A while later, the driver arrived to take Mini home.
Mini ran up to Loir and Sam, waved her tiny hands, and blew them a dramatic flying kiss.
"Brother, bring your boyfriend home next time!" she said cheerfully before hopping into the car.
Loir froze, his face instantly turning red.
"Hey! Don't say things like that, Mini!" he snapped, embarrassed.
Sam couldn't help but laugh quietly. "Alright, I'll come for sure," he said, smiling.
Mini giggled again, waved them goodbye, and the car disappeared down the road.
Now, the room was quiet.
Just Loir and Sam.
Alone.
They both sat on the sofa, awkwardly close yet pretending to be calm. Neither of them knew what to say first.
Finally, Loir broke the silence.
"Do you… want to read some comic books?"
Sam chuckled softly, lowering his gaze. "Didn't we just come from the library?"
"Ah—right…" Loir scratched the back of his neck. "Then maybe… let's watch a movie instead?"
He quickly grabbed the remote and turned around—only to feel Sam suddenly wrap his arms around him from behind.
Loir gasped in surprise and lost his balance, falling backward onto the sofa—dragging Sam down with him.
Their bodies pressed close, breath mingling.
Loir's eyes widened as he stammered,
"U-uh… is the TV remote under your waist or…?"
Sam's lips curled into a teasing smile.
"No," he said softly, "the remote's in your hand."
Loir blinked, confused.
He looked at the remote, then at Sam, then slowly reached to feel what was pressing against his hip.
"Then what's this long—"
Before he could finish, Sam flicked his forehead gently and kissed him on the nose.
Loir froze, face turning crimson, and quickly lowered his head.
Sam chuckled at his expression, amused and fond.
"Guess we don't need to watch a movie anymore," he whispered playfully.
Then he glanced at his wristwatch. "It's already 6:30. Let's go for a walk outside."
Loir nodded quickly, still blushing.
They left the house together, walking side by side through the quiet streets.
The cool evening air brushed past them as they talked—about school, classes, and the colleges they dreamed of attending next year.
By the time they realized, night had already fallen.
When they reached Loir's gate, Sam smiled and said goodbye.
Loir waved back, watching as Sam got into the car and drove away into the soft glow of the streetlights.
And as the taillights disappeared, Loir's heart beat faster—warmer than the night around him.
