Chapter 151: People of the Meteor
Above the sea, Ryan sat on Wailord, yawned, and said, "Why do I feel like sea travel has become so common since arriving in Hoenn?"
"It can't be helped. The island where the abandoned power plant is located is completely isolated. There's no ferry service there," Lillie said helplessly.
"Stop complaining," Sapphire said. "We can already see the island."
Following Sapphire's words, Ryan and his companions noticed a dark speck on the horizon. As Wailord approached, they could clearly see the island.
The island wasn't large, but a dilapidated power plant occupied nearly two-thirds of it. Ryan couldn't understand why a power plant was built on this island. After all, it was quite far from Mauville City. If it was for tidal power generation, such a long distance seemed impractical.
Landing on the island revealed the gate to the abandoned power plant. Ryan surveyed the vast facility and said, "I guess it's going to be similar to that Abandoned Ship. Most Electric-type Pokémon have made their homes here."
"Do you have any Pokémon you want to capture?" Lillie asked. "If you do, we can keep an eye out for them."
"Huh? Lillie, aren't you going to capture any?" Sapphire asked.
"No, I already have a Pikachu," Lillie said, then looked at Ryan.
Ryan smiled. In the blink of an eye, almost two years had passed. It was because of that Pikachu he captured in Kanto that Ryan and his team discovered Team Rocket's secret base, and Mewtwo was born.
"Pikachu are pretty cute," Sapphire said.
"I'd love to capture a Plusle or Minun. Two of them would be great as a doubles team," Ruby said.
"Then let's capture a pair. One for you, one for Sapphire," Ryan said.
With that, he entered the abandoned power plant. A few Magnemite floated towards him, but unfortunately, they weren't Ryan's type. After obtaining Zeraora, Ryan had become selective about Electric-type Pokémon, and ordinary ones simply didn't interest him.
"It's strange! Why do abandoned power plants always attract Electric-type Pokémon to settle down?" Sapphire asked curiously.
"It's actually very simple," Lillie said.
"Here we go," Ruby whispered, "Lillie's lesson time."
"Hey!" Ryan tapped Ruby on the head and said, "Listen carefully and learn."
"Yes, yes," Ruby said helplessly.
"Although the abandoned power plant is no longer operational, the equipment is generally still here, providing shelter for Electric-type Pokémon," Lillie explained. "Even if the equipment isn't working, it still generates some residual electricity over time, which serves as food for wild Electric-type Pokémon. Plus, when Electric-type Pokémon battle, they also emit electricity, attracting more Electric-types. Over time, large numbers of Electric-type Pokémon will gather here."
"I see," Sapphire nodded. "It's great to have Lillie here. You're so knowledgeable and good at taking care of Pokémon. It's wonderful to travel with you!"
"Okay, let's head to the power storage room first," Ryan said. "There should be powerful Pokémon stationed there. It would be the best place to find strong Pokémon."
"Okay," the three nodded, and began searching for the power storage room.
While exploring, Ryan also spotted some high-quality Pokémon and asked if anyone wanted to capture them. If not, Ryan would send out Charizard to battle them, capturing them and teleporting them back to the breeding center.
They'd captured many Electric Pokémon, but had yet to encounter either Plusle or Minun. Ryan and his companions were philosophical about it, believing encounters were fate; otherwise, it was just bad luck.
Deep within the power plant, Ryan and his companions spotted a Salamence blocking a doorway.
Ruby's eyes widened at the sight of Salamence, and she whispered, "How could this be such a coincidence?! This Salamence is the one that attacked me as a child!"
"Huh?" Ryan exclaimed, surprised. "Are you sure?"
"Of course," Ruby said, touching her right forehead. "How could I forget!"
Ryan fell silent. His memories of the manga had long since faded, and his notes contained no mention of Ruby's encounter with Salamence from childhood.
After a moment's thought, Ryan said, "Let's battle it first. It's no match for us."
With that, Charizard roared and charged. A jet of flames struck Salamence directly. The dragon had no time to react, being engulfed in the flames. With its health depleted, the flames seared through its body, and it collapsed.
Ryan smiled. "Having mastered the essence of combustion, Charizard's flames are now much more powerful, easily overwhelming opponents." Ryan pulled out a Poké Ball and threw it at Salamence. However, the Poké Ball bounced off the dragon, failing to capture it. Ryan frowned and said, "This Salamence has already been captured, which means its Trainer is in this room."
"Then let's go in and ask!" Sapphire said eagerly.
After all, Salamence had attacked not only Ruby, but Sapphire as well. If Ruby hadn't risked her life to save her, the scar on Ruby's forehead would now be on Sapphire's face!
Ryan pushed open the door and saw a black-haired girl in a black outfit and a gray cloak sending out a Goodra and a Noivern. She looked at Ryan and his group with a cold gaze, then saw the fallen Salamence outside the door and said coldly: "Who are you! Why are you here? If you don't answer truthfully, I will make you stay here forever!"
"We should be asking you that!" Ruby shouted, "Who are you? Did you capture this Salamence recently, or five years ago?"
The black-haired girl frowned and said, "If you don't want to talk, then all of you stay here! Goodra, Muddy Water! Noivern, Air Slash!"
"Go ahead! Charizard, Flamethrower!" Ryan said.
Charizard, without hesitation, unleashed a blast of fire at the two Pokémon. Goodra sent up a wave of muddy water, blocking Charizard's flames. Noivern didn't attack, but simply looked at Ryan in shock. Then, after calling out to the girl a few times, it bowed before him.
"Huh? What kind of development is this?" Ryan was completely confused.
First they were about to fight, then bowing down in front of him? Had he awakened some legendary aura? But why weren't Ruby and Sapphire bowing down?
While Ryan was still pondering, the girl trembled as she spoke, "You are a human chosen by the Dragon God!"
She immediately knelt down and said, "The descendant of the Draconid people—Zinnia—meets the Envoy! Please allow the Dragon Lord to return!"
Ryan was completely stunned: What on earth is going on?!
