Jasmine's POV
The rain had not stopped since dawn. The roads were slick and narrow, the kind that looked like they could swallow a car whole if you weren't careful.
Ares was still asleep when I left the safe house. I did not sneak out… but I didn't wake him either. After everything that happened last night, I needed time to breathe, to think, and to face the ghosts I had been chasing for too long.
The address came from one of the decrypted files we found… an estate on the edge of Halden County. The name on the document was one I had not dared say out loud before.
Elias Raines.
My uncle. My father's brother.
The rain turned to mist by the time I reached the long, gated driveway. The mansion beyond it was old but well-kept, its windows glowing faintly in the gray light. I pressed the intercom.
A deep voice answered, "Who is this?"
"My name is Jasmine Duvall," I said. "amd I believe Mr. Raines is expecting me."
