Chapter 20 - Fight of Flames I

SAMAEL

Huge pressure descends on the entire surrounding as the humongous beast flies close to us. If I thought it was big looking at it from afar, now I can't find the word to describe it's size. To it we look like ants scrambling around. Even Fenrir looked like a cockroach beside it. What in the world is this monster?

It slams it's beak into the ground and it nearly impales Fenrir. The beast jumps in time to avoid the beak and a slam of its beak tears the ground before it into two. If that beak had hit Fenrir even my strongest heaing potion cannot save him. Fenrir keeps heading towards us and just as he crosses the treshold of my circle I toss the Refined Divine Maagi core and a huge shield materializes. The phoenix slams into the shield and is tossed back.

VEILA eyes widens at the strength of the shield. There is not even a single dent on the shueld from the force of that attack from the beast. I can sense question s racing through her brain but this wasn't the time for that. A shield can only last for a while, we need to find a way to end this monster before that time runs out or we are in trouble.

Sensing that sheer force couldn't break through the shield, the bird starts to circle the shield. Fenrir rises from the spot where he lay panting heavily and Veila flies behind me with a start.

"Don't worry, he won't hurt you." I try to soothe her but she shakes her head. Fenrir just puffs in indifference and struts closer to me. She let's our another shriek as he gets to me and I chuckle.

"Human would you stop! You will burst my eardrums!" Fenrir snaps but to VEILA all she would here are wolf barks and she flinches in fear. I shoot Fenrir a glare and he backs off.

"She can't hear you and you know that. Taunting the lady?" I ask and he rolls his eyes.

"Like I have such time! What are we going to do about the phoenix?" He asks and this time sounds more like a low growl.

"I have to face it!" His eyes widens before he starts laughing crazily!

"You are joking, right?" He asks but my straight face says all ii need to. "Do you have a death wish?" He yells at me and Veila flinches. He shoots her a glare and faces me back "On a normal day your maagi is A+ Rank, which is miles apart from this monster in class, let's not add the fact that you have no maagi left in that human body of yours. Your death is assured!" He yells the realistic view and I sigh

"I know, i have thought about all this, and the only way any of us will survive is if one of us plays distraction." I yell at Fenrir and this time a flash of recognition crosses Veila's face.

"You have been communicating with the beast all this while?" She asks and we bothe face her

"Yes!"

"Yes" Fenrir does but it was a loud bark that she hears. She touches slightly but the shock on her face doesn't fall.

"You are a tamer? He is your tamed beast?" She says more like an affirmation than a question and we both nod. "Wow!" She says and Fenrir just shakes his head.

"You can't fight it. Can't you open a portal?" Fenrir asks and I shake my head.

"No maagi remember" I reply and he nods. He paces for a while before facing me

"Can't you use the maagi in this core?" He asks

"The power here won't be enough to cast a complete portal and will also cost us our cover. We'll all be dead before I can finish the complex cast." I reply and he groans in frustration. All these are things I have thought about before now. There is no other way around it. One of my trials was also to kill the phoenix knowing fully well it's power.

"What are you planning to do?" Veila asks now used to Fenrir presence enough to gain her confidence back.

"I'm going to fight the Boss Beast while you guys escape!" I reply her straight faced and making sure my facial expression doesn't betray the storm in my heart.

"Are you insane?" She screams and I roll my eyes.

"Same thing I asked" Fenrir says in my head in a deadpan tone and I glare him down.

"I know you feel invincible, but you must not be stupid enough to think you can win! The odds are slim!" She continues in a high pitcehdd tone filled with worry and despair.

"Don't tell me you are staring to worry about me, princess?" I ask in a mocking tone and she rolls her eyes, grumbles under her breath and puffs her chest. She looks like a child who they took a candy from. The expression puts a smile on my face. "The odds might be slim, but our choices are also slim. It's either me or everyone of us!" I reply in the hardest tone I can muster!

Confirming my decision, a hige fireball that was so gold it can pass of for the sun hits the shield and a crack appears on it. It takes the beast another five minutes to conjure another fireball in its mouth before shooting it at the shield again. This time the cracks widen. The shield will only withstand two more tracks before it gives out.

"Now listen! This is what will happen! Once the shield shatters a dust of particles will rise. Fenrir you are the fastest, you carry the Princess as far as you can to somewhere the senses of the beast won't reach." I command and even though they both have reservations with the plan, none of them is giving up their life so they can bear a little discomfort. They both look at each other and nod.

Instantly eveyone gets to it. Veila dusts herself off and Fenrir cleans all the blood off his fur using an icebath spell he created a few weeks ago. The spell freezes all the liquid on his body and then pack all the ice into a single ball infront of him. It's the only way he has kept his silver furs shinning. As the third fireball hits the shield Veila gets on Fenrir. They look at me with pitiful expressions but all I could spare them is a nod. Any other thing and I might not be able to do this. Nodding back they face the other side.

As the final fireball heads for the shield I scream "Now!" I pull the Refined Divine Maagi Core from its place and the shield disintegrates into particles of glass. Fenrir runs his paws slamming into the earth forcefully and ice forming the faster he went doubling his speed. Before the fireball hit, they were already to far from the spell to be affected. I brace the flames and just as it gts close enough Two Katanas materializes and I slash the flames into two. With a huge leap I fly through the hole I tore in the flames and race towards my opponent.

Now let's kill a phoenix!

VEILA

I knew the boy has to be powerful to be able to singlehandedly cast a Tether Ritual Spell, but I never knew such power like this exists. His use of the elements was primal, crude, raw, and still intelligent. From the manner of control you can see he is not casting just using the pure Maagi in the air. As good as that is, it's quite draining on our maagi.

Awakening Maagi at 18 is Compulsory for all people with 23% Maagi pool, but we don't get to use spell till we get to the Academy. Reason being that that span of 3 years give us enough time to get intimated with the flow of our maagi, our limits, our strengths, and even sometimes our majors. The Academy is there to help us become better than we already are. That's why elves also don't get their Tethers until they are about to head to the academy.

However, looking at this boy I am amazed with his spells. Not only does he have an enormous level of Maagi pool of at least 90%, his use of the element was so refined. With a single cast of that doesn't really drain Maagi he kills hundreds of Avians. He has refined his elemental Maagi usage to an extenr that even his attacks were starting to look like Spells.

Not to talk of the final spell he used to end the rest of the beasts. It's non negotiably a pure Maagi used as energy spell that disintegartes hundreds of monsters. If I didn't keep replacing the roots immediately the old one disintegartes I wouldn't have survived that onslaught of Maagi. Only a few Mages have been able to successfully master two of the three types of maagi, but here was a boy of my age using both effortlessly!

I thought I have seen it all when a weird beast starts heading towards us. It looked like it should be a Nerculan, but it looked unlike them. The light silver fur, coupled with blue and brown streaks shined brightly, and those snowy white eyes. The beast was definitely a SSS+ beast. I could even see sighs of ice below it's feet. What is this beast? Eleves due to how connected we are to nature are mostly elementals and Tamers so even before we can walk we are forced to study all beast that humans know of. I know nothing of his beast. Can this be a Hybrid? Or a Mix of multiple breeds. If that is true it's powers will be enormous and surprising!

Imagine my shock when I find out the Beast is a tamed beast belonging to the guy! He is also a beast tamer? How? How can a single boy master all three types of maagi? It's supposed to be impossible. What in the world is this human boy? He is definitely an abomination! He is going to shake the world when we leave here.

I feel a pang of hurt in my chest as I realize such a talent would die without the world knowing him. If life was any fair he would have gone to becomw a very powerful mage, maybe even the most powerful Supe to walk this realm, but he will loose his life to the hands of a beast that in a few years he will easily deal with!

What a shame! What a waste of talent!
