GTAG Chapter 27: Extermination
Although Godzilla had realized the winged Kaiju was charging up a special attack, the railgun strike still caught him off guard.
He never imagined such a biological creature could wield a weapon like that. In his mind, railguns belonged on aircraft carriers or military fortresses—not inside living bodies.
Clearly, he had underestimated them.
While he was still shaken, three level-six Kaiju that had been circling him lunged from three directions.
One clamped down on his neck, while the other two bit into his flanks.
But an awkward problem arose.
No matter how hard they bit, their fangs could not pierce his hide. Not a single scratch appeared on Godzilla's body—yet their own teeth were beginning to loosen.
Realizing biting was pointless, the Kaiju holding his neck let go. The other two strained to drag Godzilla toward the surface.
The freed Kaiju swelled its throat, then spewed a torrent of glowing blue acid across Godzilla's head.
This corrosive fluid was strong enough to eat through steel in seconds.
The burning splash jolted Godzilla from his daze. Drenched and disgusted, he lashed out.
His massive tail whipped into the Kaiju on his left, sending it hurtling out of the water, soaring nearly a kilometer into the sky before crashing back down.
The second Kaiju, sensing danger, tried to break away. But Godzilla's tail lashed again, flinging it skyward like the first.
When their broken bodies floated back to the surface, neither moved again. Their jaws hung open, spilling ruined organs into the sea.
"OHhhhhhh!"
Inside the Shattered Dome, cheers thundered.
Godzilla had taken a railgun blast to the head and was still fighting. Humanity's fate was tied to this titan now—if he fell, so would they.
Newton's shout was the loudest of all. "That's it! Kill those bastards!"
Everyone turned to stare at him until Hermann tugged his sleeve. Realizing he'd overdone it, Newton mimed zipping his lips. The room refocused on the screen.
The acid-spitting Kaiju tried to retreat, but Godzilla churned the water with a powerful sweep of his tail, trapping it in the turbulence.
Then he lunged forward and bit down on its skull.
Bone cracked like dry wood. Half the Kaiju's brain was torn away in his jaws.
A brutal flick of his tail hurled the corpse away. Its brains splattered through the air even before it struck the ocean.
Three enemies, slain in under thirty seconds.
Now Godzilla lifted his gaze toward the last Kaiju above, its body inverted as it charged a second railgun shot.
He didn't want another headache.
Though the attack couldn't truly harm him, the concussive impact rattled his senses. That irritation was enough.
With a growl, eerie blue light flared along his dorsal plates and chest. Power swelled inside him, building toward release.
"See it? See it!?" Newton shouted, nearly hysterical. "I told you! Fusion reaction inside his body! He knows how to control it—I was right!"
He laughed wildly, while the general pinched the bridge of his nose. The stronger Godzilla became, the less control humanity had.
Still, leadership demanded calm. The general had no choice but to stand firm, even as the situation slipped further from his grasp.
Meanwhile, the Kaiju sensed the surge of energy. Even without human instruments, they were acutely sensitive to such power.
Without hesitation, the airborne creature fired.
A golden beam lanced downward—just as Godzilla unleashed his atomic breath.
Blue and gold collided, two pillars of light grinding against each other.
Every human in the Dome held their breath.
The golden blast lasted less than a second before the searing blue burned through, overwhelming it completely.
The atomic breath punched through the Kaiju's skull, vaporizing its head in a storm of fire and plasma.
If Godzilla hadn't deliberately aimed only for its head, the entire body would have been annihilated.
The titan closed his jaws, the blue glow fading from his body as steam rolled off his scales. He swam toward the falling corpse, curious.
A Kaiju that could channel railgun energy… its body would be worth examining. That was why he'd spared everything but its head, preserving the carcass as intact as possible.
