Chapter 49 - Chapter 49: Damage Absorption

After a little over an hour—

Yukinoshita Haruno looked at Hayashi Maki, who was still full of energy, and quickly shook her head.

"No more!"

"Onee-san can't take it, Maki-kun… I give up! I give up… sob…"

Hayashi Maki, pleased with himself, pulled her into his arms and stopped "bullying" her.

Haruno leaned against him, her pale arms naturally circling his neck. A tempting blush colored her pretty face. Her hair, damp with sweat and sticking to her cheeks and forehead, somehow made her beauty even more striking.

Yukinoshita Yukino had a face so cute it felt unfair; as the older sister, Haruno was no less—if anything, even more beautiful. And in terms of figure, at this time Yukino was still called "Flat-no," so she was "instantly outclassed" by Haruno.

After resting for a bit, Haruno poked Hayashi Maki's chest with a finger. "Why are you so experienced?"

"Ahem! Well… men are born with it—it's instinct."

"Oh? You sure it's not because you already have a girlfriend?" Haruno said in a low voice, eyeing him like she wanted to bite him again.

She wanted to leave her bite mark, then stir up trouble between him and his girlfriend—ideally driving the girlfriend away so he'd be hers alone.

Since a pact had been made and she'd given herself to him—and she could faintly feel a strange connection—Haruno chose not to agonize over it.

She'd accept her fate. Still, accepting fate didn't mean accepting a philandering boyfriend. She even nursed a new ambition: to completely captivate this man so he'd love her alone.

Faced with her insinuations, Hayashi Maki said nothing, only let his gaze heat up; his hand slid along her smooth, slender calf.

Haruno's schemes vanished in an instant. Looking at him with watery eyes, she whispered, "Are you still going to bully me?"

"Hmph. You look like you're asking for it."

"W-why do you look at me like that? I'm already yours—what can I do?"

She laid her head on his chest and cried—unclear if the tears were real or staged. Compared to Yukino, Haruno was a bit of a drama queen. Even so, Hayashi Maki softened.

He patted her head. "Okay, okay—don't cry. I'll stop and let you rest."

A few soothing words later, Haruno calmed down—then let a tiny, triumphant smile slip. She'd learned something useful: this man fell for cutesy pleading and wasn't great with girls' tears.

Still, she truly felt wronged—it had all happened so fast, especially when she'd never even been in a relationship.

After a short rest, Haruno nudged him. "I'm fine now. Shouldn't we get to business?"

Hayashi Maki knew she meant treating Yukino. "No rush—let's get you a shower first. You don't want Yukino to see you all sweaty, right?"

"Mm… true."

She didn't argue, letting him lift her by the waist and carry her into the bathroom.

This apartment had been prepared to celebrate Yukino entering high school—a step toward independence against their mother's wishes. Haruno hadn't expected to lose her first time here.

Wait—he'd just called her sister by her given name. Wasn't that too familiar? Was he actually after Yukino as well? Haruno eyed Hayashi Maki's handsome face, feeling even more conflicted.

After showering and changing, Haruno called the driver. She and Hayashi Maki got in the car and headed for the hospital.

Hayashi Maki pulled up his "demon growth" panel:

[Demon]

Player: Hayashi Maki

Familiar 1: Shiina Mahiru (grants Super Regeneration)

Familiar 2: Yukinoshita Haruno (grants Damage Absorption)

Abilities: Super Regeneration, Damage Absorption, Magician (Hellfire, Flames of Judgment, Magic Form), Demon's Wish-Hearing

The interface was simple, but it meant he'd gotten stronger again. He tapped Haruno's ability to read the details:

[Damage Absorption: The player can absorb any harm on a target's body—including diseases—and store it. The harm can be consumed by the player's Super Regeneration or transferred to another target.]

Hayashi Maki's eyes lit up. A familiar's ability reflected that familiar's strongest wish. Haruno desperately wanted her sister healthy—even wished she could bear Yukino's injuries herself—so he'd gained an ability to absorb and transfer harm.

"Nice. Perfect for a cautious demon like me. If I'm attacked, I can transfer the damage back and make them suffer—then heal myself with Super Regeneration. And this is perfect for treating Yukinoshita Yukino: I can absorb the injuries that made her a vegetative patient and—if someone ticks me off—dump them on that person later."
