The kiss never came.
At the last second, Alexander pulled back, his eyes dark with barely restrained hunger and something else—determination. His hand remained tangled in Emily's hair, possessive and claiming, but his jaw was set with the kind of control that spoke of immense willpower.
"Not like this," he said, his voice rough. "Not when you're still doubting me. When I take you, Emily, you'll have no questions left. No doubts. No escape."
The promise in his words sent shivers down her spine that had nothing to do with fear.
He released her and leaned back, though he kept one hand on her waist as if he couldn't quite let go completely. Through the tinted windows, Emily watched Hong Kong blur past as they drove through the city. But they weren't heading toward any of Alexander's known properties—not his hotel, not Uncle Li's safe house.
"Where are we going?" she asked, her voice still shaky from their confrontation.
