Chapter 5 - The Vigilantes

Nashw, dazzled: What absurd power!

Kayha: Let's get straight to the point... Do you want to join us?

Brodka, laughing: That's being direct, hahaha.

Nashw, without even thinking: YES!

Zo: What? Why would we join?

Kayha: There's no good reason, you just seem useful. I've been following you since you left the village. One of the guards warned us—

Zo interrupting: Who are you? Why did you stay behind us?

Braxie: How ungrateful... You'd be dead if it weren't for us.

Brodka: Ah... What's that for, Braxie?

It seems the alcohol wore off when Braxie spoke, as if it had made him sad.

Kayha: Quiet, I owe you an explanation, so let me explain... We're a group of people who work to prevent freaks from invading the villages.

Huna: So that's why we've never been attacked, not even once, in 10 years?! You guys are our heroes?!?

Kayha, embarrassed: Not me specifically, I joined about 2 years ago.

Zo: So there are more of you?

Braxie: About 50 spread across the world—

Nashw interrupting: WORLD? SO THE REST OF THE WORLD IS AFFECTED TOO?

Brodka: That's why I wish I'd died, there's no hope...

Huna tugs at Braxie's cloak: What happened to him?

Braxie: Don't worry, the drink wore off, he gets depressed without it.

Kayha: Continuing, yes... Apparently the whole world is like this after the Great Impact: very cold, sometimes so foggy you can barely see, some countries are just snow, the world seems to be dying. But we, the Vigilantes, are trying to do something to change everything, so I agreed to join.

Zo: I'm listening...

Kayha: The creator of the Vigilantes believes that if we kill all the freaks, we can end all this and return the world to the way it was. I want to believe that too, so I'm using my powers for that.

Excited Huna: To the old world?!!

Braxie: That would be amazing, wouldn't it?

Extremely happy Huna: YES!!!! Even though I don't remember anything, just not living in fear would be perfect.

Zanny: I'm pretty sure it wouldn't change anything...

Nashw yelling: QUIET!

Everyone looked scared, not understanding anything, only Zo started laughing.

Zo laughing: I already know what it was...

Scared Braxie: D-Did I say something I shouldn't have?

Nashw: Sorry, it was Zanny.

The three Vigilantes looked around, trying to figure out who Zanny was.

Zo: There's no point wasting time, you won't see anyone.

Brodka: Has the drink really worn off?

Huna laughing: It's a ghost friend of my little brother's, haha.

Braxie was startled, Kayha was surprised and liked what he heard, but Brodka didn't care.

Braxie: It's a joke, right?

Zo: Don't waste time with this—

Nashw interrupting: No, this time I need to tell you what he said. He said killing all the freaks won't help.

Everyone there was surprised.

Kayha: Does he have a better idea?

Zo whispering to Braxie and Huna: Is he really taking him seriously?

Braxie: He never rules out any possibility... Uh... b-ubut there's no ghost, right?

Nashw: He's dancing next to you, looking at you.

Braxie was so scared that she ran up the tree.

Kayha: Anyway, why does he think it won't work?

Zanny: They're not the only problem.

After saying this, Zanny disappears.

Nashw: Uh... He disappeared again, but he said the problem isn't just the freaks.

Kayha: Interesting. If he knows anything for sure, it would be very helpful. Please join us, I haven't finished telling you what we're doing.

Zo: So, tell me...

Kayha: We're here to recruit people to leave the country. We're going to Pulanio.

Zo: How are you going to get there?

Kayha: We were given a boat; it's west of your village.

Zo: And why are you going there?

Impatient Nashw: Oh, how boring, Zo, let's go, let's go, they're much stronger, we're safer with them, and we can greatly improve our abilities.

Kayha: I'll explain why, no problem. Apparently, there are certain weapons or accessories, artifacts, with powers—

Zo didn't even want to hear Kayha finish: We're going...

Kayha: Okay, I wasn't expecting that.

Both Huna and Nashw seemed surprised to hear about the existence of items with powers, but to Zo, it seemed completely normal, despite being excited by the idea.

Nashw: WOW!

Huna: That way, Zo could be even stronger.

Kayha: We don't know why. Whether it was energy from the Great Impact, or whether they're "marked" objects like us, but some of us have already managed to—

Zo: Managed what?

Kayha: So far, only some kind of boomerang that causes absurdly strong winds.

Zo: Great, then let's go to Pulanio, count on us.

Nashw: Wait, if we're going to leave here, I want to say goodbye to Yori.

Kayha: Oh sure, let's go back to the village and rest there for a few days, then we'll leave. I'll let the creator know.

Nashw: How?

Kayha: Like this.

*Kayha takes a cell phone out of his pocket*

Zo: I thought they didn't work anymore.

Kayha: They don't, this is a spiritual cell phone. One of our people stays close to the creator 24/7 so that if he needs to warn or report something, he can create devices so we can talk.

Nashw: Is his mark power creating cell phones?

Kayha: Communication in general? Yes...

Everyone laughed and walked to the village, a long journey.

Braxie shouted from the top of the tree: HEY, WHERE ARE YOU GOING? HAS THE GHOST LEFT HERE ALREADY?

Brodka: COME HERE, WE'RE GOING TO THE VILLAGE.

*Braxie was already at their side*

Zo: The speed is still up to date.

Braxie: Certain things from the old world still work.

They both laughed as they all walked to the village.
