Chapter 257: Capturing Xerneas
Xerneas lowered its head, its antlers glowing green, and charged towards White Kyurem.
Ryan chuckled: Although it's called White Kyurem, it's controlled by Reshiram! Fire-type moves are its forte!
White Kyurem opened its mouth and spewed out a huge fireball surrounded by two fire rings. The fireball crashed into Xerneas at an extremely high speed, and upon colliding with Xerneas's antlers, a violent explosion occurred, blasting Xerneas away and causing it to crash heavily to the ground.
Reshiram frowned and made a few sounds at Mewtwo. Mewtwo then asked the others, "Why can his White Kyurem use Fusion Flare? Isn't that Reshiram's signature move? Since Reshiram was absorbed by Kyurem, it should logically have merged with Kyurem's Freeze Shock to form a new move. Why can it still use Fusion Flare?"
Ruby shook his head and said, "That's a Kyurem that has lost consciousness in another dimension. It wasn't Kyurem that absorbed Reshiram, but rather Ryan's Reshiram that absorbed Kyurem!"
Reshiram and Zekrom exchanged a glance: Is this even possible?
"You guys need to be careful. Ryan still has a Kyurem; it can still absorb you," Sapphire laughed, giving the two dragons a warning.
Sure enough, upon hearing Sapphire's words, the two dragons trembled: their strength had declined significantly, and if they really fought Kyurem, they might actually be absorbed.
However, Ryan no longer had the energy to pay attention to that. Xerneas had already stood up. Healing moves instantly restored its health and healed its burns. Fully healed, Xerneas unleashed another Moonblast at White Kyurem.
White Kyurem countered with Freeze Shock, shattering the Moonblast while also inflicting some damage on Xerneas.
"Imprison," Ryan said.
White Kyurem assumed a stance, and instantly a beam of light shot into Xerneas's body. Xerneas opened its mouth to use Hyper Beam, but it was instantly extinguished. Xerneas gave Ryan a second look: he had actually predicted its move and instantly blocked its attack; quite impressive.
However, it wasn't without moves; it just couldn't use the move that overlapped with White Kyurem's. The light on Xerneas's antlers lit up, but then instantly went out—the move had failed!
Meanwhile, Kyurem's Freeze Shock had already struck Xerneas directly. Without Moonblast to block its attack, the full force of the Freeze Shock erupted on Xerneas, freezing it instantly. The flames within the ice also burned Xerneas.
Ryan couldn't miss such a good opportunity. A massive Flash Cannon struck the immobilized Xerneas, blasting it away.
Steel-type moves were super effective against Xerneas! Unfortunately, they didn't completely knock it out in one hit. Xerneas, freed from the ice, used healing moves to fully restore its health.
Ryan was a bit troubled: with this level of healing, without continuous attacks, he simply couldn't defeat Xerneas.
Xerneas was also somewhat troubled: this White Kyurem had learned far too many moves! Several of them were unusable!
Ryan analyzed the situation; if this continued, he was highly likely to be worn down by Xerneas!
"I can only use that strategy," Ryan murmured, then commanded White Kyurem to engage in close combat. After all, a ranged battle would make it too easy for Xerneas to find an opportunity to fully recover; only high-frequency close-quarters combat could prevent Xerneas from having time to heal!
Following Ryan's instructions, a fire blade ignited on the left side of White Kyurem's arms, while an ice blade condensed on the right. The blades alternated, and the heat-generating organ at its tail turned red, shooting rapidly towards Xerneas. The blades swung out, striking Xerneas repeatedly.
Xerneas groaned in pain, then stomped the ground, creating a Misty Terrain. Its horn blocked the combo of White Kyurem, while lunar energy coalesced and slammed into White Kyurem with Moonblast, blasting it away.
White Kyurem stabilized itself in mid-air, its tail's heat-generating organs blazing fiercely. This sudden acceleration caused it to temporarily disappear from everyone's sight.
The next moment, White Kyurem charged at Xerneas again, its twin blades slashing heavily into it. Xerneas screamed in pain this time, simultaneously unleashing Gravity that slammed White Kyurem into the ground. The immense gravity momentarily overwhelmed White Kyurem, and Xerneas's Moonblast blasted it away once more.
Ryan laughed: "It took the bait!"
The blasted-away White Kyurem vanished instantly, followed by Xerneas being slammed away by its double strike. The moment it was sent flying, Xerneas knew something was wrong!
White Kyurem hadn't been affected by gravity at all; everything before was just a Substitute. Now, White Kyurem's full power struck Xerneas heavily, instantly leaving it with very low health. White Kyurem's ice and fire blades had already slashed through Xerneas in an instant, and then, unable to withstand such a draining attack, White Kyurem collapsed. Before it fell, Xerneas was also knocked down by this final strike, losing its ability to battle!
"Go, Master Ball!" Ryan threw out the Master Ball without hesitation.
The Master Ball hit Xerneas, absorbing it. After landing on the ground, it wobbled twice and then remained still. Ryan walked over, picked up the Master Ball, and smiled.
Releasing Xerneas, Ryan used medicine to heal Xerneas and Kyurem. They now had thirteen Master Balls left, more than enough!
Lillie and the others came over to congratulate him. Yellow said somewhat enviously, "Congratulations, Ryan, you've caught another powerful Pokémon."
Ryan smiled but didn't reply. He knew this wasn't the time to celebrate; after all, Necrozma was a Creator God-level Pokémon, and they were no match for it now, let alone that terrifying being!
Next was the matter of transferring the Pokémon, but there weren't any major problems. However, Ryan noticed that Reshiram and Zekrom looked at him with a hint of wariness.
Ryan scratched his head, puzzled.
