GTAG Chapter 46: Devour
Staring at the strange, wrinkled mass of flesh before him, Godzilla's gaze locked onto the section struck by his atomic breath.
Whether the beam's power was simply too overwhelming, or Omega's vitality had already waned too far, the result was the same.
With only a sixth of its body vaporized, Omega's life signs had already vanished.
Fortune was on Godzilla's side.
To kill Omega while leaving most of its body intact was a stroke of luck so rare it was almost unthinkable.
It felt as though he had consumed centuries of good fortune in a single moment.
Still, the outcome was ideal.
Godzilla opened his massive jaws and swallowed Omega whole, not wasting a single scrap.
Afterward, his eyes turned to the twisted, metal-like corpses scattered in the tunnels. He picked out the largest ones, grabbed them casually, and tossed them into his mouth.
With Omega devoured, Godzilla felt refreshed, invigorated, and strangely pleased.
Then, humming with satisfaction, he returned to his own world.
Yet as he crossed back, something tugged at his memory. He had forgotten something.
A human.
He shrugged the thought off. Just one human wasn't worth burning the energy to go back.
The moment Godzilla vanished, everyone who had been tracking him reeled in shock.
Those who had witnessed his disappearance firsthand were ashen-faced, as if they had seen a ghost.
No matter how they studied it, none could figure out how Godzilla had simply vanished.
But the reason the alien invaders had suddenly collapsed—that much they understood.
Godzilla had killed Omega right before their eyes. Anyone who didn't grasp that had no business surviving.
Dr. Carter, the man who had first revealed Omega and Alpha's existence, was once again thrust into the spotlight of human leadership.
He wanted nothing less. He had no desire for fame.
And though he had discovered Omega and Alpha, the world had no shortage of scientists greater than him.
Now that Omega was dead, all Carter wanted was retirement. But clearly, that wasn't up to him.
Cage and Rita were also investigated. Their secrecy with Carter drew suspicion.
Though Carter had excused their actions by saying he had recruited them to help kill Omega, not everyone believed him.
Whispers spread—Carter was hiding something.
With the alien threat gone, humanity's uglier side resurfaced. Those flaws had never disappeared; they had only been buried.
…
Back in his own world, Godzilla finally remembered what he had forgotten.
That human.
He dismissed it again. One human was nothing.
Far more important was the sudden presence he felt in the ocean.
The small monster he had once abandoned—newborn and pitiful—had sensed his return.
Godzilla had been away too long in the other world. The creature had spent its short life in constant fear, left to fend for itself.
This wasn't the first time Godzilla had crossed worlds. Each return, he usually found that little time had passed.
He discovered this when he began creating monsters, using the growth of their eggs to measure time.
But this time, he had left no eggs. He had no marker for how long he'd been gone.
And yet he knew this time was different. Too much time had passed.
The monsters he had crafted had grown strong, their life force multiplied many times over. Growth like this was not possible in the short term.
Among them was his final creation—the one he had been most satisfied with. That monster was now racing toward him at remarkable speed.
So Godzilla waited, curious to see how far it had come.
On the other side, observers watched the small monster speed toward a fixed point.
This creature had caused chaos for years.
Because of its small size and weaker G-cell readings, many nations had underestimated it, assuming it was nothing more than a minor kaiju.
They had paid dearly for that mistake.
Its armored hide and devastating electromagnetic cannon had torn through fleets, carriers, and even nuclear submarines.
Even nuclear strikes had failed to kill it.
When governments celebrated its supposed death, the monster returned alive, scarred but stronger—its wounds like marks of honor.
At last, they could only observe from a distance, mapping its movements, building defenses in secret.
Its path seemed purposeful, as if it were searching for something.
And now, as it charged headlong in a single direction, they assumed it had finally found its goal.
But when they plotted its route, realization struck.
It was heading back to where it was born.
…
While he waited, Godzilla began consuming Omega's genes, along with those of the other creatures.
This time, there was no sudden evolution of his G-cells as before. They strengthened, yes, but without evolving further—a small disappointment.
Still, as he fully absorbed Omega's essence, Godzilla felt something stir inside him.
That force he had always possessed but never truly commanded—the power of time and space itself.
