Chapter 167: Orbs Obtained
The scene shifts to Ruby and Sapphire. Ruby easily wins the Contest with Gardevoir. After the Contest, Ruby asks Sapphire, "How do we get to Sootopolis City next?"
"I'm not sure. Let's ask Ryan's Mewtwo. A plane would be too slow, and by the time we get to Sootopolis City, we won't have enough time," Sapphire says.
"Then we'll have to ask Mewtwo first. It's a Legendary Pokémon, after all, and Ryan should have told it how to handle this," Ruby says.
Ruby releases Mewtwo. Seeing the indifferent Mewtwo, Ruby swallows nervously and says, "Hello, Mewtwo. We're Ryan's friends. Do you have any ideas for how to get to the Seafloor Cavern quickly? It's near Sootopolis City, and we need to get there to help Ryan."
Mewtwo glances at Ruby and Sapphire and telepathically replies, "My parent has already told me the details. Master and I teleported to Sootopolis City once before, and I'll try to teleport there."
With that, it begins to gather its psychic powers. Ruby and Sapphire grew curious about the parent Mewtwo was referring to, but perhaps it meant Ryan.
But before they could react, Mewtwo grabbed Ruby and Sapphire and teleported. Ruby and the others felt the scene shift twice before they appeared atop a massive tree. Mewtwo, with a weary expression, telepathically replied, "We've reached Sootopolis City. Next, I'll take you to the Seafloor Cavern, but I won't be able to help you much. Two long-distance teleportations have practically drained my psychic power."
Before Ruby or Sapphire could say anything, Mewtwo grabbed one each and soared into the sky, landing above the sea surface just outside Sootopolis City. Using its remaining psychic power, Mewtwo created a ball of light and, with Ruby and Sapphire, rushed to the bottom of the ocean.
Mewtwo swam with all its might, and soon reached the seabed, but there was no sign of the Seafloor Cavern. Ruby pulled out a signal receiver, checked the direction, and said, "Right."
Mewtwo nodded, quickly leading them to the right. They then discovered a fissure in the seabed, and Mewtwo led them directly into it.
After descending several dozen meters, Mewtwo discovered a cave in the rock face. It immediately rushed in with Ruby and Sapphire, then emerged from the water into a cavern.
Mewtwo released its psychic light ball and said weakly, "It's up to you now. I no longer have the strength to help you."
With that, it entered its Ultra Ball and went silent.
Sapphire surveyed the pitch-black cave, handed Ruby her night vision goggles, and said, "Let's find Team Magma and Team Aqua first. Darkrai, please."
Sapphire released Darkrai, who could operate in the shadows, making him perfect for searching for Team Magma and Team Aqua in this dark cave.
Ruby put on her night vision goggles and looked around. Behind them was a submarine, though not very large. Ruby thought for a moment and said, "It's not big, so they can't bring many people down. Besides, Courtney is on our side, so she should be able to help us in a critical moment."
"I hope so," Sapphire said.
As soon as she finished speaking, the cave began to shake violently. Ruby and Sapphire looked at each other and said, "It looks like they've awakened. We need to speed up."
A moment later, Darkrai returned. He held up two fingers to Ruby and Sapphire, indicating two directions. Ruby said, "Our target is the two orbs. Take us to where the orbs are."
Darkrai nodded and led Ruby and Sapphire forward.
After walking for a distance, Ruby and the others discovered two forks in the road. Darkrai led Ruby and the others to the left passage. Further ahead, Ruby spotted three members of Team Magma lying unconscious on the ground.
"Looks like this is where we're going," Ruby whispered.
"Darkrai, how many people are in there?" Sapphire asked.
Darkrai held up three fingers. Ruby said, "Including Courtney, there are three of them, including Maxie, which means there's another subordinate. Sapphire, you use Darkrai to deal with Maxie, and I'll handle the other one."
"Understood," Sapphire nodded.
Then she ordered Darkrai to lurk in the shadows and move next to Maxie, ready to seize the two orbs.
"Leave it to me now," Ruby said. "Swampert, Greninja, I'm counting on you."
Swampert and Greninja appeared in the now-brightened area. After all, this was Groudon's resting place, so lava was still present. With the help of the lava, they could barely see clearly.
Greninja, carrying its Water Shuriken at its side, calmly walked into Groudon's chamber, followed closely by Swampert.
"Who are you?" Courtney, still alert, immediately spotted Greninja and Swampert.
"Courtney, Tabitha, stop them! Don't let them ruin our plan," Maxie said.
It takes a lot of energy for one person to control two disobedient Legendary Pokémon, and it is easy for the Pokémon to control him in turn. Maxie now has some signs of being controlled by the two beasts, but because the two Pokémon are fighting for the right to control, Maxie has avoided being completely taken over.
"Yes," Courtney and another man named Tabitha said.
Tabitha immediately sent out his Camerupt, and Courtney also casually released her Ninetales. But no one noticed that Courtney quietly stepped back a few steps and moved away from the battlefield.
Greninja's Water Shuriken was slightly revealed, and Night Slash was instantly executed twice.
"Playing tricks, Camerupt, use Flamethrower," Tabitha said.
But Camerupt could not respond to Tabitha's words, and fell directly to the ground, losing the ability to battle.
"What!" Tabitha shouted in surprise.
But the next moment, he stiffly turned to look at Courtney behind him, his expression somewhat grim, and said, "Courtney, what do you mean?!"
"I can't help it. I've already defected from Team Magma," Courtney said, holding a dagger against Tabitha's back. "After all, you all underestimate these Legendary Pokémon. Groudon and Kyogre are not that easy to control. Besides, the two Legendary Pokémon who are now eager to battle can't help me realize my dream at all. So why should I obey you?"
"Courtney, you're asking for death!" Maxie said, holding up two orbs.
"You'd better watch out for yourself," Sapphire said. "Darkrai, do it."
Darkrai emerged from the shadows, pressing a long-prepared Dark Void against Maxie's face. Looking at Maxie's slumber, Darkrai was about to pick up the two orbs, but the next second, Maxie stood upright, and the two orbs gradually began merging into his hands.
Originally, Maxie controlled the two orbs, and his consciousness could barely survive between the two Legendary Pokémon, able to resist the invasion. But now, in his coma, Maxie was clearly unable to resist.
Darkrai curled his lips in disdain; it was no pushover. With a flick of his claws, Maxie's two palms were severed, splashing blood. The two orbs could no longer merge into Maxie's body.
The flying orbs suddenly sensed something and flew directly to Ruby and Sapphire, abruptly merging into their right hands, revealing the emblematic patterns of Groudon and Kyogre on the backs of their hands.
"It looks like it's over," Courtney said, letting Tabitha go. "Tabitha, don't risk your life for Maxie. Wait until you go out and take a look, then make a decision."
She then let go of Tabitha and walked over to Ruby and Sapphire and said, "Ryan sent you here, didn't he? We've got the orbs, what should we do next?"
Ruby said, "Since Ryan trusts you, we'll trust you for now. Let's go to Sootopolis City first, gather Groudon and Kyogre there, and then hand them over to Ryan."
"Okay, let's act right away," Courtney said casually.
