finally get a chance to test his upgrades in the kind of scenario he'd been waiting for.

"How will the wins and losses be determined?" Yaoyorozu asked calmly, assessing the situation.

Whereas Uraraka was concerned whether or not there would be a punishment like expulsion similar to how Aizawa did the Quirk assessment.

The others also had their own questions, leading All Might to have a frustrated look on his face.

"I will answer all your questions!" He shouted before slowly pulling out a small notebook that looked comical in his hands.

"The situation will be like this," All Might began, "The villains have stored a nuclear weapon somewhere in their hideout, and the heroes are trying to stop them."

"The heroes must catch the villains or get the nuclear weapon back in the allotted time. Meanwhile, the villains must either protect the weapon or capture the heroes."

He suddenly pulled out a large box from seemingly nowhere. "Teams and opponents will be determined by drawing lots!"

Seeing the format for selecting teammates, Iida immediately spoke up. "Shouldn't the teams be determined more strategically? That would better simulate real-world deployment!"

"A lot of pros don't have the luxury of choosing their companions, they often have to create makeshift teams with other agencies." Midoriya spoke up next to Iida.

"All right, young heroes!" All Might bellowed, holding the box aloft once more. "Let's begin the drawing!"

Soon enough, the students were all separated into different teams.

Team A: Izuku Midoriya & Ochaco Uraraka

Team B: Shoto Todoroki & Mezo Shoji

Team C: Momo Yaoyorozu & Renji Kanzaki

Team D: Katsuki Bakugo & Tenya Iida

Team E: Yuga Aoyama & Mina Ashido

Team F: Rikido Sato & Koji Koda

Team G: Denki Kaminari & Kyoka Jiro

Team H: Fumikage Tokoyami & Tsuyu Asui

Team I: Mashirao Ojiro & Toru Hagakure

Team J: Eijiro Kirishima & Hanta Sero

Renji walked over to Yaoyorozu who was eyeing the building that they'd be fighting in.

"Are you ready?" Renji asked, curious to see if she had any sort of plan already.

She looked over at him in surprise, taken out of her deep thinking. "I have a few ideas, but I never thought I'd be a villain."

Renji shrugged, to him it didn't matter which role he played, he just wanted to get to fighting already. "It can't be that bad, there's still a lot we can do and show as the villain team."

Yaoyorozu simply nodded at that, watching Bakugo and Iida walk into the building.

"All right, the rest of you, head over with me to the building next to us." All Might explained, pointing over. "We'll be able to view the fight as it happens in the surveillance room.

Remember, just because you aren't fighting now doesn't mean you can't learn something."

"I wonder what their plan is." Yaoyorozu questioned under her breath as they walked with All Might.

"Bakugo will rush in to fight Midoriya." Renji said offhandedly, raising his arms behind his head. "They have a deep history. Combine that with Bakugo's nature and you got a brawl starting within the minute."

"Hmm." She tilted her head, running through whether or not Renji's claim was plausible. "I suppose you may be right. Bakugo has shown more than once that his anger gets the better of him."

Staring at the screens in front of them. The class watched as Uraraka and Midoriya finally entered the building. However, after a climbing up the floors in search of the bomb, the two were attacked out of nowhere by Bakugo.

"He's alone?" Someone asked, peering at a different angle on the screen.

"Told you so." Renji sounded a little louder, grabbing everyone's attention. "Midoriya is going to find a way to let Uraraka pass so she can deal with Iida and the bomb."

Just like textbook, Midoriya yells at Uraraka to go without him as he tries to use the capture tape on Bakugo.

However, all that does it make him angrier as he lunges at Midoriya only for it to miss as he dodges once more.

Soon, Uraraka reached the room where Iida was guarding the Nuclear Core. She tries to stay hidden and wait for her teammate only to give away her location once she giggles at Iida's villain performance.

A massive explosion rocks the building as Bakugo unleashes his stored sweat from inside his bracers.

"Young Bakugo!" All Might yelled through the intercom. "An explosion of that degree is far too dangerous! If you do so again, this exercise will be over and your team will be disqualified."

Hearing that, Bakugo has no choice but to resort to hand to hand combat.

Bakugo's furious snarls echoed through the hallways as he lunged again, explosions popping off his palms like fireworks with every strike. Midoriya barely kept ahead, weaving between debris and rubble.

If he chose to unleash his quirk recklessly, his body wouldn't be able to hold up.

In the surveillance room, the rest of the class leaned closer to the monitors, captivated by the raw intensity of the fight.

"He's keeping up with Bakugo?!" Kirishima said, wide-eyed.

"Midoriya has studied him," Yaoyorozu observed calmly, eyes narrowing as she analyzed their movements. "He knows his habits and tells. That's how he's anticipating Bakugo's attacks."

Renji sniffed, observing the ensuing brawl. "It's not that hard once you get a read on him."

Inside the building, the clash between Bakugo and Midoriya only grew more intense. Bakugo's rage burned brighter with every failed strike, his voice echoing down the hall.

"Stop dodging, Deku!" he bellowed, palms crackling with heat.

He ducked as another explosion tore chunks from the wall. Dust and smoke filled the hallway, blinding both of them.

Without much time to spare, Midoriya ran straight at Bakugo. Charging, he slammed his fist up towards the ceiling, smashing through multiple floors.

"Uraraka, now!"

Amidst the chaos and with the building becoming undone, the girl reacted instantly, vaulting over Iida's outstretched arms. She tapped the bomb with a single fingertip.

All Might's booming voice declared the result. "The hero team wins!"

The monitors froze on that victory screen as the alarms blared. The class buzzed in disbelief.

"No way… they actually pulled it off!" Kirishima exclaimed.

"Bakugo lost?" Mina's jaw dropped. "To Midoriya?!"

On-screen, Bakugo stood trembling in the wreckage of his fight with Midoriya, eyes wide with disbelief, fury twisting his features.

Midoriya slumped against the wall, his arm dangling uselessly at his side, but a satisfied smile tugged at his lips.

The class clapped as both teams exited the building and moved toward the surveillance room.

But something was wrong.

TZZHHHHHH!

Renji observed his aunt Emi walk out of the HPSC building with tears running down her eyes.

The world he saw was in stasis, so there was no asking her what had happened. The best he could do was observe.

He walked into the building with a dark look on his face. He checked out as much as he could. Reports, whiteboards, still images of articles on the agents' computers, everything. For a situation like this, it would be much easier to get information through someone like Nezu or his supercomputer.

But time was of the essence, and the place where Renji had the most time was in the dimension he peered into using his quirk.

Gathering a few scattered reports, Renji plastered them onto a bulletin board. The situation was clear as day. A certain villain had run amok, leading to multiple casualties and many others injured.

Luckily, there were heroes nearby to stop the rogue villain before things had gotten too out of control. In most cases, Renji would have stopped here and asked Emi for further details later. But this wasn't most cases.

Because laying dead inside a zipped up body bag, was Ryuga Yamamoto.
