Chapter 9 - Chapter 7: A Familiar face

The explosion of DT sent the vehicle's door flying off its hinges. Ava hopped out, bolting as soon as she heard the guard. "Hey! HEY STOP!" Ava felt the familiar burn in her joints as she ran through the crowd. Why did she have to run every day?!

"STOP THAT HUMAN!" The guard shouted, struggling to get past the crowds of Yokai.

A Yokai with tentacles and eyes all over moved in front of Ava. "Eeeeewww! Why are there so many gooey- sticky- WHY IS EVERYTHING WEIRD HERE?!" Ava staggered back a few steps. "Sorry for this!" She threw her sword at one of the eyes, the hilt hitting it. The Yokai screeched, covering the eye in pain. Ava backed up more to get a running head start, jumping from tentacle to tentacle, slipping on the last one. Struggling to regain her footing with the slime on her feet, Ava stumbled forward. She ducked as the Yokai swung another tentacle to swat at her. She summoned her shield just before the tentacle swung backwards, being thrown a few feet.

"AGH, SCREW IT!" Ava took off her shoes as the guards closed in, throwing the shoes at them. She continued running, her feet finally being able to gain traction, free of the slime on her shoes. As Ava ran (in her socks), skidding around a corner. It was a dead end. Of course it was a dead end. What, was her life being written by an immature teenager with no concept of story pacing?!

Ava slowly turned around with a sigh as the guard caught up behind her, two others by his side. The initial guard, a lion humanoid with wings, the second was a humanoid bird Yokai, and the third was some kind of goo human, who was currently speaking on his radio for backup. "We're doing this. Listen, I don't want to hurt you." Ava slowly put her hands up, trying to show good intentions. "But where I come from, killing someone is only okay if they attack you first. So choose your next actions very carefully."

The guards drew their weapons, the Lion guard's sword crackling with electricity. Great. She needed to deal with this again. "Why don't you all have electric swords?" Ava asked curiously.

"They are given to the guards with the least combat skill to ensure they can at least stay alive while fighting." The bird answered.

The lion Yokai protested. "W-NO! Th-they're given to the highest ranks!" He so very clearly lied.

"Sure bud. Alright, let's do this." Ava raised her sword, bracing herself. The goo Yokai lunged, swinging his Katanna. Ava tried to parry, however as she pushed back against the sword, the Yokai's body burst, covering her. Ava dropped her sword in surprise. "EW! EW EW EW EWWW! WHY IS EVERYTHING DISGUSTING?!"

Ava staggered back as the goo moved up, forming back into the Yokai right behind her. He put Ava in a chokehold, kicking at her legs. Ava's knees buckled, causing her to fall onto them. The other guards approached, readying handcuffs and more chains. Ava twisted her body, catching the Goo Yokai off guard. The Yokai turned back into an Amorphous shape. Ava fell through him, her back hitting the ground. She rolled over on her side as the bird Yokai brought his war axe, the blade planting itself in the ground from the force.

"Overkill much?" Ava commented, getting back to her feet. She summoned her sword back to her hand, turning it so the sharp side was facing away from her. Behind her the Goo Yokai reformed, grabbing his Katana. She quickly extended her leg, launching herself at the bird Yokai. She twirled for momentum (And special effect), hitting his head with her sword's hilt. The Yokai yelped in pain, staggering back. Ava spotted the crackle of electricity in the corner of her eye. She barely summoned her shield in time, feeling the shocks running through her body, and her soul felt as if it were on fire. Her shield wasn't entirely resistant to electricity. It could only absorb at least 60% of the blow. Her shield was bound to her soul. Anything it absorbed was rerouted to it. Ava clutched her chest, crying out in pain.

The goo Yokai took advantage of her pain, bodyslamming her into a wall. Ava struggled to get up, seeing the Lion Yokai charging up his sword once more. She staggered to get out of the way as she heard the familiar crackle of lightning. She needed to get out of the way. SHE NEEDED TO GET OUT OF THE- BAM!

Ava collapsed onto the ground. She had been hit. Not a graze on the arm like before. Not stopped by her shield. She writhed and spasmed, screaming out in pure, unbridled pain. Fire shot through her veins, her muscles cramping and constricting as tears burned down her cheeks, which somehow made it hurt more. Ava wasn't sure when she passed out. All she could remember was the pain, the burning pain.

"She gave one guard a concussion… Some kind of mystic power…" Ava's ears were ringing as she slowly sat up, hearing the distant voice. She could only make out a few works. What… What happened again? Were they talking about her? She was in the snail… right, she was running. And she fought with the guards.

Ava's memory slowly dripped back to her, the voice getting closer. "She put up quite a fight too. Wonder if she's part of the human army." The voice got closer. Ava took in her surroundings. A jail cell. Great. Wonderful. Ava stood up, her chains weighing her down. They had really gone all out with them. And by that, she meant they had only put on 2 extra sets. The handcuffs dug into her wrists. Ava had new shackles, ones that only attached her ankles together. She grabbed the wall to steady herself, her muscles protesting against her movement. She walked over to the back wall, trying to look out the barred window.

"Guys? What's wrong?" Ava's blood ran cold. That voice… It was rougher, a tad deeper and tired, but… Ava slowly turned, seeing three of the turtles, as Leo came into view of her cell. He was dressed in some kind of kingly robes, his head adorned with a large piece of ruby.

"...Leo, are you roleplaying again?" Ava asked.
