Chapter 23 - Chapter 23 Temporary Return and Territory Expansion

That night.

After saying goodbye to Eula, Ying, as host, invited Jack and the others to stay in the Serenitea Pot.

But after her private talk with Keqing, Jack was treated like an outsider.

Ying kissed him, then pushed him out with the excuse: "I need to talk to Keqing about private matters."

So, Jack and the gatekeeper returned to the MC world.

"Gatekeeper… it feels a bit awkward calling you that. Do you have a name of your own?"

The man shook his head.

Jack studied the figure before him—resolute, battle-hardened, with the air of a butler from some fingertip universe. His skills in both close combat and long-range shooting were obvious. Once properly armed, he'd be the kind of warrior who could stand against a dragon's assault.

"Then I'll call you… Sebastian."

[Successfully named the gatekeeper "Sebastian."][You don't own a territory yet, so you can't recruit followers. Please create a territory in time.]

The moment Jack spoke, Sebastian's body flashed with golden light, and a character panel appeared before him.

[Name: Sebastian][Occupation: Gatekeeper][Level: 50][Affiliation: None]

Jack's eyes widened. So that's how he kept up with my five-second hundred-meter dash…

Until now, Sebastian had no "level" attached to him. Clearly, villagers weren't truly level-less—it was just hidden until they were recruited or named by a lord. Once recognized, they gained a class template and their stats became visible.

"In that case, first step—create a settlement and establish a territory."

Jack immediately got to work, building the key prop: the Town Hall.

In the Colony Simulator module, the Town Hall was constructed from seven wooden planks arranged around two "building tools." It looked like a podium, a hub where all territory settings could be managed.

The building tools themselves were simple to craft—two sticks and a cobblestone, placed diagonally.

"It won't do to use my cabin as the Town Hall. A place where people gather shouldn't double as a private residence."

He cupped his hands and shouted, "Big Horn, come here!"

"Roooar!"

A massive dragon-beast answered, stomping thunderously toward him.

"Take me for a ride around."

"Ouuugh!"

Mounted on his dragonet, Jack rose into the sky. From above, he carefully surveyed the land, sketching out plans.

The forest hut sat at the center. Just a few hundred meters west lay a wide river with an arch bridge he had built himself, connecting to vast plains beyond.

The plains were mostly flat, with only a few hills and shallow depressions—perfect for farming and animal husbandry. The climate was mild, too.

Even though the Dragon Adventure modpack simulated seasonal changes, temperature shifts were minor. Only snowy regions saw snowfall in winter.

If the colony radiates outward from the Town Hall, I'll want it close to farmland—so villagers can double as farmers harvesting wheat.

But Jack was already thinking beyond the base mechanics. In his mind, subjects wouldn't just chop trees, mine stone, or farm. They could patrol, teach, build culture.

By default, the mod only gave villagers a few fixed jobs, their attributes randomized. Production efficiency depended on those stats—leading some hardcore players to cull "useless" villagers in order to breed stronger ones.

Jack shook his head. No need for streetlamp justice here. I'll make use of everyone.

For over ten minutes he scouted the plains.

Finally, he settled on a spot near the farmland, slightly elevated above the surrounding terrain. Perfect for building the Town Hall.

Clang! Clang!

With a series of hammer strikes, a simple wooden house rose around the podium.

[Please name the territory: ______]

"Let's call it Entala. It means Eternal Land."

[The territory of Entala has been created.]

Jack then formally added Sebastian as his subject.

His status panel updated instantly:

[Faction: Entala][Loyalty: 100][Happiness: 100]

Jack chuckled. A true zealot. Those stats must be locked at max.

He was satisfied. Being treated like an idol wasn't so bad.

After the Town Hall, the next structures to build were the Architect's Hut, Citizen Housing, and so on. But with the settlement just starting out, Jack had to do much of the work himself.

While he was drafting plans, Sebastian returned with several ordinary villagers from nearby hamlets.

They bowed respectfully.

"Greetings, my lord. We have heard of your deeds and have come to join your territory."

Jack glanced at him, and he still had that dull look on his face, which almost made him feel like he was going through the uncanny valley.

"Okay, you will be a farmer. You will be responsible for helping me open up new farmland and harvest the wheat in the fields."

[Name: Robin]Occupation: FarmerLevel 5[Faction: Entala]Loyalty Index: 60[Happiness Index: 40]

With such a comparison, Sebastian's advantages were immediately highlighted.

Ordinary NPC? No.

An elite NPC used to guard the gate to another world, that's more like it!

"It seems that the plan to establish a gatekeeper team needs to be put on the agenda."

No matter how he looked at ordinary villagers now, Jack felt a sense of disgust.

But there was no other way. In order to free up the hands of himself, Keqing, and other possible companions in the future, he could only recruit more villagers, assign them lighter workloads, and keep their happiness at a stable level.

This way, work efficiency wouldn't be reduced.

Of course, he did this also because he didn't want to treat this world as just a game.

Otherwise, if you simply said "the villagers can only suffer more," how could these people, who didn't even have complete intellectual capacity, resist?

After arranging everything, the sky had already darkened like water.

Fortunately, Jack never had the masochistic idea of increasing the difficulty of his main world. In Peace Mode, there was basically no danger at night other than the darkness itself.

Moreover, after confirming that the continent of Teyvat was connected to his old game account from his previous life, Jack had an idea.

That was to take Zhongli, Raiden Ei, Venti, Nahida, and the others to sweep across the major ruins of the main world, including the subsequent Hell and the End of the World, until he had complete control and unlocked Creative Mode.

By then, not to mention the Star Gods of the Honkai Iron World, at the very least, he would be fully capable of standing against the natural laws of the Genshin world.
