I had returned far sooner than anyone expected. Yet witnessing Lem forced to his knees before this gathering of warriors, I understood my obligation to be here. If Daisy, Caesar, or Ginny had appeared instead, they would face accusations of being rogues themselves, and chaos would consume everything.

This burden fell to me alone.

My gaze burned into Logan, whose face registered pure astonishment. I found myself questioning what cruel intentions he harbored toward Lem. His features remained an impenetrable mask, suspended between disbelief and emotions I refused to acknowledge. Reading him had always proven impossible, but clarity wasn't necessary now. I simply needed him to retreat from Lem.

Lem shook violently on his knees, restrained and vulnerable, yet clinging to whatever remnants of pride remained. His sightless eyes gazed beyond the crowd, but waves of silent anguish emanated from his form. No one else would defend him. That responsibility belonged to me.
