Chapter 242: The Colossal Pokémon
With Ruby and Sapphire's story over, we turn our attention to the two unlucky trainers, Yellow and Silver.
The two had just arrived in this cave world when they were confronted by a large group of Magcargo. Silver, ever the hothead, couldn't resist his impulsiveness and successfully provoked the Magcargo, leading to the much-anticipated chase.
While being chased by the Magcargo, the two wandered through the cave, completely lost. Only after shaking off the Magcargo did they realize they couldn't find their way back.
Yellow said helplessly, "We're lost."
"As if we wouldn't get lost in a place like this! Who knows where we are!" Silver said, rubbing his backside, which had been burned several times. "Ouch, my butt! It's almost cooked!"
"If it's cooked, just chop it off and eat it," Yellow said irritably. "If you hadn't provoked those Magcargo, would we have been chased for so long?"
"Are you a devil?! I'm injured!" Silver shouted.
"Stop arguing, let's figure out the terrain first, otherwise everything we say will be pointless. I didn't bring much food or water, if we don't find those, we'll starve to death," Yellow said. "Ryan is unconscious, I don't know when he'll wake up. Now I'm teamed up with you, you hothead, my luck is really bad."
"Hey, hey. That's too much! I may be a bit...impulsive, but when it comes to combat, I'm still pretty reliable!" Silver said.
"Yeah, I admit it. But you're only reliable in combat, have you ever been reliable at other times?" Yellow said.
Silver was silent, thought for a long time, and then gave an awkward smile. Yellow shook her head, released Blaziken, and used the flames on Blaziken's wrists to illuminate the entire cave. Silver then sent out Mismagius and used Flash, so the entire cave was lit up.
Silver smiled smugly at Yellow, who silently recalled Blaziken: Why bother with fire when there's free lighting?
Walking through the tunnel in the cave, it seemed endless, though the surrounding space was getting larger and larger. Yellow also discovered a group of Hippowdon; she was always interested in Pokémon related to sandstorms. However, now wasn't the time to capture Pokémon; finding a way out of this cave was the priority.
But soon, something that made her somewhat despairing appeared before them. There was no path ahead, only pitch-black emptiness, not even the Flash from Mismagius could illuminate it.
"What's this?" Silver curiously reached out to touch it.
"Are you crazy?!" Yellow yelled, instantly pulling Silver's reckless hand back. Then, she pried a stone from the nearby rock wall and tentatively stretched it forward; the stone disappeared into the darkness.
"See, making a fuss..." Silver was about to say something, but Yellow pulled the stone back; the part that had been probing into the darkness had completely disappeared, the cut as smooth as a mirror.
"Keep stretching your hand out, I promise I won't stop you this time," Yellow said casually, tossing the stone away.
"Uh... thank you," Silver said, scratching his head.
Yellow rolled her eyes and said, "Please think things through in the future. Acting recklessly all the time will get you killed."
She then ignored Silver and sent out Flygon, saying, "Flygon, use Dig."
Flygon nodded and began digging. But after a short while, it was just another pitch-black void. Silver, unconvinced, had Mismagius throw a shimmering orb of light into the black void above. But the orb entered the void without creating a ripple; even the light was completely swallowed up.
Silver had Mismagius use Flash again and then said, "Looks like we're trapped."
"Hmm. But if it doesn't work up there, what about down there? Flygon, dig down," Yellow said.
Flygon immediately started digging downwards. There was no void below, but another tunnel. Yellow and Silver exchanged a glance, then jumped down from the opening and landed in the tunnel below.
As the tunnel was illuminated, Yellow noticed several Crustle not far away. She frowned and said, "Let's keep digging. Although we can't get out, if we keep digging, we'll definitely find some underground rivers or something. Even if we don't, I'll use Flygon to dig until we find water, at least solving the water problem."
Silver nodded and said, "I have some food here. If we eat sparingly, we can last for a month."
"Hopefully," Yellow said.
Yellow then continued to have Flygon dig downwards, and they dug out several more tunnels. Finally, after digging down once more, they slid down the tunnel and found themselves on a patch of plants.
Silver laughed, "Great! There are plants here, so there should be Berries, right? Mismagius, use Flash!"
As Mismagius fired a ball of light, they saw some vegetation in the light, but no Berries as they had expected. However, when they assessed their location, cold sweat poured down their foreheads.
Yellow swallowed hard and said, "Regigigas!"
Indeed, they were on top of Regigigas's head. Regigigas sensed something on its head, then reached out and grabbed the two, bringing them close. Yellow and Silver could now observe Regigigas up close.
Regigigas had a huge white torso without a distinct head. A yellow striped structure ran from back to front along the center of its torso, with seven round holes arranged in the shape of a constellation. Its arms were long, with yellow disc-like structures on its shoulders and wrists, ending in three white fingers. Its legs were relatively short.
Its head, waist, back, and limbs were covered with black, zigzag patterns, while green moss covered the sides of its head and feet. Three pairs of eye-like dots, red, blue, and gray from top to bottom, flanked its torso, possibly representing Regirock, Regice, and Registeel.
"Y-you...hello...hello," Yellow said, her voice trembling slightly.
Regigigas: "Well, you're humans. It's been a long time since I've seen humans. How many years? Four hundred or six hundred? Hmm, it's been too long; I can't remember. Humans, how did you get here?"
Regigigas's telepathic voice, like its Slow Start ability, was infuriatingly slow. After finally getting it to finish speaking, Silver asked, "Are you really Regigigas? Why are you here? And where is this place? How can we get out? Do you have any companions here? And..."
Yellow quickly covered Silver's mouth, saying, "You talk too much. Regigigas, I just want to know, what exactly are those dark voids?"
Regigigas: "Ah. Those things... If we're talking about those things, it's a very, very, very long story."
Silver: ...
Yellow: ... Please summarize it simply and clearly; we don't want a long story!
