Chapter 2 - Eyes

"Oh, you're done. Here, put these on," Dylan tossed Ahriman a change of clean clothes.

"Why?"

"I don't want you walking around the house naked," Dylan answered as he walked behind Ahriman. "And you can have this too," Dylan wrapped a bandanna around Ahriman's eyes. "No more dirty clothes, and I'm cutting your hair."

"No!"

"I really tried to clean it as best I could, but there are some knots that aren't coming out, and besides, it'll make you look better."

"I don't want to look better. I'm a demon."

"Mhm. So scary. Can you retract your claws?"

"Yeah, but why would I?"

"You don't have to have them out. I'm also curious, how do you get around so well if you don't have eyes?"

"I can see, and I do have an eye. I've just hidden it so you can't see it."

"An eye? Just one?"

"Yup. Right here," Ahriman lifted up his free hand as a giant eye appeared above his head and looked straight at Dylan. Dylan jumped back and stared at it. As creepy as it was, it was a beautiful shade of purple. "I can give myself two eyes in this body, but then I can only see what you pathetic humans see." the eye disappeared and Ahriman started to remove the towel around his waist

"What are you doing? Don't change in front of me! Go in the living room or something! Sheesh!" Dylan pointed to the doorway. Ahriman rolled his eyes and walked into the living room. He came back a minute later wearing the clothes Dylan had given him; although, they were way too big on him, considering how much smaller he was compared to Dylan.

"Are you blushing?"

"What? No!" Dylan shoved a plate into Ahriman's hands. "Your food is ready! Eat up!" Dylan walked away. Ahriman stood there for a second and looked down at the plate. Dylan had made a ham sandwich with cheese, lettuce, tomato, mayo, and pickles, with a side of grapes, carrots, and fishy crackers. Ahriman walked into the living room and sat across from where Dylan was lying down. He sat there quietly, eating his food and watching Dylan pretend he wasn't there. After a while, Dylan drifted to sleep. When he awoke the next morning, Ahriman was gone. He searched around the house before going back into the living room and staring at the fireplace for a minute. He sighed and walked over to it and looked inside. "Eek!" Dylan squealed when he saw Ahriman look at him from inside the chimney.

"Why do you sound so surprised?" Ahriman yawned and curled back up. "You were looking for me, were you not?"

"Yeah. Sorry."

"I am a nocturnal being, so please let me sleep," Ahriman whined in a sleepy voice. Dylan couldn't help smile at how cute he sounded.

"Sorry. I didn't know demons sleep."

"Mm."

"Goodnight. Morning. Whatever." Dylan cleaned more of the house that day and made a list of the things that needed to be fixed. It started to get dark out again when Dylan started making dinner. All of a sudden, he felt someone jump on him and wrap their scrawny limbs around him; though, they barely weighed anything and Dylan didn't budge. "How are you supposed to haunt this place if you can't even budge me?"

"Don't mock me! I could easily knock you down if I wanted to."

"Mhm. Sure. But I seem to remember knocking you down last night."

"I…" Ahriman's voice trailed off.

"Yeah. That's what I thought."

"I hate you."

"Really? You don't seem to be trying to kill me anymore."

"You make food. If I kill you, who's gonna give me food?"

"I'm glad that's all that's keeping you from killing me."

"Mm. You're welcome."

"Also, why do you sleep in the chimney? What if someone starts a fire in there?"

"You think fire's gonna hurt me?"

"Well, my fist did."

"Yeah, I remember," Ahriman started to dig his claws into Dylan's sides.

"OW! Don't do that!"

"This is payback."

"Payback for self-defense?"

"Eh."

"Here. The food is ready. Sit down at the table, and I'll cut your hair." Ahriman grabbed his food and took a seat. Dylan grabbed some scissors and started cutting away. After a while, Dylan finished cutting and Ahriman finished his food. The haircut wasn't perfect, but it was better than before. No more stubborn knots, and Ahriman's hair lay in fluffy, beautiful, loose curls. "There. That's better," Dylan ruffled Ahriman's hair in satisfaction.

"Whatever," Ahriman sighed.

"Yesterday you said you could give yourself two eyes, but you could only see what humans see. What does that mean?"

"It means, I won't be able to see things in the demon realm, only the human realm."

"What's in the demon realm?"

"Other demons, curses, monsters, beasts, angels, and stuff like that."

"Is there anything here I should know or worry about?" Ahriman looked around and stopped his gaze in the corner behind Dylan.

"Other than me...No." Dylan turned around to see what Ahriman was looking at, but didn't see anything.

"Is there something behind me?"

"No, but I think another kind of demon is coming down the driveway."

"What?! Is it dangerous?"

"Don't know. I guess we'll find out," Ahriman looked at Dylan. The sound of a car was heard outside on the gravel driveway. Dylan slowly stood up and walked toward the front door. Someone knocked on the door. Dylan took a deep breath and opened the door to see a girl standing there.

"Rachael! Oh my gosh, you scared me," Dylan sighed in relief.

"Why? I told you I was coming," the girl scoffed. "This is the house you bought? Gross."
