Chapter 23 - 23 (Racing for Glory: Speed, Ego, and Forbidden Desire)

After Yin He finished cursing in frustration, he glanced at the steep fourth turn ahead and reluctantly hit the brakes!

He also wanted to be bold like Xiao Chen—speeding through without slowing down and executing a stylish drift—but he simply didn't have the courage to attempt it.

Though he loved racing and chasing thrills, he didn't want to flirt with danger. After all, he only had one life and preferred to be cautious.

Distracted by these thoughts, his car nearly crashed into the fourth turn. A cold sweat broke out across his forehead as he narrowly avoided disaster. Once he made it past the curve, his composure crumbled—he froze in shock. The Maserati… was gone.

At the base of the mountain, the group of young men casually leaning against luxury cars suddenly straightened up. Their eyes fixed on the black blur speeding along the Jiulong Pan road… It looked like a bolt of dark lightning, tearing through the air at incredible speed.

"Damn it! This kid's a pro!"

"He's not a pro—why else would he challenge Lao Yin? He's just pretending to be someone he's not!"

"Why does his speed look even faster than Yin's cousin's? Did anyone check the time? Maybe he's breaking records!"

"Brother Yin's finished! He's heading for a psychological breakdown!"

For a moment they were stunned—but soon they burst into chatter, some shocked, some furious, others gleeful.

Inside the Maserati, Su Xiaomeng's face turned pale. But compared to earlier fear, she now seemed more accustomed to the danger, even excited. Was this what extreme speed felt like?

The violent thrust from the car's acceleration made her feel like she was flying. The curves sent adrenaline surging through her, making her heart pound with excitement.

Every time the co-pilot screamed, Xiao Chen would glance at Su Xiaomeng from the corner of his eye, barely suppressing his frustration. "Does this girl think she's on a roller coaster?" he muttered. And Chi Guoguo's expression… it was even more baffling.

Originally, Xiao Chen intended to scare Su Xiaomeng, warning her not to race recklessly again—it was dangerous, after all. But now it seemed he was only encouraging her!

"Damn it, let's push it again!" Xiao Chen growled to himself, stamping the accelerator. The speedometer needle quivered before shooting to its peak.

"What—!!"

Su Xiaomeng's eyes widened as the rock wall loomed closer. She let out a piercing scream, her body tensed and clung tightly to the seat, as if about to crash.

Just as the Maserati was about to collide with the wall, Xiao Chen slammed the brakes. The car jolted, shook a few times, then sliced through the ninth curve at a strange angle—barely five centimeters from disaster!

Whew!

Even Xiao Chen exhaled deeply. It was his first time driving the Jiulong Pan—he relied entirely on sharp instincts and careful judgment. One misstep could have led to a crash.

Su Xiaomeng, paralyzed with fear, gasped for air. She had been inches from death, about to say goodbye to the world—and to her dear sister.

By the time she regained her senses, the Maserati had already reached the mountain's summit. Xiao Chen flashed the high beams, then turned and began racing back downhill.

"You… you went crazy!" she shouted, clenching her fists at him.

"Hehe, are you scared?" Xiao Chen grinned. Scaring her would be worth it.

Before Su Xiaomeng could respond, she saw Yin He's BMW M5 racing toward them. Through the windshield, she caught sight of his dark expression—her mood instantly lifted.

As the cars sped past each other, she rolled down the window, stuck her fair hand out, and raised her middle finger at Yin He with a playful smirk.

The screech of brakes filled the air as the BMW came to a stop. Yin He turned to glare at the Maserati disappearing into the distance, face twisted in fury.

After a moment's thought, he reversed the car and drove back downhill. He had already lost—it was pointless to chase them further.

The two cars returned from the mountain, drawing a crowd of young men.

"You lost, Yin He!" Su Xiaomeng boasted as she stepped out of the car.

"I admit it… but that last bet doesn't count!" Yin He growled, teeth clenched in frustration.

"The bet was that you wouldn't bother me anymore!"

"What's wrong with liking someone? Didn't you break the agreement before?"

Su Xiaomeng hesitated, unsure how to respond—she knew she had acted a bit unfairly earlier.

"It's okay to like someone," Xiao Chen intervened, stepping out of the car, "but don't harass her… she already has a boyfriend."

"What did you say?!" one of the young men bellowed, brandishing an iron rod as thick as his thumb at Xiao Chen.

Frowning, Xiao Chen reached out, snatched the rod, and with both hands twisted it hard before the others could react.

The stunned youth froze, speechless.

"My girlfriend once said I have a short temper," Xiao Chen growled. "I don't want to fight kids, but don't push me too far…" He twisted the rod further until it crumpled completely. "This is how far it goes!"

Yin He and the others were shocked—how much strength did this kid have to bend iron like that?

"Xiaomeng, get in the car. Let's go!" Xiao Chen barked, tossing the rod aside.

Rarely did Su Xiaomeng resist him, so she nodded and climbed back in.

Seeing the Maserati drive off, Yin He and his gang snapped back to reality. Their eyes locked on the bent rod lying in the dust, and cold sweat broke out across their backs.

"Is this guy even human?" one whispered.

"It's nothing—my bodyguards could do the same!" Yin He gritted his teeth, embarrassed by the shock he had just felt. But deep down, he was grateful he hadn't provoked the kid—otherwise, they'd have been utterly defeated.

"Old Yin, what now? Giving up on Su Xiaomeng?" a tall, thin friend asked.

"Giving up? Hmph! I, Yin He, will get what I want!" he growled, eyes narrowed. "Su Xiaomeng—I'm coming for you!"

"Don't force it, Old Yin! Su Xiaomeng's no pushover! Er Niang Su's reputation isn't fake!"

"She may be a girl, but that doesn't mean she can't be conquered!" Yin He snorted. "Lao Li, find out who that kid is! How dare he follow me and steal a girl—I'll make him regret it!"

"Consider it done!"

"Old Yin, if you just want to hook up with Su Xiaomeng, I have an idea—wanna hear it?"

"What?"

"Drug her… then she'll beg you to have her!"

"Damn, you're a fake Er Niang Su! If you drug her, you'll be in deep trouble!" another friend warned.

"No matter how much you mess around in school, it's only that—you're counting on looks and followers! If you really go after her, what can she do? Can her followers fight for her?"

"Well, that's true…"

Listening to his friends, Yin He smirked inside. If she were really that easy, he'd have done it long ago! Why bother looking at her face? But the Su family backing her wasn't something to mess with lightly!
